Betty Jane Truitt, 87, of New Bethlehem, died Wednesday August 28, 2013, at her residence.
Born June 28, 1926, in Deanville Armstrong Co she was the daughter of Floyd and Marvelle (Chestnut) Drayer. Betty married Ralph Howden Truitt on November 16, 1946, they were married for 66 years, he preceded her in death on December 9, 2012.
She had worked at Sylvania and then became a homemaker. She loved to clean and bake. She enjoyed camping and spending time with her family and friends. When she was able she attended Distant Baptist Church. Pastor Lyle Westover then made trips to her home to visit the family.
Although gram didn’t have any children of her own, she acted as a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and even great grandmother for the last 34 years to Terry and Deb Rupp, Mindi and Judd Gruver, and Nicki and Ben Brinker, Austin and Ethan Ammerman, Cole McHenry, Avery Brinker, and Cheyleigh Gruver.
She was survived by four sisters, Ella Girst of North Carolina, Donna Mogle of Blawnox, Lois Drayer of Indiana, and Vicki Jones of Blairsville, and one brother Bernard Drayer of Brookville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralph Howden Truitt, and two sisters, Josephine Dolby and Ruthie Rowley.
Visitation will be on Saturday August 31, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn, funeral services will held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday September 1, 2013 at the funeral home with Pastor Lyle Westover officiating. Interment will be in the Kellersburg Methodist Cemetery.
