Reverend Keith Eugene Mong, age 70, of Franklin and formerly of Knox, went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at his home.
Born October 7, 1943 in Knox, he was a son of the late Harold and Dorothy Adams Mong.
He was a graduate of Keystone High School in Knox and furthered his education at Grove City College, graduating Summa cum Laude. Keith finished his degree at the Evangelical School of Theological Seminary in Myerstown, PA.
On September 28, 1968 in Hubbard, Ohio, he married the former Cheryl Kay Purnell of Emlenton. She preceded him into heaven on October 27, 2011.
Keith was a faithful man of God. He was a minister of the Gospel of Christ in the Evangelical Congregational Church. He, along with his wife, served at Hubbard, OH; Johnstown, PA ; Cedarville, IL; Seneca, PA; Winnebago, IL; Columbia, PA and had just retired this spring from his church in Martindale, PA after serving 46 years of active ministry.
Throughout his life, Keith was actively involved in Christian camping ministry through the Evangelical Church, blending his deep desire for young people to know the Lord and share his great delight of God’s creation. He was a gifted preacher, teacher, writer and poet.
Trips to Honduras provided rich opportunities to minister alongside his daughter, Valerie, to the Honduran people. There he raised up six spiritual granddaughters: Maria, Jhoselyn, Eleni, Johana, Fany and Nadetie.
He passionately loved his family and showed them his love thoroughly.
Keith is survived by three daughters: Valerie Schubert and her husband, Ed, of Honduras; Sharon Thomas and her husband, Lowell, of Franklin and Robin Ace and her husband, Jeff, of Knox.
Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchildren who were his great delight: Wesley Keith, Adam John and Cheyence Patricia Schubert; Robert Moyer and his wife, Laura; Scott Andrew Burke, Jr., Tyler Thomas, Sami Andrea Burke, James Thomas, Kirsten Kaye Hicks, Grant Thomas Ace and Clint Jeffrey Ace, Johnathan Keith Wendell Ace, Jhoselyn Allazanna Ace and Olivia Cheryl Ace and Keith’s first great grandson, Landon Moyer.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded to Heaven by a brother and sister, Larry Mong and Darlene Mong.
There will be no calling hours.
A Memorial Service of Triumph is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the Bethany Crossroads Evangelical Congregational Church, 721 Crossroads Church Road, Emlenton. Reverend Fred Moury and Reverend Phil Walck will officiate over the service.
