Anna Mae Hayes, age 89, of New Bethlehem, passed away Thursday afternoon, January 23, 2014 at her home following an illness.
Born April 15, 1924 in Madison Township, Armstrong County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Wesley Bish and Mary Ecelia Hetrick Bish.
She attended the Ridgeview School in Kellersburg as a youth.
Anna Mae married Lloyd Donald Hopper and he preceded her in death. She later married Williard De Merle “Bucky” Hayes, in Georgia, on January 22, 1968 and he survives.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family. In her earlier years she enjoyed golfing, bowling and gardening.
She also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States with “Bucky” and playing cards.
Anna Mae was of the Methodist faith, was a member of the New Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary and gave her time doing volunteer work in the local area.
Survivors include her husband, “Bucky”, a son: Donald O. Hopper and his wife, Jan R., of Templeton; three step-children: Dr. Bob Hayes and his wife, Mary, of Virginia; Donna White of Florida and Karen Emings and her husband, Darl, of New Bethlehem; Three grandchildren: Larry Wagner and his wife, Cherie, of Arkansas; Teresa “Jeanie” Nelson and her husband, Eric, from the village of Redbank and Lloyd L. Hopper and his wife, Brenda, of Beautiful Lookout; Step grandchildren: Kim Pierce, Chris Hayes and friend, Elizabeth, Jennifer Avram, January and Nick Coventry, all of Arizona and Chad White of Florida, Shane and Hiromi White of Hawaii, Tammy and Mike Catlos of Leechburg and Scott and Mikie Emings of Hawthorn.
She is also survived by her great grandchildren: Jennifer Kaza and husband, Jeremy of Timblin; Doug Hopper of Beautiful Lookout and Torilynne Nelson from the village of Redbank; Step great grandchildren: Nicholas and Stephanie Avery of Arizona; Zin and Mary Jane White of Hawaii; Lauren and Dave Leskowak of Brookville and Brooke and Mikaela Emings of Hawthorn; Great Great Grandchildren: Brylie and Wyatt Kaza of Timblin; two brothers: Mason Bish of New York and John Bish of New Bethlehem and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
In addition to her parents and first husband, Anna Mae was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Mae Wagner, two brothers: Amos and George Bish; one sister, Viola Cendrowski and a niece and nephew.
A private visitation will be held.
Family and Friends are invited to attended funeral services for Anna Mae at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 2014 at the Rupert Funeral Home and Cremation Service Chapel, 233 Penn Street, New Bethlehem. Reverend Ben Shindledecker will officiate over the service.
Interment will follow in the Kellersburg Methodist Cemetery, Madison Township, Armstrong County.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be given in the name of Anna Mae Hayes to the Redbank Valley Public Library, 720 Broad Street, New Bethlehem, PA 16242
