Frances Antionette Dlugos, (Vendetti), 92, died peacefully at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday,December 17, 2013, in Golden Living Center of Oil City, following a period of declining health.
Born June 13, 1921, in Franklin, later residing in Oil City, she was the beloved daughter of the late Dominic and Beatrice Zappia Vendetti, who emigrated from Italy.
Fran was a 1939 graduate of Franklin High School. Following graduation she worked for Faber, Coe & Gregg in the hotel business as the manager of cigar and newsstandsin several locations and states, retiring in 1977. Her favorite location was theFort Pitt Hotel in Pittsburgh where the Steelers held their main office and whereArt Rooney Sr. was her favorite customer. She was an avid Steelers and Pirates fan and all around sports fan. She also met many famous people at her hotel locations.
Fran returned to Oil City in 1979 where she worked as an RSA at Polk Center and again retired in 1984. She was later a cook at the Salvation Army, volunteered at St. Stephen cafeteria and ended her career at the age of 90 at Community Services in Oil City.
Fran was a devout Catholic. She attended mass every morning and was a lector at St. Stephen Church in Oil City until her health declined. She belonged to the Alter Rosary Society where she had been the past President. She passed holding her rosary in her hand.
Fran belonged to the Pulaski Club, Golden Agers Club of the Assumption Church and also the YWCA Gallivanters. She was well known for her homemade desserts and jellies which she enjoyed giving to friends.
She is survived by her nieces, Mary-Kay Hagerty and husband Tim of Franklin, Gina Vendetti Proper of Cooperstown, Janet Carson Lee and husband Jim of Washington, Patty Hollers and husband Jerry of California and Laurie Carson of Washington; her nephews, Frank Vendetti Jr. and wife Judy of Franklin, Mark Kase of Nevada and David Kase and Tom Kase of Arizona. She is also survived by 11 great nieces and nephews and 6 great-great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Carmelena Carson in 1969, Cecelia Spence in 1984, Pat Kase in 2009 and two infant sisters Mary and Pasqualena; her brother, Frank Vendetti Sr. in 2012 and her niece Bobbie Carson in 2013.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Friday in the Reinsel Funeral Home, 116 Bissell Ave., Oil City.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephen Church in Oil City with Fr. Matthew Ruyechan, Pastor, Presiding.
Interment will follow in the St. Patrick Cemetery in Franklin.
