Karen Marie (Haylett) Gass, age 60, of Erie, passed away Friday, January 31, 2014 at UPMC Hamot.
Born August 21, 1953 in Franklin, PA she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Samuel and Irene Marie Baker Haylett.
She attended school in Meadville and then worked for the Shurfine Grocery in McKean, PA and later at Crossroads Dinor in Edinboro, PA.
Karen was a loving and devoted mother to her son and daughter. She dedicated her life to caring for her daughter, Penny Sue, who was the light of her life. She had a great love for animals and her dogs Nikki and Lady. She enjoyed bingo, gardening, canning strawberries, vegetables, and barbecue sauce for her family. She also enjoyed spending time with her family.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred K. Haylett.
Survivors include a son, Gary Dewayne Gass, of Meadville; a daughter Penny Sue Gass of Erie; four sisters, Virginia L. Hannah, Betty M. Uber, husband Francis, Sandy M. Hovis, and Dorothy J. Jewell; 3 brothers, Robert S. Haylett, wife Carol, James R. Haylett, and Jack D. Haylett, wife Linda; two grandchildren, Jessica Leigh Gass and Christopher David Gass; her companion, Charles Bennett; and many nieces and nephews including those in North Carolina.
Arrangements are being handled by Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th St. at Greengarden Boulevard. A private graveside service will be held at a future date for all family members who can attend at Millcreek Cemetery, Utica, PA. Memorials may be made in Karen’s memory to her family in care of Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th St., Erie, PA 16508.
