David L. Thompson, 92, resident of Kennerdell, PA for the past 20 years and formerly of Elwood City, PA passed away January 19, 2014 after an short illness.
Mr. Thompson was born April 10, 1921. He was the son of Jacob Gabe Thompson ad Lila Catherine Thompson who proceeded him death.
He was also proceeded by his sister, Marion McGlincy and an brother Robert Thompson. Mr. Thompson married Doris Mawhinney on May 11, 1942.
They were married for 66 years until her death in 2008. Mr. Thompson graduated from Zelienople High School and worked as an operating engineer for Local 66.
He was a member of Camp Run United Presbyterian Church in Harmony Pa, Rockland UMC and also Kennerdell Church of God. Mr. Thompson severed in the US Army during WWII, he was a Master Sergeant serving in the European Theater. Mr. Thompson was active in both church and the community.
He enjoyed hiking with his dog, bicycling, reading and working on projects. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Zelienople. He survived by his son, Sam Thompson and his wife Lea of Madison NC, and two daughters Susan Tyson and her husband Jeremy of Madison, NC and Kelly Thompson of Kennerdell PA. He had one grandson, Michael Thompson and his wife Virginia of Durham, NC.
A memorial service will be Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Kennerdell Church of God ,151 Watson Ave, Kennerdell, PA 16374. The Franklin VETS Memorial Squad will be conducting military honors.
