Betty J. (Peaches) Billig, 90, of Centerville, died peacefully at 11:45 p.m. on her
90th birthday, Monday, Sept 9, 2013, at Titusville Area Hospital where she was
admitted five days prior.
Betty was born September 9, 1923 in Titusville a daughter of the late Sherman F.
Vroman and Nina Litzinger Vroman. She graduated from Titusville High School in
1942.
She first married Joseph Holley in 1945 in Titusville. Mr. Holley died March
1984. Betty later married Thomas W. Billig July 18, 1959 in Titusville. Mr.
Billig died April 2, 1989.
Betty was formerly employed with W.T. Grant Co for 25 years as a sales clerk.
She and Mr. Billig owned and operated Billig’s Orchard and Greenhouse in
Centerville for over 15 years.
She was a former member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. Betty was a
member of VFW Post 5958 Auxiliary, American Legion Post 368 Auxiliary and PNA
Group 2031.
Betty enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking, candy making with her specialty peanut
brittle, reading, bowling, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include her son James F. (Pie) Holley of Titusville; three grandsons,
Joseph W. Leithead, Jr. of Centerville, James M. Holley and his wife Kara of
McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey and Bruce Boor and his wife Margie of
Norwich, Connecticut; a granddaughter Jessica Huth of Oil City; nine
great-grandchildren, Alyssa Leithead, Zach Boor, Nitalie Boor, Bryce Boor,
Jackson Boor, Dewey Holley, Samson Holley, Chrystal Gilson and Joseph Reed; and
numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter Barbara Leithead, two great-grandsons
who died at birth, a sister Marjorie Wishnok and six brothers, Marion Vroman,
Mantford Vroman, Alfred Vroman, Robert Vroman, Basil Vroman and Merlin Vroman.
Relatives and friends of Betty will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday
(today) at Leo N. Hennes Funeral Home, Inc., 203 E. Main St., Titusville. The
funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. with Thomas Newcombe, assistant to
the pastor at First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be in
Woodlawn Cemetery.
The family suggests that memorial contributions can be made to a charity of
