Barbara Ann (Alsbaugh) Rex, 71, of Seneca, entered into Heaven having lived a life faithful to her Lord on Saturday afternoon, June 14, 2014, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, surrounded by loving family.
She was born April 4, 1943 in Oil City to the late Ray Charles and Helen Lee (Dolan) Alsbaugh.
She attended Oil City Schools.
In her earlier years when her children were young, Barb was active as a girl scout leader, den-mother, softball coach, and Bible school teacher.
She was an active member of the Seneca Evangelical Congregational Church, where she taught Sunday school class for the toddlers and pre-school children.
Mrs. Rex attended the Women’s Christian Fellowship Group that met at Cross Creek Resort, was a member of the Victory Heights LoCal Gals, and the Franklin Y.M.C.A.
She enjoyed crafts, baking specialty birthday cakes, and caring for her family as well as others. Barb especially loved children. She attended all of her grandchildren’s events and activities, and was a loyal Cranberry ‘Berry’ fan.
Barb worked for the Cranberry School District and retired as head cook at Pinoak Elementary School when her first grandson was born so that she could baby-sit.
She was married in Oil City on April 23, 1960 to Clifford Allen Rex, and he survives.
Also surviving are two children: Melanie Rex Rimer of Seneca and Jeffrey Rex and his wife Holly Ann (Saylor), also of Seneca; four grandchildren, Rachel Rimer, and Ty, Austin, and Talon Rex; two sisters, Linda Alsbaugh Clark Osgood of Cranberry and Darlene Alsbaugh Moon of Seneca. Also surviving are sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Shirley Alsbaugh Rex, Carolyn Alsbaugh Renniger, and Robert, Ronald, and William Alsbaugh.
Friends will be received Tuesday (June 17th) from 4-8 p.m. and on Wednesday (June 18) from 10-11 a.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc. , 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Janor Bestwick, pastor of the Seneca E.C. Church, officiating.
Interment will follow in Brandon Cemetery, Cranberry.
Barb’s prayer is for all whose lives she touched to love God and each other. She was witnessing to others, even to her very last breath.
