Janet Irene Johnson, 96, of 187 S. Main St. Seneca, PA. died at 2:00 P.M. Monday August 5, 2013 at Oakwood Heights in Oil City after an extended illness.
Born July 11, 1917 in Oil City, PA. , she was the daughter of the late John & Bertha Bell Hess.
A homemaker, Janet was an avid reader, and enjoyed playing the organ.
She was a member of the YWCA Gallivanters and enjoyed exercising at the YMCA Pool.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Oil City and the Truth Circle as well as a member of the Bell Choir.
Mrs. Johnson had also belonged to the Belles Lettres Club, and the Salvation Army Auxillary.
She had worked many years at Oilwell Supply and for Quaker State.
Janet was married to J. Gail DePew and later married James Johnson and he preceded her in death on March 17, 1985.
Janet is survived by two daughters, Jean Amon & her husband William of Oil City and Carol Anderson & her husband Gerald of Seneca; 3 step daughters, Lucille Keith of TX, Mary Lou Sloan of Dempseytown & FL, and Wilda Yard of OK; 6 grandchildren, Michael Amon, Jacuqeline Kennemuth, Kenneth Amon, Pamela Ruth, Jodi Anderson and Cori Sharpe; 11 great grandchildren , 3 Great Great Grandchildren and 8 step grandchildren
She is also survived by 1 sister, Ruth Hanna of Oil City.
She was preceded in death by a son, David DePew; 4 brothers Roy, Raplh, Carl and Clarence Hess; and 2 sisters, Ella Gotham and Mabel Berlin.
Friends will be received from 10-11:00 A.M. on Friday in the Reinsel Funeral Home
Funeral Services will then be held at 11 A.M. in the Reinsel Funeral Home with Rev. Ronee Christy, Pastor, of the First Presbyterian Church in Oil City Presiding.
Interment will be in Brandon Cemetery.
