Evelyn Mary “Evie” Cannon Williams, 92, formerly of Oil City, died Tuesday, March 11, 2014 in Louisville KY. At the time of her death she resided at the Westport Place Health Campus in Louisville, KY.
Born September 23, 1921 in Worthington OH, she was a daughter of the late Ralph O. and Harriet Morgan Cannon.
Mrs. Williams graduated from Worthington High School in 1939.
An avid bridge player, she was a member of the same bridge club for 50 years, taught bridge at the Oil City YWCA, belonged to Episcopal bridge and the Belles Lettres Club bridge group.
Mrs. Williams was member of the Second Presbyterian Church for 70 years, Past President of the Women’s Circle of Second Presbyterian Church, past Secretary/Treasurer of the Presbyterian Erie Synod, past Chairman of the Venango County Republican Women.
A staunch Republican, Mrs. Williams was honored for voting in 50 consecutive primary and general elections.
She was a past member of the Oil City Club, Wanango Country Club and the Franklin Club.
On April 29, 1944 she was married to Theodore G. (Ted) Williams in Columbus, OH, who preceded her in death on November 19, 1984.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Jane W. and James H. Kenner of Louisville, KY, with whom she resided from 2005 to 2010; a son and daughter-in-law Douglas C. and Carol M. Williams of Oil City; a daughter-in-law Joan M. Williams of TX; four grandsons, Taylor C. Williams of Bedford, PA, Mason D. and Gregory R. Williams of Oil City, Theodore G. Williams, III, Phd.of Montreal; a granddaughter, Lydia K. Williams of FL; 2 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, a son T. Gregory Williams, Esq. of Texas in 2012, three sisters, Catherine White, June Ferguson, Helen Nelson and a niece Candice Nelson all of Columbus, OH area, and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law John R. and Jean Williams of Lititz, PA
Funeral arrangements are being made by Morrison Funeral Home. Visitation hours will be held in the funeral home from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, March 24, 2014.
Service will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 25, 2014, in the funeral home with the Rev. Jamie Fowler officiating.
Interment will follow at the Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens in Cranberry, PA.
The family requests any donations be made to the charity of one’s choice in lieu of flowers.
