Joseph L. Knight, 77 of Clarion passed away on February 11, 2014, after a lengthy illness.
Born on July 24, 1936 in Shippenville, PA and he was the son of Emmett and Jessie Hurst Knight.
Joseph graduated in 1954 Shippenville High School. After high school he studied carpentry at the Williamsport Trade School.
On November 28, 1964, Joseph was married to the former Marjorie “Marge” McCord who survives.
He was a member of Greenwood United Methodist Church in Marienville.
Joseph was a self employed general contractor and a self taught Luthier. He had been prefecting his skills for the last 18 years. Joseph was the owner of Strad Jr. Violin Shop which he operated from his small workshop.
Through out his life time he enjoyed running beagles, playing 500 bid with his family, and also attending bluegrass festivals.
Joseph is survived by his wife Marge and their children: a son James “Jim” Knight of Pocono Lake, PA; Lesley Lander and husband Raymond of Lickingville; and Michelle Knight of Pittsburgh. Granddaughters: Sadie Jo and Kaitlyn Jane Schmader both of Lickingville and close family friend Shelby Reagle of Oil City. Also survived by brother Emmett R. and Delores Knight of Shippenville; a sister Bessie Mae Metzger of Pittsburgh; a brother-in-law George G. Wise Sr. of Shippenville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Cora A Hotchkins and Daisy J. Wise.
Friends and family will be received on 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the Faller Funeral Home, Inc. in Fryburg.
A funeral service for Joseph will be held at Greenwood United Methodist Church in Marienville on Friday, February 14, 2014, at 11:00 am with Pastor Daniel Richter officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery following the service.
