Ethel Walter, age 94, of Clarion, died Friday, November 22, 2013, at the Brookville Hospital.
Born on June 18, 1919, in Yatesboro, Armstrong County, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Ida (Donahue) Schrecengost.
On August 30, 1941, she married Robert Walter in the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion. He preceded her in death on January 2, 2000 after 60 years of marriage.
In her early years, Ethel worked at the G.C. Murphy Co. five and dime in Clarion and then went on to work at Owens-Illinois glass plant in Clarion from where she retired.
Ethel enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and looked forward to their visits. She spent time reading, crocheting, gardening and caring for her flowers.
She is survived by four children; her daughters, Patty Graybill and her husband Don of Bradford PA, Joan Miller of Shippenville PA, Karen Clark and her husband Gary of Clarion PA, and her son, Larry Walter and his wife Dorothy of Strattanville PA. Ethel’s 11 grandchildren are Jodi (Joe) Blackburn of Mechanicsville VA, Tracie Miller of DuBois PA, Michelle Morgan of West Warwick RI, Eric (Donna) Miller of Raleigh NC, Robert (Jen) Walter of Clarion PA, Kim (Jim) Dolmovich of Sligo PA, Scott Graybill of Pittsburgh PA, Lynette (Andy) Eschrich of Bradford PA, Matt (Kate) Clark of Hilton Head SC, Dan (Kristin) Clark of Clarion PA, and Becky (Jacob) Johnson of Wilson NC. Ethel has 17 great-grandchildren surviving as well.
In addition, she is survived by one sister, Annabelle Mock of Clarion PA and a sister-in-law Dora Schrecengost of Fryburg PA.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Robert Jr., three brothers, Russell, Raymond and Arnold Schrecengost, and two sisters, Edna Hubauer and Geraldine Wilshire.
Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street in Clarion where visitation with the family will be held from 3-6pm on Tuesday, November 26. A Christian Wake service will be held at 6:00pm on Tuesday evening. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Clarion on Wednesday, November 27 at 11:00am with Father Monty Sayers, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Clarion.
