John E. Dilley

John E. Dilley, 73, of Knox passed away at home Sunday March 2, following an extended illness.

Born February 1, 1941, in Franklin, he was the son of Bert Dilley and Ruth Botts. John graduated from North Clarion High School and then joined the Army.

While in the Army he served in Germany during the construction of the Berlin Wall, Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis and served as a sharp shooter in Vietnam and was awarded the sharp shooter medal. On July 4, 1961, John married Mary Gilbert who survives. Along with his wife John is survived by his mother, five children, William Dilley of Titusville, J. Scott (Lisa) Dilley of Strattanville, James Dilley of Pittsburgh, Deb (Keith) Courson of Clarion, Janice (Kirk) Byerley of Lamartine, nine grandchildren Anthony Dilley, Caleb Dilley, Joshua Dilley, Aaron Dilley, Katlyn Dilley, Tyler Dilley, Noah Dilley, Jakeb Byerley, and Makenzie Byerley. Also surviving are two great grandchildren Bailey Dilley, Emma Dilley, a brother Joseph Botts of Strattanville and a sister Sally Rapp of Shippenville.

John was preceded in death by his father, his step father Joseph Botts and his mother in law Mary Gilbert.

Private services will be held by the family. The McEntire-Weaver Funeral Home, 504 East Penn Ave, Knox, is in charge of arrangements.

Leroy E. Meehan

Leroy E. Meehan, 65, of Rouseville died early Monday Morning March 3, 2014 at his home following an extended illness.

Born Nov. 23, 1948 in Oil City, PA., he was the son of the late Austin E. Meehan & Lillian Proper Meehan.

Leroy graduated in 1966 from Oil City High School, and then served his country as a machine repairman (E-5) in the U.S. Navy from April 29, 1968 to April 28, 1972 serving during the Vietnam War.

Leroy had received the National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.

He then worked as a machinist for Oilwell, Trico Industry, Zurns and for Unimold of SMS until illness forced him to retire in 2006.

Leroy was of the Catholic Faith.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working on vehicles.

Leroy was formerly married to the former Judith Frantz.

He is survived by three sisters, Sarah & Dave Moon of Meadville, Linda Meehan of Oil City, Catherine & Richard Hargenrader of Texas. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Renee Moon & Raquel Moon of Meadville, Jason & Christy Hargenrader & their daughter Grace of Australia, Candace & Brian Nolte of Texas, Three Grandchildren, Kaitlin, Austin and Conner of Oil City, Special friends, Jessica & Jim Lutz, Wendy Daly, Dave Stover and Robert Myers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Gregory Meehan.

Their will be no viewing or visitation.

Private interment will take place in Grove Hill Cemetery.

Bernard “Bernie” H. Seigworth

Bernard “Bernie” H. Seigworth, 85, of 13557 Wolf Rd., Guys Mills, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014, at home.

Bernie was born in Clarion, on July 4, 1928, a son of the late Clarence and Elisebeth (Donohue) Seigworth.

On July 14, 1955, Bernie married Lucille A. Shumaker; she preceded him in death on August 28, 2007.

He was a member of Lyona Bible Church, Guys Mills.

At the young age of 14, Bernie began driving trucks and later became a self employed turck driver, retiring in 1998. During his 56 year career, he drove throughout the entire US and most of Canada. Additionally he enjoyed farming; growing vegetables, raising cattle, pigs and chickens. A veteran of the US Army, he served during the Korean Conflict. He attended schools in Clarion. Bernie was a member of Venango VFW Post #169 and Saegertown American Legion Post #205. His hobbies included working on cars. A very giving man, Bernie was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Bernie was deeply loved and respected by his family. He be remembered as a very special husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be sadly missed.

Bernie is survived by a son Douglas W. Seigworth, a daughter Melinda Bish, both of Meadville, three grandchildren Danielle Stevens and her husband Ryan, Heather Beck and her husband Todd, Shane Knapp and his wife Jessica Meeker, eight great grandchildren Haley, Madison, Ryliegh, Dawson, Charelsie, Brayden, Avery, Owyn, three sisters, a brother, many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife Lucille of 52 years, Bernie was preceded in death by infant twin daughters Sylvia Jane and Sonia Lee Seigworth, a great grandson Dustin Beck and three brothers.

Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, from 5-7 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM with Michael Fraser, Pastor, of Lyona Bible Church officiating. Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006 will follow.

Bernie will be laid to rest next to his wife, Lucille, in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Vernon Twp.

Mark E. Renninger, 48, of 503 Plummer St, Oil City, died at 10:15 pm Sunday, March 2, 2014, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca.

Born August 18, 1965 in Oil City, Mark was a son of Carmen Malone and the late Everret Renninger.

He graduated from Oil City High School in 1985.

Mark was employed at Thorn’s Market.

He attended Turning Point, loved watching wrestling, camping, and spending time with family and friends.

Surviving are his mother, Carmen Malone and stepfather Jack Malone of Oil City; two brothers, Patrick Renninger and wife Susan of Springboro, and Craig Renninger and companion Christina Gabel of Oil City; one sister, Angel McCracken and husband Joe of Oil City; two step-sisters, Karen Malone of Erie and Jennifer Warner of Rouseville; a step-brother, Randall Malone and companion Stacey Smith of Oil City; two nieces, Sammantha Willmeth and Brandi McCracken; and two nephews, Aaron McCracken and Joel McCracken; multiple step nieces and nephews; and a 4-legged sister, Hope Faith

Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 7 pm Wednesday with the Rev. Larry Williams, officiating.

Betty J. Stack

Betty J. Stack, 90, formerly of Oil City, of Kenosha, Wisconsin, died at 4 pm on Friday, February 28, 2014.

Born Dec. 19, 1923 in Coal City, she was the daughter of the late George E. and Ethel M. Flowers Schoch.

She had moved with her husband to different parts of Pennsylvania and Orchard Park, New York with her husband’s job.

Mrs. Stack graduated from Rockland High School and started working for GTE Telephone Company in Oil City and also did volunteer work.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Oil City.

Mrs. Stack was married to Harry J. Stack Jr. in Oil City on Aug. 9, 1946, he preceded her in death on October 7, 2005.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda Owens (Chris) of Kenosha, Wisconsin, and a Granddaughter Stacy (Steve) Forsyth of Mt. Pleasant, Wisconsin, and a sister Eileen Yingling of Franklin.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her daughter Joyce, her son Larry, her sister Twyla, and 2 half-sisters Marion and Thelma, who she thought of very much as sisters.

At the time of her death she was living with her daughter and son-in-law in Kenosha.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 pm on Friday March 7, 2014 at the Morrison Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 4 pm Friday.

Interment will be in Grove Hill Cemetery next to her loving husband of 59 years.

Marion L. Rakovan, 84 , a resident at the Jefferson Manor, formerly of North View Drive, Brookville, died Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the Jefferson Manor in Brookville.

Marion was born July 9,1929 in Ashland Township, Clarion Co. PA. the daughter of Wilbur Homer Kiser and Gladys Elslager Kiser. She graduated from Clarion High School and married Martin R. Rakovan, Sr. in 1950. Before
being diagnosed with MS, Marion was employed by the OI Glass Plant in Clarion, PA.

Marion was proceeded in death by husband, Martin (1988), and son, Dr. Mark D. Rakovan, D.O. (1987).

She is survived by sons, Martin R. Rakovan, Jr. and Michael A. Rakovan both of Brookville, three grandchildren Joshua, Jesse and Samantha, two great grandchildren Evie and Owen, brother Gary Kiser of Butler, PA and sister Marie (Kiser) Miley of Florida.

Andrew John “A.J.” Slye

Andrew John “A.J.” Slye, of Stafford County, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 27, at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in Memphis, TN.

Andrew was a 2012 graduate of North Stafford High School where he starred on the football team and served as captain. He attended Salisbury University, and was a member of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church.

Survivors include his parents, David P, and Laura B. Slye, his brother, Joseph “Joey”Slye; his paternal grandfather, John P. Slye; his maternal grandmother, Ruth Elaine Maul; aunt and uncles, Ellen Maul Haubrich, Bill Maul, and John Slye, and several cousins and other relatives.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 6, and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 7, at Covenant Funeral Service, Stafford.

A service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 8, at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church Cemetery.

Inez H. Fisher

Inez H. Fisher passed from this life to her eternal life march 4, 2014. Born on March 17, 1930, she was the daughter of Edwin O. and Helen Heckathorn Hughes. Inez married the love of her life, Howard L. Fisher, on June 25, 1949. He passed into Heaven on August 21, 2010 where they are now united. Inez and Howard had two children, Edwin F. Fisher, who was killed in action in Vietnam on April 17, 1971 and Cyndi F. Smith.

Inez graduated from Rocky Grove High School in 1948 after which she attended beauty school in New Castle. She worked as a beautician in Franklin until her marriage.

Inez was the perfect example of what God intended a wife and help meet to be. She was actively involved with her husband in Bon Air Farm, Howard Fisher Builder and serving with World Gospel Mission. Inez overcame her fear of flying to obtain her pilot’s license to share with Howard his joy of flying. She and Howard traveled extensively, both for pleasure and while serving God in missions. She especially enjoyed her visits with the Maasi in Kenya, Africa.

Inez was a gracious and generous hostess, opening her home and her heart to anyone who entered. She enjoyed quilting and painting with water colors as well as creating beautiful wreaths to give to all her neighbors. She was always active in church wherever she and Howard lived.

Inez is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cyndi and Jack Smith; four grandchildren Jodi (Rob) Hoover, Steve (Rachael) Smith, Charlie Smith and Sarah (Logan) Rink; and ten grandchildren, Keegan, Ethan, Ellie, Sam, Brandon, Paige, Camden, Parker, Isabelle and Charlie. Two sisters Edwina (Jim) Jacobs and June (Paul) Bell; brother-in-law Fred (Peggy) Fisher and many nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends will be received in the Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 312 W. Park St., Franklin from 3-7 p.m. Friday. There will be visitation from 1-2 p.m. Saturday in the Bethel United Methodist Church, 2656 State Route 417, Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Joseph P. Martin, pastor, officiating.

Interment will follow in the Bethel Cemetery.

Helen L. “Weezie” Riddle

Helen L. “Weezie” Riddle, 81, of 110 W Sixth St, Oil City, died at 3:12 pm, Monday, March 3, 2014, at her residence.

Born December 29, 1932 in Oil City, she was a daughter of the late Sneede W. and Ester G. Collingwood Mays.

Helen was a graduate of Cranberry High School.

She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. She loved her church and enjoyed singing in the choir.

Helen was a Certified Teacher’s Aide, working 20 years for the Oil City School District, retiring June 9, 1984.

Helen loved her family unconditionally and it was shown by the way she cared for all. When a special occasion occurred, holidays, birthdays or family and friends coming to the house, her hospitality was overwhelming. You would always be welcomed in with coffee and banana bread. You never left the house hungry.

Helen cooked food for anyone in need. She also helped with clothing donations.

On March 10, 1951 she married Frank L. Riddle, who survives.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Frank A. Riddle and wife Becky of Franklin, David M. Riddle and girlfriend Michelle Morgan of Oil City, and Jeffrey M. Riddle of Oil City; two daughters, Julie A. Dunn of Indiana PA, and Linda S. Spicer and husband Jason of Irvine; One granddaughter, Jessica Katsikaro of Greece and two great grandchildren, Lily Kate and Gus of Greece.
Also surviving are four sisters, Doris Kahle of Oil City, Jeannie Rhines of Florida, Betty Osborn of Union City, and Sandy Shope of Franklin; and two nieces, Dorothy Fink of North Carolina and Charlotte Shaffer of PA.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy M. Mays and a brother, Sneede T. Mays.

A Memorial Service will be held in Bethel United Methodist Church at 11 am Saturday.

Interment will be in Melat Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to AseraCare Hospice or Bethel United Methodist Church.

Thomas Manuel, Jr.

Thomas Manuel, Jr., 75, of West Sunbury, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot.

He was born April 10, 1938 in Butler, the son of the late Thomas Manuel, Sr.and Gwendolyn (List) Manuel.

Tom was a member of North Washington Presbyterian Church. He retired from Armco where he was an operator at Plant 2. Tom was a Veteran of the US Army. He enjoyed hunting and racing. Tom was a member of the American Legion Post #945.

Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Nina L. (Wolff) Manuel of West Sunbury; his children, Thomas A. (Sue) Manuel of West Sunbury, Timothy (Amy) Manuel of Renfrew, Todd Manuel of New Castle, Cheryl Morris of Butler, Kimberly (James) Pry of Monongahela, Cindy (Richard) Gruca of Kennesaw, GA and Michael (Amy) Manuel of Karns City; a number of grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; a sister, Esther McMonagle of Butler and a brother, David Manuel of West Sunbury.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Joshua Clark Manuel and a sister, Helen Tebay.

Friends will be received at Young Funeral Home, Ltd., 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, on Thursday, March 6, 2014 from 2-4 & 7-9PM.

Services will be held at God’s Country, 232 E.North Street, Butler, PA 16001, on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 11AM with Rev. Tom Holman officiating assisted by Chance Kelosky.

Jesse C. Caldwell

Jesse C. Caldwell, age 86, of New Bethlehem, died Tuesday morning, March 4, 2014 at the Brookville Hospital.

Born December 12, 1927 in Houston, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Arthur B. and Sara I. Fleming Caldwell.

He graduated from Lock Haven State College with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and earned his master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

Jesse was a World War II veteran. He was honorably discharged as a 3rd Class Petty Officer of the United States Coast Guard.

On August 5, 1952 in Ford City, he married the former Evelyn Sellner. After 45 years of marriage, she preceded him in death on February 19, 1997.

Jesse taught Social Studies and Drivers Education at the Redbank Valley High School. He retired in 1985 after 35 years of teaching and coaching golf, wrestling and football for the district.

He was a member of the New Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, the American Legion, Loyal Order of the Moose and the Elks clubs.

Jesse is survived by his four daughters: Kristi Eiswerth of Houston, Texas; Kim Smith of New Bethlehem; Kelcie Caldwell and Keri Ruiz, both of Tempe, Arizona; three grandchildren: Luke Snyder of Richmond, Virginia; Jessica Snyder of Mesa, Arizona and Michael Snyder of Chandler, Arizona.

He is also survived by two sisters: Coral Smith of Bloomington, Illinois and Grace Sizoo of Brea, California.

In addition to his parents and wife, Jesse was preceded in death by a newborn son, Randy Kirk Caldwell; a granddaughter, Katelyn Caldwell Snyder and a brother, The Reverend Mark Caldwell.

Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2014 at the Rupert Funeral Home and Cremation Service Chapel at 233 Penn Street, New Bethlehem.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the New Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, 403 Penn Street, New Bethlehem. Lay speaker and longtime family friend, Jeff Bartlett, will lead the service.

Interment will follow in the Concord Cemetery, West Sunbury.

Evelyn Stahlman Birocco 89 of St. Petersburg, FL formerly of Clarion, PA passed away onMarch 4, 2014.

She was born October 24, 1924 to Mildred McElhoes and Paige Stahlman of New Bethlehem, PA.

She was the loving mother of her three children Joseph Eric Birocco(wife Julie Sanfilippo) of St. Petersburg, FL, Cassandra Birocco(partner Teri Desrosiers) of Johnston, RI and Michael Alexis Birocco of Rimbersburg, PA., and loving grandmother of Joshua Eric Birocco(wife Tracy Krouse Birocco)and two great granddaughters Sophia and Luciana of Belfast, ME and big sister to William Keith Stahlman(wife Toni Stahlman) of New Bethlehem, PA.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 34 years Joseph Anthony Birocco, her parents and three siblings Joanne and Emmit “Butch” Stahlman and Norma Reichard.

Evelyn was a longstanding member and Elder at the Presbyterian Church of Clarion, PA. along with the Women’s Association and Circle One. She was also a member of Business and Professional Women, a longtime Cancer Society Volunteer and an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. For 37 years, Evelyn was the co-owner of Eccles Nurseries, Inc. in Rimersburg, PA.

A private immediate family memorial will be held at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Clarion.

Donations may be made in Evelyn’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, Suncoast Hospice of St. Petersburg, FL or the Clarion Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Robert H. Hall of West Palm Beach, Florida passed away January 29, 2014 at the age of 83.

Mr. Hall was a U.S. Air Force Veteran.

He will be lovingly remembered by his family, including his children, Diana Edwards, Kathy Goreczny (Tony), Steven Hall, Robert L. Hall, grandchildren, Angela, Anthony, Danielle, Zachary, Christina and James, great-grand-daughter, Elise.

Funeral Services will be held 12:30 PM Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Tillman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2170 S. Military Trail, West Palm Beach.

Burial with military honors will follow at South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth.

Paul E. Behringer, 78, of 1113 Russell Corners Rd. Pleasantville, PA. died at 7:40 P.M. Tuesday March 4, 2014 at his home following an extended illness.

Born Oct. 31, 1935 in Bradford, PA., he was the son of the late Edward L Behringer & Hazel A. Hughes Behringer.

Paul was a 1953 graduate of Oil City High School. He then went on to graduate with an Associates Degree from DeVry.

Mr. Behringer was a veteran of the United States Army

Paul was married in Chicago, IL. On Aug. 3, 1957 to the former Barbara E. Martin and she survives.

He had worked as a Field Engineer for IBM.

Paul was a member of the Titusville Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was a man of faith who loved his God, Jehovah. He was also a loyal follower of God’s Son, Jesus Christ, our reigning King and our redeemer.

Paul enjoyed fishing and hunting , and especially enjoyed hunting out west for elk and mule deer.

He is survived by two sons, Bruce Behringer of Cherrytree and David & Michele Behringer of Pleasantville.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Proper.

There will be no viewing or visitation.

A Memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 23526 Titusville Road, Titusville, PA. (Rt. 27) on March 15, 2014, at 3:30 P.M.

Mary Catherine “Cathy” Manion

Mary Catherine “Cathy” Manion, 68, of 58 Horne Lane, Oil City, PA. died March 4, 2014 at UPMC-Northwest in Seneca after an extended illness.

Born July 23, 1945 in Oil City, PA. , she was the daughter of the late Daniel F. Manion Jr. & Ruth Marie Dempsey Manion.

Cathy attended St. Stephen’s Grade School, St. Joseph’s High School and was a member of the first graduating class at Venango Christian High School in 1963.

Cathy received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from The Franciscan University of Steubenville in 1967 and her Masters in early childhood from the University of Pittsburgh in 1971.

She taught first grade in the North Allegheny School District for 6 ½ years and had taught for the Oil City School District for 27 years, retiring in 2002.

While at the Oil City School District, Cathy taught Schools at Lincoln, Siverly and Hasson Heights from where she retired from in 2002.

Cathy was a lifetime member of St. Stephen’s Church, where she served in the Servants of St. Stephen Ministry and was a lector, counter and a Eucharistic Minister.

She volunteered her time for the Oil City Arts Council, the Oil City Chamber of Commerce, the American Red Cross, Transit Fine Arts Gallery and for the St. Elizabeth Center.

She was a member of the Oil City Arts Council, and the Venango Musuem of Art, Science & Industry, the Red Hat Society and the Venango Chorus.

Cathy was also a member of Theta Phi Alpha Womens Sorority, the Alpha Zeta Chapter and National Catholics.

An animal lover, she enjoyed memberships in the ASPCA, World Wildlife Fund, the Humane Society of U.S. and the North Shore Animal League. Cathy loved her Boston Terriers.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Saturday in St. Stephen’s Church with Rev. Matthew Ruyechan, Pastor, Presiding.

Interment will be in Rynd Farm Cemetery.

Paul E. Ruffner, 79, of Rimersburg, PA, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital surrounded by his family.

He was born October 12, 1934 in Rimersburg, the son of Paul C. and Maxine (Carnahan) Ruffner.

Paul was a lifetime resident of Rimersburg and was a member of Baker Street Church of God. For 32 years he worked in the coal fields as a mechanic, most recently with C&K Coal Company, retiring in 1986. Hunting, fishing and playing golf were his favorite hobbies, and he was well-known for being a jokester. Paul’s family and friends will remember his wonderful sense of humor and how he always had something funny to say.

His memory will be cherished by his loving wife of 62 years, Ruby (Buzzard) Ruffner, whom he married August 11, 1951; son, Ed Ruffner and friend, Suzanne, of Rimersburg; brother, William Ruffner and wife, Linda, of DuBois; sisters, Patty Riggins, of Maryland, and Elaine Bish, of Myrtle Beach, SC; daughter-in-law, Sally Ruffner, of Templeton; step-grandchildren, Greg Hornberger and wife, BJ, of Templeton, and Aaron Kroh and wife, Andrea, of Hermitage; and six step-great-granddaughters.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bob Ruffner; and infant son, Sammy Ruffner.

Relatives and friends may visit from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at the Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 758 Main Street, Rimersburg, PA.

Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM at the funeral home on Friday, March 7, 2014, with the Rev. John A. Milliron officiating.

Burial will be in Rimersburg Cemetery, Rimersburg, PA.

James Herbert “Herbie” Clarke

1261711_profile_picJames Herbert “Herbie” Clarke, 62, of Strattanville, died Wednesday, March 5th in Limestone with his wife by his side. Born August 30 1951 in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Herbert and Shirley (Klody) Clarke.

His family eventually moved to the Sharon area where he grew up. After high school, Herb joined the Navy where he served in Mediterranean during the Vietnam War aboard a destroyer. Over the years, he worked at Sharon Steel, LEF&C Railroad, Karl’s Drilling, Delta Contractors and most recently, Specialized Treatment Services. Here he worked with troubled youth which he enjoyed very much until he became too ill to work.

He was married to the former Sandy Henry on January 21, 1978 and they made their home in Strattanville for over 30 years before recently moving to Limestone.

Herb graduated from Farrell High School in 1969 and as an adult he graduated from Clarion University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Rehab Sciences of which he was very proud. Throughout his life, Herb loved to play softball, hunt, coach girls’ softball, umpire baseball and softball games in the Clarion area, watch the Steelers and Pitt basketball.

He is now at peace, out of pain, and as Herb always said, “Who loves ya baby? Herbie does!”

Herb is survived by his wife, Sandy; daughters, Nikki of Sharon, Michelle and husband Robert of Georgia, and Kelly and her husband Bart of Lancaster. Also surviving are a sister, Gloria Montes of Illinois; brothers Tommy of Arizona, Michael of Colorado, and a step-brother, Albert of Michigan; and his mother-in-law, Mary Henry.

In addition to his parents, Herb was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Samuel Reeves Henry.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Clarion-Forest VNA. The family would also like to say a special thank you to Heather, his VNA nurse and all of the VNA personnel who helped with his care.

Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street, in Clarion where visitation will be held from 4-6 pm on Saturday, March 8. Funeral services will follow immediately at 6:00pm in the funeral home with Rev. Randy Evans, Clarion-Forest VNA Hospice Chaplain, presiding.

Adelaide M. (Addie) Sagan Sauerland

ed322a8e869a3d77Adelaide M. (Addie) Sagan Sauerland, 95, formerly of the Diamond area, died peacefully at 7:46 P.M. Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at Golden Living Center of Titusville where she has been a resident since March 26, 2012.

Mrs. Sauerland was born May 8, 1918 in Brooklyn, New York a daughter of the late Fred Steinert and Louise Schwarz Steinert. She married Albin J. Sagan June 14, 1936 in Long Island, New York. Mr. Sagan died October 2, 1983. Addie later married Gustav A.R. Sauerland December 30, 1989 in Titusville.

Mr. Sauerland died August 10, 1996. Addie worked with husband Albin as office manager for Sagan Tractor Sales from 1959 to 1973.

She was a member of St. Titus Church and Altar and Rosary Society, and Polish National Alliance of Titusville. Addie enjoyed knitting, crafting, traveling, crocheting, gardening, reading, doing crossword puzzles, picture puzzles and spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include five children, Katherine Wescoat and her husband Melvin of Titusville, Veronica Fabian and her husband Joseph of Virginia Beach, VA, Lorrie Iszkula and her husband Dave of Acworth, Georgia, James Sagan and his wife Diana of Cambridge Springs and Frederick Sagan and his wife Beverly of Cooperstown; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two step-sons, Gustav Sauerland of North Carolina and James Sauerland and his wife Ruth of Titusville; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by four grandchildren, a sister Louise Wieber and a brother Frederick Steinert.

A Christian Wake Service will be conducted at 1:45 P.M. Sunday at Leo N. Hennes Funeral Home, Inc., 203 E. Main St., Titusville, by Rev. Father Walter Packard, pastor for the Catholic Community of Titusville. Relatives and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. The Altar and Rosary Society will recite the rosary at 8:45 P.M.

A transfer service will be conducted Monday at 9:30 A.M. followed by the funeral mass at 10 A.M. at St. Titus Church with Father Packard, as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Catharine Cemetery.

OI114481898_CathyManion001Mary Catherine “Cathy” Manion, 68, of 58 Horne Lane, Oil City, PA. died March 4, 2014 at UPMC-Northwest in Seneca after an extended illness.

Born July 23, 1945 in Oil City, PA. , she was the daughter of the late Daniel F. Manion Jr. & Ruth Marie Dempsey Manion.

Cathy attended St. Stephen’s Grade School, St. Joseph’s High School and was a member of the first graduating class at Venango Christian High School in 1963.

Cathy received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from The Franciscan University of Steubenville in 1967 and her Masters in early childhood from the University of Pittsburgh in 1971.

She taught first grade in the North Allegheny School District for 6 ½ years and had taught for the Oil City School District for 27 years, retiring in 2002.

While at the Oil City School District, Cathy taught Schools at Lincoln, Siverly and Hasson Heights from where she retired from in 2002.

Cathy was a lifetime member of St. Stephen’s Church, where she served in the Servants of St. Stephen Ministry and was a lector, counter and a Eucharistic Minister.

She volunteered her time for the Oil City Arts Council, the Oil City Chamber of Commerce, the American Red Cross, Transit Fine Arts Gallery and for the St. Elizabeth Center.

She was a member of the Oil City Arts Council, and the Venango Musuem of Art, Science & Industry, the Red Hat Society and the Venango Chorus.

Cathy was also a member of Theta Phi Alpha Womens Sorority, the Alpha Zeta Chapter and National Catholics.

An animal lover, she enjoyed memberships in the ASPCA, World Wildlife Fund, the Humane Society of U.S. and the North Shore Animal League. Cathy loved her Boston Terriers.
