Howard Lewis Buck

Howard Lewis Buck, 80, of Euclid Ave. Brookville, Pa., passed away Monday, December 16, 2013 at McKinley Health Center, Brookville, Pa.

He was born April 22, 1933, the son of Admiral Frank Buck and Ida Mae Tice Buck.

Buck was married to Arvilla Hilliard on January 31, 1958, in South Bethlehem, Pa.

He was a U.S. Army, Sgt. First Class HV Tank Company, 15th Infantry Regiment, in the Korean War, from May 28, 1953 to May 16, 1955 and during this time period he was cited for meritorious service, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Army Commendation Medal. His outstanding dependability and cheerfulness in carrying out his assigned duties materially contributed to the high state of morale in his unit. SFC Buck’s outstanding skill, initiative, and untiring devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon himself and the military service.

He worked for 35 years as a store manager for Brown’s Boot Shop in Brookville, Pa., and for 15 years worked for Clarion University in Clarion, Pa. in housekeeping and grounds maintenance.

Buck was also a member of the American Legion Post 102 in Brookville, Pa.

He enjoyed his daily walks and visiting with people along the way. He enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, and hunting. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their many sporting events throughout the
years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include, 2 Sons and 1 Daughter, Mark Buck (Melissa) of Brookville, Pa., David Buck (Diane) of Brookville, Pa. and Susan Slimak (Darryl) of State College, Pa., 1 Brother and 1 Sister, Frank Buck of Brookville, Pa. and Clara Ion of Shippenville, Pa., 6 grandchildren Heather Hogan (Jimmy), Jennifer Buck, Jason Buck, Bryan Buck, Morgan Slimak, and Emily Slimak, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 Brothers – Wilbur and Vernon Buck, 2 sisters, Harriet Bajoraitis and Florence Finnefrock.

Visitation Hours are Saturday, December 21, 2013 1 PM to 3 PM at the funeral home.

Service will be held Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 3:00 PM at McKinney Funeral Home, officiated by The Rev. Kevin Bockus.

Interment is at Lakelawn Memorial Park located at Reynoldsville, Pa.
