John G. Freas, 88, of Brookville and formerly of Clarion, died Saturday, November 23, at his home.
Born June 21, 1925, in Punxsutawney, he was the son of John S. and Edna (Long) Freas.
John was a veteran of the U.S Army in WWII and served with the 85th Chemical Battalion in the South Pacific Theatre.
He was married on June 11, 1955, to the former Lucy Young, who survives.
John retired in 1987 after 22 years as the circulation manager of the Clarion News.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Clarion.
John enjoyed travel, driving, and working around the house.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons; Daniel Freas and his wife, Barbara, of Elkhorn, Wisconsin and Charles Freas and his wife, Melissa, of Roswell, Georgia; and three grandsons, Travis Freas of Elkhorn, Wisconsin, Gregory Freas of Noblesville Indiana, and Benjamin Freas of Elkhorn, Wisconsin.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Clarion, with Rev. Jake Jacobson and Rev. Deborah Jacobson officiating. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 66 Honor Guard at that time.
