Pauline O. Shaffer, 96, of Cranberry, died at 5:20 am Friday, August 23, 2013, at The Caring Place in Franklin.
Born August 5, 1917 in Rockland, she was a daughter of the late William Orrin and Amanda Hefner O’Neil.
Pauline was a 1935 graduate of Oil City High School.
She was a homemaker all of her life and enjoyed caring for her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Pauline was known for her delicious cooking and loved gardening and canning.
She was an avid bowler and a charter member of the Allegheny Sounds Chorus of Sweet Adelines.
Pauline was the person to call when you needed someone to listen and always had profound words of wisdom.
On January 9, 1939 she was married to Shurl S. Shaffer, who preceded her in death on July 18, 2001.
Surviving are two daughters, Carol Sheatz of Seneca and Nancy Schiffer and husband Gene of Erie; four grandchildren, Ben Schiffer and wife Juanita of Glendale AZ, Lisa Straub and husband John of Pleasantville, Jason Schiffer and wife Candace of Erie, and Chad Sheatz and wife Jenny of Cranberry; and 10 great grandchildren, Kelsi and Sidney Straub, Brooke Sheatz, Alice, Wyatt and Anthony Schiffer, Gage Schiffer, Elizabeth Horn and Connor and Adalyn Sheatz.
Also surviving are 3 sisters-in-law, Claribel (Peg) O’Neil, Eleanor O’Neil and Sally O’Neil; a granddaughter-in-law, Carla Sheatz; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Pauline was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Shaffer and Edward Shaffer; a grandson, Brad Sheatz; a son-in-law, Dean Sheatz; 5 brothers, Glen O’Neil, Howard O’Neil, Harold O’Neil, Richard O’Neil and Dale O’Neil; and two sisters, Jene Vivian O’Neil and Eva Hefferman.
Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.
Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 am Tuesday with the Rev. Clara Kohlmeyer, officiating.
Interment will be in Brandon Cemetery.
Pauline’s family would like to thank her caring neighbors, the staff at The Caring Place, the staff at UPMC Northwest, VNA Hospice, And Dr Fell, Dr Beals and Dr Rossino for the wonderful help and support.
