Alberta Stover, 90, of Seneca, died at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family. She was a loving, dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.
Born May 25, 1923 in Newmansville, she was the daughter of the late DeWayne Albert and Orpha Slocum McCauley.
She graduated from the Shippenville High School and then attended the Oil City School of Nursing and became a licensed practical nurse.
She and husband belonged to the A.M. Mall Walkers at the Cranberry Mall.
Mrs. Stover was a member of the Heckathorn United Methodist Church where she participated with the Homemaker’s Club, making crafts.
Alberta and her husband enjoyed traveling and were fortunate to go to places such as Jerusalem, Egypt, and Hawaii. They traveled together to every U.S. state except for Alaska. She was well known in the family for her coleslaw and her pie crusts.
She was employed as a nurse at the Oil City Hospital for 27 years, and following that she did private duty nursing in the area.
She was married on June 1, 1944 to Merle L. Stover, and he preceded her in death on August 6, 1999.
Surviving are four children, Albert D. Stover and wife Joyce of Seneca, Carolyn Seegers and husband Gerald, of Keithville, Louisiana, Rhea D. Hale and husband Harvey of Seneca, with whom she made her home with for the past seven years, and Lawrence C. Stover and wife Debra of Franklin; nineteen grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friends John and Judy Riley of Seneca.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two grandsons, John and Ronald Stover; two brothers, Glen Berdell McCauley and John David McCauley; and a sister, Irene Isabelle Shields.
A private viewing and funeral service will be held for the family in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc., in Seneca, Cranberry Township, with the Rev. Rob Kifer, pastor of Heckathorn United Methodist Church, officiating.
Entombment will follow in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens in Cranberry.
