Ronald Edward Andrews

Ronald Edward Andrews, age 77, of Bear Run Road, Marienville, passed away at his home on Sunday, January 5.

Born on September 23, 1936 in Cleveland OH, he was the son of the late Paul V. and Pauline (Olsavsky) Andrews. After his schooling, he served his country in the United States Navy. He was married to the former Noreen Louise Matuszewski, who survives.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and family get togethers.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Andrews is survived by his children, Paul Andrews and his wife Annette, Tracey Hemmis and her husband Jerry, Lisa Meadors and her husband Chris, Michael Andrews and his wife Rossann, and Ronald Slapak and his wife Joanie; his grandchildren, Alyssa, Kayla, Tanner, Michael, Shaina, Mackenzie, Evan, Taylor, Ryan, Brianna, Eric, Zach, and Samantha; his great-grandchildren, Alexander, and Blake; and his sisters, Josephine Slapak, Patricia Czaplicki, and Rose Arnold.

Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street, Clarion. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Jane Lucille Thorhauer

Jane Lucille Thorhauer, 84, of Clarion passed away January 6, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Clarion.

Born September 17, 1929 in Lamaritne, she was the daughter of Willis and Jennie (Rossman) Cochran.

Jane married Richard Thorhauer who preceded her in death. Jane graduated from Salem High School then spent her time raising her family.

She enjoyed doing word searches, listening to county music, watching the Pirates and most of all spending time with her family. Jane is survived by her four daughters Mary (Thomas) Tyler of Shippenville, Jo Ellen (Edward) Shepherd of Bemus Point NY, Nancy (Robert) Clark of Shippenville, and June Thorhauer (Thomas Beary), three sisters Juanita Dittman of OH, June Ross of Kansas, Beatrice Vossburg of Shippenville and a brother in law Robert Best of Knox.

Also surviving are six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents and husband Jane was preceded in death by a son Richard Thorhauer, three sisters Helen Barnett, Geraldine Sweitzer, Ardene Best, five brothers Ralph (Jake) Cochran, Raymond (James) Cochran, Charles Cochran, Clifford Cochran, Robert Cochran and twin great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm Thursday and from 10 to 11 am Friday at the McEntire-Weaver Funeral Home, 504 East Penn Ave, Knox, PA.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. Carol Brown of MCM Co-op officiating.

Interment will follow at the Scrubgrass Cemetery.

Virginia M. O’Neill

Virginia M. O’Neill, 95, formerly of Titusville, passed away Saturday evening January 4, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in Oil City.

Virginia was born on March 5, 1918 in Oil City, a daughter of the late Donald and Olive Shaul Cochran. She was married to Regis P. O’Neill, Sr. on Nov. 27, 1936 at St. Titus Rectory in Titusville. He preceded her in death on July 19, 1990.

Virginia had been employed for over 40 years at the former Robinson’s Wallcoverings in Titusville until her retirement in 1980.

She was a member of St. Titus Church.

She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Patricia O’Neill Beers and husband Harold of Oil City; five grandchildren, Gerald O’Neill and wife Kathy of Hydetown, Virginia Kurschinski and husband David of Hydetown, Carrie Fox of

Titusville, Donald O’Neill and wife Brenda of Titusville, and Michael O’Neill and wife Sherri of Titusville; eight great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; two brothers, Donald L. Cochran, Jr. and wife Pat of San Antonio, TX and Robert Cochran and wife Jean of Winthrop, Maine; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Regis P. “Pat” O’Neill, Jr. on Sept. 16, 1987, and a sister, Dora Kerr.

Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Wednesday from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at which time the funeral service will be conducted with Fr. Walter E. Packard, pastor of the Titusville Catholic Community, as celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Catharines Cemetery.

James Joseph Wilk

James Joseph Wilk, 86, of Parker passed away at 11:15 PM Friday evening (12-27-13) at his residence following an extended illness.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pa. on March 31, 1927, he was the son of the late Walter J. and Monica Faber Wilk. Jim graduated from Peabody High School in Pgh., the former Gimbel’s Mercantile School, and completed the management courses with Dale Carnegie.

A veteran of World war II, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946.

He was honorably discharged with rank of Seaman 1st Class, and earned the American Area Victory Medal.

Mr. Wilk worked in carpet sales and management with various carpet companies including Gimbel’s, Ozite, and Pennsylvania Floors.

He was a member of Lodge 808 F.& A.M. of Pleasant Hills, Pa. Surviving are his wife, Nancy Cooper Wilk; three sons: David Alan, Russell Keith, and James Michel Wilk; two step-children: William J. Hildebrand and Mary Jane Nail; several grand and step-grandchildren; brother John (Jack) Wilk of Calif. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 PM THURSDAY, Jan. 2nd, at H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home, 201 So. Wayne Ave., Parker.

Funeral services will be held at 8:00 PM Thursday in the funeral home with Pastor Chris Clark of the Chapel on the Hill officiating. Private burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Members of the VFW and American Legion of Parker will conduct veteran services at 3:45 PM Thurs. at funeral home.

Corey Edward Conrad

Corey Edward Conrad, 34, of Meadville died Monday, December 30, 2013 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born July 11, 1979 in Meadville a son of Gary E. and Pennie L. Swavey Conrad.

He married Carey Hazen July 2, 2001 and she survives. He was a 1998 graduate of Meadville Area Senior High School and currently was working for Lord Corp. in Cambridge Springs and previously worked at Meadville Forging.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife Carey of Meadville; two children, Cameron E. Conrad and Carleigh A. Conrad both at home; his parents, Gary and Pennie Conrad of Meadville; a brother, Chad Conrad and his wife Christi of Apex, NC; a half-sister, Lori Yokeley and her husband Frank of Stokesdale, NC and seven nieces and nephews, Caitlyn, C.J. and Calsey Conrad and Jada, Robert, Michael and Joshua Yokeley.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.

Arthur B. Gedeon

Arthur B. Gedeon, 89, of Linesville, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at his residence.

Born September 15, 1924, in Warren, Ohio, he was the son the Geza and Helen Nahalka Gedeon. He married Violet G. Kessman on May 15, 1948 at St. Mary’s Church in Warren, Ohio. He and his wife moved to Linesville in 1990.

He served our country in the United States Army during World War II from 1943 until he was honorably discharged in 1946. For 47 years, he worked for Packard Electric as an electrician and retired in 1989.

Arthur was a member of St. Philip Roman Catholic Church in Linesville. Also, he was a member of the Pymatuning Sportsman’s Club in Linesville, NRA, Trumbull County Rod and Gun Club, Ohio Rifle and Pistol Club. He was a lifetime member of the Moose International Lodge and American Legion.

He was assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 27 and 25 of Champion, Ohio. Arthur loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Violet Gedeon; seven children, Kathleen Zeleny and her husband, Paul, of Newton Falls, Ohio, Mary Ann Silman of Linesville, Richard Gedeon of Sandy Lake, Robert Gedeon and his wife, Samantha, of Yuma, Arizona, Susanne Gedeon and her companion, Gregg Sichner, of Mentor, Ohio, Thomas Gedeon and his wife, Melody, of Warren, Ohio, and Barbara Williams and her husband, Mark, of South Charleston, West Virginia; 16 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and a sister, Carol Hipple and her husband, Waldo, of Warren, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Gregory Silman; and eight siblings, Helen Check, Irma Myers, Ted Gedeon, Mary Wilson, and Rudolf, Joanne, Ernie and Elizabeth Gedeon.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Royal-Coleman Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church, 401 S. Mercer St., Linesville, with Father Denny Veltri as celebrant. Full military honors provided by Huidekoper Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006 will be conducted at the church.

Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Cortland, Ohio.

Memorial contributions may be made in Arthur’s name to St. Philip Church or the Cleveland Clinic, Children’s Cancer Unit.

David J. Hiles

David J. Hiles, 44 of East Brady died Monday January 6, 2014 with his family by his side after a brief courageous battle with cancer.

Born July 11, 1969 in Butler, he was the son of J. Gary and Kaye F. (Fowler) Hiles.

A 1988 Graduate of East Brady High School, David was employed for 18 years as a Union Carpenter for John Morris & Sons Inc. in Pittsburgh. He specialized in drywall installation. Previously David worked at the Archway Cookie Co. in Rimersburg.

David was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. He was also a member of the Karns City Quarterback Club. Previously David had coached the Karns City Blue Devils Youth Football.

David enjoyed hunting and the outdoors. He looked forward to his yearly bear hunting trips to Tionesta with his friends. He enjoyed watching the Steelers, the Penguins and all of his stepson Logan’s sporting events.

David’s true passion was weight lifting. He would often been seen in his garage with his buddies after work. He instilled his passion for the sport in many teenagers in the East Brady area.

David enjoyed long walks in Snyder Hollow with his golden retriever Bo. He will always be remembered for great times with friends on the water, whether it be the Allegheny River or his backyard pool. David was a great husband, father, son, uncle, neighbor and friend. He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife Jerilynn N. Hiles of East Brady whom he married August 6, 2005. His stepson Logan M. Moroney of East Brady, his mother Kaye F. Hiles of Kittanning Hollow, 2 brothers James C. Hiles of Kittanning Hollow and Michael A. Hiles (Lisa) of Sherret.

He is also survived by his mother and father in law Ron and Linzie Keefer of Clarion, 2 nephews, 2 nieces, and several aunts and uncles.

David was preceded in death by his father Gary.

James L. Bemis

James L. Bemis, 53, of 104 W Front St, Oil City, died unexpectedly Monday, January 6, 2014, at his residence.

Born January 4, 1961 in Oil City, he was a son of the late Samuel L. and Dorothy Etzel Murray Bemis.

Jim worked delivering pizzas for a number of years, managed 2 pizza shops, and worked for Zambelli’s Fireworks for a period of time.

He was currently a Go Bus driver for the County of Venango.

Jim enjoyed WWE wrestling, NASCAR, fireworks, electronics and watching movies with his family.

On Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1985, he married the former Caroline Sanford, who survives.

In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by three daughters, Andrea Bemis and Jerry Burrows and their children Natalie Jaymes, Rodney and Tyrome, all of Oil City, Katrina Rasmussen and husband Tim and their son, Tim III of New York, and Kylie Bemis and Nick Whitmore and their children, Corgan and Jack of Franklin; two brothers, Jack Murray and wife Aggie of Ohio, and Sam Bemis and wife Sadie of Oil City; and four sisters, Jeanie Murray of Florida, Karen Beach and husband Jerry of Florida, Debbie Griffin and husband Ronald of Oil City and Pam Hale of Oil City.

Also surviving are three sisters-in-law, Darlene Hendrix and husband Scott of Missouri, Martha Stansbury and husband Jerry of Titusville, and Cathy Kahoutek and husband Joe of Georgia; three brothers-in-law, William Sanford and wife Marge of Oil City, Wesley Sanford and wife Ginger of Cranberry, Jay Bickel and wife Danielle of Oil City; and Sue Sanford, surviving wife of Jim’s father-in-law.

There will be no visitation.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at a later date.

James R. Callihan, 80, of Lucinda, died Monday, January 6, 2014, at the UPMC Mercy Hospital.
Born September 6, 1933 in Helen Furnace; he was the son of Cecil C. and Mary Milliron Callihan.

He was married on June 14, 1954 to the former Monica Wagner, and she survives.

A veteran, James served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict.

He worked in the coal industry, working at Zacherl Coal and Wagner Coal. He then retired from Colt Resources. After retirement, James worked at J & L Sporting Goods.

James was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lucinda.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree.

In addition to his wife, Monica, he is survived by two sons, Randolph W. Callihan and his wife, Jennifer, of Beijing, and William A. Callihan and his wife, Lori, of Lucinda; nine grandchildren, Devin,

Donavan, Cory, Eileen, Erin, Clayton, Kathleen, Myles, and Brigid; and seven great grandchildren.

Also surviving are six siblings, Evelyn McClain and her husband, Richard, of Butler, Carol Smith and her husband, Archie, of Limestone, Paul Callihan and his wife, Natalie, of California, Beverly Hess and her husband, Robert, of Florida, Larry Callihan of Greenville, and Darlene Callihan of Helen Furnace.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three infant children, Brenda, John, and Eileen; five siblings, Eugene Callihan, Donald Callihan, Janice Wrobleski, Danny Callihan, and Elaine Callihan; and a granddaughter, Maeve.

Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2014, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, 638 Wood Street, Clarion.

Christian wake service will be held at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2014, in the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 10, 2014, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lucinda, with Rev. Joseph Czarkowski, pastor of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, presiding.

Interment will be held at the St. Joseph Church Cemetery in Lucinda.

Lawrence J. “Junior” Griebel

Lawrence J. “Junior” Griebel, 81, of Lucinda, died Monday evening, January 6, 2014 at his home.

Born July 2, 1932 in Brookville, he was the son of the late Lawrence Jacob and Florence E. Fitzgerald Griebel.

He married the former Lucille A. “Susie” Ochs on April 8, 1961 at St. Joseph Church in Lucinda and she preceded him in death on November 10, 2012.

Mr. Griebel served with the U.S. Army. He worked for the Marienville Glass Plant. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lucinda. In addition, he was a member of the Clarion Moose Club, the Lucinda Antler Club and the Clarion American Legion.

Junior enjoyed clock collecting and repair and hunting with his family.

Mr. Griebel is survived by 3 sons: Rodney J. Griebel and his wife, Rhea of Hanover, PA, Todd M. Griebel of Mesa, Arizona and Lawrence J. Griebel, Jr. and his wife, Theresa of Kent Island, Maryland.

In addition, he is survived by 3 sisters and 2 brothers: JoAnn Sedon of Warren, PA, Shirley McFarland and her husband, Harvey of Florida, Ronald Griebel and his wife, Nancy of Erie, William Griebel of Snydersburg and Kathleen Doyle of Flagstaff, Arizona.

He is survived by 3 grandchildren: Samantha, Hannah and Ava Griebel and 2 step-grandchildren: Michael Money and his wife, Jaclyn of Crofton Maryland and Jeffery Money and his wife, Victoria of Mississippi. He is also survived by 4 step-great grandchildren: Michelle, Ryan, Jeffery, Jr. and Samantha Money.

In addition to his parents and wife, Junior was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Griebel.

Friends and family may call from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 10, 2014 at St. Joseph Church in Lucinda. A Mass of Christian will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Joseph Czarkowski, pastor of the church, as celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Arlene Ruth Stephens Cook

Arlene Ruth Stephens Cook, 81, formerly of Rocky Grove passed away Tuesday at 9:50 A.M. January 7, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Oil City. She was known to everyone as “Cookie”.

The daughter of the late Arthur Leroy and Susie Ion Rumberger Stephens she was born in Woodland Heights, Oil City on April 26, 1932. She was a graduate of Cranberry High School.

She retired in June 1994 after working in the Valley Grove School District Cafeteria for 26 years. She and her husband owned and operated Cookie’s Mini-Donuts concession stand for a number of years.

She was a member of the Fox Street Church of God. Active in the community in October 1999 she received the Citizen Volunteer Service Community Award by Governor Tom Ridge.

Cookie will be remembered for doing crafts, tending her flower gardens, sending cards, celebrating the holidays, playing Bingo, doing search-a-words and attending the activities at the nursing home. Her humor, bright smile and her retelling the stories of her life will be missed by family and friends.

On October 29, 1955 she married George Henry Cook in the Christ Lutheran Church in Oil City and he died on March 22, 1993.

Surviving are two daughters Karen Sue Mortimer and her husband Patrick J. of Oil City and Cindy Mae Wengerd of Millersburg, OH; four grandchildren Ryan Lee Wengerd and his wife Candi of Millersburg, OH, Danielle Marie Wagers and her husband Justin of Holmesville, OH, Sean Patrick Mortimer and Jolene Suzanne Mortimer both of Oil City, and three great granddaughters Breanna Mercedes Wengerd, Alexis Nichole Wagers and Bristol Leigh Wengerd all of Ohio. Also surviving are two brothers Dwane Stephens of Texas and Lloyd Stephens and his wife Janet of Cranberry, and a brother-in-law Lloyd “Sonny” Sampsell of Dempseytown and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by three brothers Ronald in 1926, Gerald “Judd” in 1999 and John “Lee” Stephens in 2012, her beloved sister Mildred “Millie” Sampsell in 2011 and her son-in-law Charles “Chuck” Wengerd in 1991.

Friends will be received at Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 312 W. Park St. Franklin on Thursday from 3:00 – 7:00 P.M.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel at 7:00 P.M. Thursday with Rev. Mark Rusnak of Asera Care Hospice, officiating.

Maxine E. Hannold

Maxine E. Hannold, age 87, of Shippenville, passed away Monday afternoon, January, 6, 2014 at the Clarion Hospital.

Born July 20, 1926 in Sligo, she was a daughter of the late David and Francis Fox Courson.

She married John R. Hannold on May 17, 1947. He preceded her in death on September 20, 1993.

Maxine retired in 1992 as a cook at the Clarion Hospital

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Clarion and enjoyed cooking, sewing and baking.

Survivors include one son: John W. Hannold and his wife, Rhonda, of Cranberry; four daughters: Marilyn Bish and her husband, Karl, of Shippenville; Patricia Best and her husband, Lynn, of Knox; Connie Rupp and her husband, Alan, of Knox and Trena Myers and her husband, Les, also of Knox; eight grandchildren: Dana, Matthew, Josh, Miranda, Ethan, Tanner, Chris and Zach; twelve great grandchildren: Madison, Sadie, Carly, Jordan, Jackson, Elijah, Kelsey, Carter, Taylor, Owen, Madylon and Trace.

Maxine is also survived by a brother, Carl Courson and his wife, Pat, of Reidsburg; a sister, Margaret Staab of Clarion and her best friend, Josephine Boorech.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Karla, an infant son, three brothers: Fred, Ralph and Dean and three sisters: Lois, Bertha and Grace.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service for Maxine at 11 a.m. Friday, January 10, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church of Clarion, 600 Wood Street, Clarion.

The Reverend Dr. Deryl Larsen, pastor of the church, will officiate over the service.

John J. (Jack) Hindman

John J. (Jack) Hindman, 81, of Venango Township, Boyers, passed away early Tuesday morning, Jan. 7, 2014, at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Born in Meadville on May 26, 1932, he was a son of the late Ernest L. and Lola Jean McFadden Hindman.

Mr. Hindman was employed more than 25 years as a heavy equipment operator with Local 66 Operating Engineers.

He was Protestant by faith.

Jack was an avid fisherman and enjoyed golfing.

He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army with the rank of private first class, having served from June 1949 to October 1952. He was a longtime member of Paul W. Wood Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7840 of Hilliards.

Surviving are two daughters, Cindy Elder of Emlenton and Pam (Rick Page) Hindman of Utica; three sons, Ernie (Becky) Hindman of Parker, Tim Hindman of Boyers and Dan (Leona) Hindman of Harrisville; nine grandchildren, Stormie, Cheyenne, Joshua and David Hindman, Melissa Shearer, Heather Slater, Shane Carr, Kristina Kildoo and Kelly Chambers; five great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Robert Schultz of Titusville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline “Jackie” Schultz Hindman, who passed away Aug. 7, 2009. He was also preceded by a granddaughter, Lacey Hindman; daughter-in-law, Traci L. Hindman; and his only sister, Sally Holt.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home Inc., 201 S. Washington St., Eau Claire (Butler County).

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in funeral home, with the Rev. Gary Donaldson, United Methodist minister, officiating.

Burial will follow in Eau Claire Cemetery.

Memorial services by VFW and American Legion posts of Parker will be conducted at 10:45 a.m. Friday preceding the funeral.

Thomas Andrew Demko, former Sheriff of Jefferson County, died Monday, January 6, 2014 at Punxsutawney Area Hospital. Sheriff Demko, aged 75, was born on October 19, 1938, in Punxsutawney to the late Andrew and Madeline (Filitske) Demko. He is survived by his wife Arletta Anne (née Shaffer).

Sheriff Demko was a dedicated public servant who served his country both locally and nationally for most of his life. He served in the United States Army during the Berlin and Cuban Crises and retired as a First Sergeant from the Army Reserves. He was also a former Pennsylvania State Parole Agent, a police officer with the Punxsutawney Borough Police and was elected to three terms as Sheriff of Jefferson County.

Sheriff Demko was a devoted family man and active member of the community. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. For many years he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Eagles, Elks, Fraternal Order of Police, Knights of Columbus (past president) and the Sheriff’s Association of PA (past president).

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children: Tim Demko and wife Laura of Houston, TX, and Joe Demko and wife Oksana of Eastvale, PA; two grandchildren, Noah Michael Demko and Grace Magdalene Demko; two sisters, Liz McGarvey and husband Dave of Punxsutawney, and Jean Shaw and husband Mike of Punxsutawney.

Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2014 and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc. A Parastas service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at S.S. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, celebrated by Father Simeon Sibenik.

Interment will follow at S.S. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Cemetery.

Marcy Lynn O’Neil, 52, of Rockland, died unexpectedly early Sunday morning, January 5, 2014.

Marcy was born in Franklin on June 3, 1961. She was the daughter of William K. and Carol Lee Kosiorek O’Neil of Rockland.

She was of the protestant faith and had attended the Rockland United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed reading, gardening, flowers, and especially the company of her grandchildren.

She was employed as a cook at Bob Evans Restaurant in Cranberry and had been with the restaurant since it opened in 2004.

Surviving are five children: Jennifer Lynn Kellerman and husband Steven of Knox, Jessica Lynn O’Neil and her boyfriend John Winkelbauer of Edinboro, Catherine Elizabeth Johnson and her boyfriend Jason Banton of Wooster, Ohio, as well as their father, Dorr W. Johnson of Emlenton.

Marcy is additionally survived by two sons, Clifford Eugene Watson and his girlfriend Daryan Switzer of Rockland and Tyler James Watson of Rockland, as well as their father, Marcy’s fiancé, Clifford E. Burgdorfer of Rockland.

Nine grandchildren survive, Travis, Zachary, Mackenzie, Taylor, Shelby, Kiley, Rion, Deegan, and Elvira; three sisters, Tammy Sue Metts of Fryburg, Margaret Ann “Peggy” Cozad and husband Mark of Clintonville, and Billie Rene Campbell and her fiancé Donald Graham of Rockland; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents.

Friends will be received Wednesday (Jan. 8) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc., 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home Thursday (Jan. 9) at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Linda Dinger, pastor of Rockland United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Rockland Cemetery, Kennerdell.

Hazel A. Bowser, 83, of Sligo, PA, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Brookville Hospital.

She was born in Wildcat, PA on December 29, 1930, the daughter of William and Nellie (Priester) Best.

Hazel was a lifetime resident of the area and attended Pine City Free Methodist Church. She dedicated her life to caring for her family, and was a wonderful cook and baker who was especially known for her homemade bread, buns and spaghetti. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting and creating pieces from plastic canvas. Family was the most important thing to Hazel, and she loved playing with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, Lloyd Bowser, Jr., of Sligo, Dale Bowser and wife, Faith, of Beaver Springs, Donald Bowser and wife, Joy, of Kittanning, and Philip Bowser and wife, Susan, of Sligo; daughters, Stella Stockdill, of Oil City, and Donna Browand, of New Cumberland; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mabel Fauzey and husband, David, of Rimersburg, and Merna Glenn, of Tidioute, PA.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Lloyd J. Bowser, Sr., whom she married August 2, 1952 and who died February 5, 2013; grandson, Michael Yarchuk; brothers, Paul and Philip Best; and sisters, Edna Yori, Elsie Buzard, Helen Newman, Anna Yori, Alice Ferguson and Nancy Best.

At the request of the family, services will be private.

Burial will be in Lawn Haven Burial Estates, Worthington, Pennsylvania.

Clarence E. Embleton, 81, of Newport News, Virginia, formerly of Oil City, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully and entered into the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, January 7, 2014.

Clarence was born on November 21, 1932, the son of Clarence and Edna (Say) Embleton of Oil City, Pennsylvania. He was married for 54 years to his devoted spouse, Dolores, who pre-deceased him in August 2013, and the remainder of his life journey was not the same without her. Throughout his life, Clarence was a faithful loving husband and father, a dedicated worker, and loved playing cards and board games.

He was retired from Continental Can Company where, except for his service in the Army during the Korean War, he began on the loading dock and worked his way up to become Plant Manager during a 37-year career. A resident of Newport News, he attended Northside Christian Church, from whom he received such wonderful support and encouragement. Clarence enjoyed the fellowship of close friends and his family will always be grateful for the sacrificial love shown to him, particularly by his Sunday morning classmates. His gentle manner and quiet perseverance will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.

Clarence is survived by a daughter and son and two grandchildren. They are Scott & Karen Embleton and their daughters Evan and Alyssa of Newport News, Virginia, and Rick & Debbie (Embleton) Johnson of Yorktown, Virginia.

Mildred G. (Millie) Adamson Klasen

Mildred G. (Millie) Adamson Klasen, formerly of Sandy Lake and Cochranton, passed away surrounded by her family at 9:10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, in Sugar Creek Station, Franklin, where she had lived since Jan. 5, 2009. She was 86.

Millie was born April 12, 1927, in Mill Creek Township, Sandy Lake, to John Ross and Hazel G. Marker Carter. Her mother died when Millie was 13 years old and her father later married Rachel Barnes Carter.

She attended the Milledgeville School and later graduated in 1945 from the former Sandy Lake High School.

Millie married Robert J. (Bob) Adamson on Oct. 20, 1945, and he preceded her in death May 12, 1984. She later married Russell Klasen on Sept. 12, 1990, and he preceded her in death March 23, 1999.

In her early life she was a homemaker and later worked at Harry Bell’s Restaurant in New Lebanon. Later, she retired after 25 years from Polk Center in 1986 as a supervisor in the dietary department where she had also been a cook.

She had attended New Lebanon Community Church since she was a child and was one of their oldest and longest time members.

Bob and Millie enjoyed camping and for many years owned a cabin in Kellettville, and loved going there and spending time with family and friends.

She and Russ were members of the Good Sam’s camping club and the Penn-Ohio Model A Club. Millie and both husbands belonged to card club with many friends over the years and she loved playing any kind of cards.

After her retirement she babysat her grandchildren, Keith and Kelly. She loved those kids and never knew when they were going to come walking in the door or what pet they might be bringing with them. She would do anything for them.

Millie loved making quilts and made between 15 to 20 quilts after she retired. She embroidered most of them but did piece together a few. One year she made 10 Navajo afghans. She spent much of her time reading and when she moved from her home she had more than 500 books in the house.

She loved her dog, Coco, and cat, Suzie Q. She was also known for “Grandma’s candy dish.” There was always candy in a dish on the counter and no matter who walked in, family or friends, they always visited the candy dish first before going into the living room.

Surviving are a daughter, Karen D. Foust and her husband, Charlie, and a son, Robert K. Adamson and his wife, Patty, all of Sandy Lake; a grandson, Keith Adamson of Sandy Lake; a granddaughter, Kelly Adamson of Stoneboro; also a stepson, Robert Klasen and his wife, Joyce, of Cochranton, and their children and grandchildren, Julie Klasen and her husband, Craig Lewis, and their son, Natee, and Robert Klasen, all of Pittsburgh, Susan Soucie and her husband, Brad, and their children, Meg and Jack, and Erin Klasen, all of New Hampshire; a stepdaughter, Vicki Shea and her husband, Norm, and their children and grandchildren, Laurie Lesh and her husband, Jason, and their children, Nathan and Grace, Carrie Guarante and her husband, Nick, and their children, Molly, Ryan, Carley and Hannah, all of Millerstown, and Ben Shea of Arlington, Va.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and three sisters, Lillian Plants, Mary Adamson and infant sister, Ruth Carter.

Memorial contributions may be made to New Lebanon Community Church, 4166 Mercer St., Sandy Lake, Pa. 16145; or the Sugar Creek Auxiliary, 351 Causeway Drive, Franklin, Pa. 16323.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Scott A. Black Funeral Home, 99 Franklin St., Stoneboro.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in New Lebanon Community Church, 4166 Mercer St., Sandy Lake, with the Rev. Dr. Richard C. Steinlechner, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Virginia LaVan Gadsby, associate pastor, co-officiating.

Interment and the committal service will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Sandy Lake Township.

David A. Barrett, 47, of 8 Smedley St. Oil City, Pa., died at 12:30 P.M. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at his home following an extended illness.

Born May 6, 1966 in Oil City, PA., he was the son of Donna Showers Barrett and the late Frank Barrett.

Dave was a graduate of Cranberry High School.

He was employed as a plumber for Collins Plumbing and Heating of Oil City since 1985.

Dave was married on May 17, 2012 to Judy Stone Downs and she survives.

He enjoyed off roading and mudding. He also enjoyed working around the house, where he could fix anything and was always working on a home-improvement project. He took great pride in his workmanship.

He will be remembered as a quiet man, who was a hard worker and was always willing to help someone in need.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Donna Barrett, of Cranberry; two step-children, Kelly Weaver and her husband Brady of Oil City, and Heather Fletcher and her husband Rob of Washington, D.C.; two grandchildren, Seth and Otis; two brothers, Dan Barrett, of Cranberry, and Bob Barrett and his wife Joyce, of Florida; and a niece, Amy Tobin and her children Kyle and Caitlin.

Dave is also survived by his aunts and uncles, Helen Drelick, of Oil City; Gene Showers, of Franklin; Sandy and Richard Showers, of Columbus, OH; Jim and Dottie Heigley, of Oil City; Alberta and Phil Maier, of Oil City; Jim Barrett, of Jupiter, FL; Margaret Barrett of Edinboro; and Sandy Dowlan, of Shippenville; and his-in-laws, Mary Fletcher, of Centennial, CO; Shirley and Leroy Collins of St. George; Nancy and Kim Henderson, of Oil City, as well as numerous nieces and nephews;

He was preceded in death by his father and by a brother Michael Barrett.

Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. on Friday in the Reinsel Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m with Rev. Rob Kifer of the Heckathorn United Methodist Church presiding.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
