Philip J. Amsdell

Philip J. Amsdell, 85 of 184 Greenway Ave., Seneca, passed away at 9:45 P.M. Friday Dec. 20, 2013 at Family Hospice & Palliative Care in Pittsburgh shortly after suffering a stroke.

He was the son of Edward P. & Jennie Henrietta Amsdell. He was married on Aug. 27, 1955 to Sarah Lorraine Voith who preceded him in death on June 26, 1996.

He is survived by two sons, Scott J. Amsdell of Seneca Steven E. Amsdell & his wife Wendy of Allison Park Two granddaughters Kelsey Amsdell of Jacksonville, FL Megan Amsdell of Allison Park His in-laws Jim & Kay Kifer of Oil City Ralph & Mary Voith of Rockwell City, IA Judy Voith of Las Vegas, NV And his nephew Randy Pullease of Oil City as well as many other nieces and nephews. Phil graduated from Oil City High School in 1946 where he excelled at playing football.

Following High School he served his country in the U.S. Army.

He was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. Upon returning home he graduated from Duff’s Business Institute in the early 1950′s.

He created Amsdell & Son Masonry with his father which transformed into Macon, Inc. in 1980 with his son Scott and Daniel J. King.

Phil Enjoyed playing basketball, volleyball and handball; but his favorite sport was golf.

He won the Eagles Pennsylvania State Championship in 1975 and the Genesee Open in 1980.

He was a member of Wenango Country Club in the 50′s and 60′s and of Cross Creek Resort after that until 2007.

Phil was also a life member of the PNA and the Pulaski Club He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Panthers and a season ticket holder for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Phil went to nearly every game with his family until he was 80. Friends will be received from 6-9 P.M.

Thursday in the Reinsel Funeral Home. Private Funeral Services will be held Friday in the Reinsel Funeral Home with Rev. William Hastings, Pastor of the Seneca United Methodist Church, Presiding.

Interment will be in Brandon Cemetery.
