Millie was born April 12, 1927, in Mill Creek Township, Sandy Lake, to John Ross and Hazel G. Marker Carter. Her mother died when Millie was 13 years old and her father later married Rachel Barnes Carter.
She attended the Milledgeville School and later graduated in 1945 from the former Sandy Lake High School.
Millie married Robert J. (Bob) Adamson on Oct. 20, 1945, and he preceded her in death May 12, 1984. She later married Russell Klasen on Sept. 12, 1990, and he preceded her in death March 23, 1999.
In her early life she was a homemaker and later worked at Harry Bell’s Restaurant in New Lebanon. Later, she retired after 25 years from Polk Center in 1986 as a supervisor in the dietary department where she had also been a cook.
She had attended New Lebanon Community Church since she was a child and was one of their oldest and longest time members.
Bob and Millie enjoyed camping and for many years owned a cabin in Kellettville, and loved going there and spending time with family and friends.
She and Russ were members of the Good Sam’s camping club and the Penn-Ohio Model A Club. Millie and both husbands belonged to card club with many friends over the years and she loved playing any kind of cards.
After her retirement she babysat her grandchildren, Keith and Kelly. She loved those kids and never knew when they were going to come walking in the door or what pet they might be bringing with them. She would do anything for them.
Millie loved making quilts and made between 15 to 20 quilts after she retired. She embroidered most of them but did piece together a few. One year she made 10 Navajo afghans. She spent much of her time reading and when she moved from her home she had more than 500 books in the house.
She loved her dog, Coco, and cat, Suzie Q. She was also known for “Grandma’s candy dish.” There was always candy in a dish on the counter and no matter who walked in, family or friends, they always visited the candy dish first before going into the living room.
