Allen S. “Al” Baker, 67, of Chicora, a well known retired teacher, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday evening, April 30, 2014 at his home.
Al was born in Olean, NY on October 12, 1946. He was the son of the late Samuel and Mary Dunn Baker. Al was a long time member of the North Butler Hunting and Fishing Club, and was a life member of Chicora Moose Lodge #962. He enjoyed the company of his grandkids, playing poker with his buddies, playing the lottery, visiting casinos, working outside his home, and flower gardening. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed attending the races. Al was a 1964 graduate of Smethport High School, and a 1968 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with degrees in Business Education, Business English, Business Math, Accounting and Typing. Al earned a Master’s Degree from Robert Morris University. Mr. Baker had a distinguished teaching career at Karns City High School which spanned four decades and three generations of students. His career at Karns City began on August 7, 1968; he retired on June 6, 2008. Mr. Baker also served as the advisor for the year book staff at Karns City High School for many years.
Al is survived by his wife, Kathleen Anderson Baker, whom he married on May 20, 1989 at the Mt. Chestnut Presbyterian Church. Also surviving are three children, Keith Williams Jr. of Chicora, Shelli Cornelius of Fenelton, and Kris Williams and his wife, Hilary, of Karns City; five grandchildren, Danielle, Austin, Krista, Lauren, and Koen; three sisters, Nancy Sturdavant and her husband, Jim, of Smethport, Mary Loomis and her husband, Jim, of Transfer, and Kate Martz and her husband, Kurt, of Fredericksburg, Va., as well as a number of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mr. Baker was preceded in death by two brothers, Steve and Richard Baker.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from Noon – 3 and 6 – 9 p.m. Sunday. Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #962 Chicora will conduct a memorial service for their departed brother at 8:45 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. A funeral service will be held from the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Dennis Barger, Al’s Colleague, and the pastor of the Scrubgrass Stone Church in Emlenton, officiating.
