Thomas R. Burns Sr., 89 of 14329 Rt. 68 Sligo died at 7:07 PM Saturday December 14, 2013 at Clarview Nursing & Rehab. Center near Sligo following a period of failing health.
Born in Licking Twp. May 29, 1924 he was the son of Thomas S. and Rachael Rhea Burns. Tom was a self employed dairy farmer all of life as the owner of Burns Farms and also Burns Trucking of Sligo. He was married June 15, 1945 to the former Norene Elliott and she survives. Tom hosted picnics for the PA Farm Bureau, enjoyed hunting, and entertaining family and friends throughout the year at his camp near Callensburg.
In addition to wife Tom is survived by 3 sons; Thomas R. Burns Jr. of Sligo, Steve Burns and his wife Wendy of Curllsville, and Randy Burns and his wife Trudi of Callensburg, 11 grandchildren; Greg Burns and his friend Amanda, Doug Burns and his wife Janet, Robbie Burns, Clint Burns and his wife Dusty, Stephanie Frances and her husband Ronnie, Billy Burns and his fiancee Abbey, Clay Burns, Shawn Burns, Randon Burns Jr., Katie Mullet and her husband Mason, and Brian Burns and his wife Lori, and 4 greatgrandsons; Nathaniel, Carter, Caden, and Elliott. In addition to his parents he was preced in death by 2 sisters; Olga Straub and Velma Elliott, and a grandson Thomas R. Burns III.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Tuesday December 17, 2013 at the Varner Funeral Home in Sligo. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Wednesday December 18, 2013 from the funeral home with Rev. Larry Piper, pastor of the Sligo Chapel, and Rev. Randy Evans, chaplain of Clarion-Forest VNA, officiating. Interment will follow at the Grandview Cemetery in Sligo. The family suggests memorials be made to the Clarion-Forest VNA Hospice.
