John Michael (Jay) Schmader

John Michael (Jay) Schmader, 64, of Lucinda, died early Saturday morning, March 22, 2014 at Clarion Hospital after a battle with cancer. Born January 22, 1950 in Brookville, he was the son of the late Jerome A. and Veronica Beers Schmader.

John was married to the former Alice Kaye on May 24, 1969 at St. Michael Church in Fryburg by Msg. Francis Theobald, and she survives.

John served in the U.S. Army. He worked for Oil Well Supply in Oil City and was a farmer.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by 2 sons and 2 daughters: Eli Schmader and his wife, Jamie of Strattanville, Simon Schmader and his wife, Jennifer of New Boston, Michigan, Debbie Neal of Oil City and Casey Schmader and Alan Belfield of Tionesta. He is also survived by 1 brother and 3 sisters: Jerome H. Schmader and his wife, Deloris of Lucinda, Joan Schwabenbauer and her husband, Arthur of Philadelphia, Janette Towner and her husband, LeRoy of Lucinda and Jill Siegel and Vince Ditz of Fryburg. He is survived by 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Schmader.

Friends and family will be received on Monday, March 24, 2014 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Borland Funeral Home, Inc. in Leeper. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 25, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in Lucinda with Rev. Joseph Czarkowski, pastor as celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the St. Joseph Church window fund.

Wanda L. Cooper, 75, of Sligo, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2014, at the UPMC Northwest Hospital in Seneca.

Born on April 8, 1938 in Heber Springs, Arkansas; she was the daughter of George Weeks and Daisy Liles Rainwater.

She was married on October 15, 1955 to Milburn L. Cooper, and he survives.

Wanda was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Alpha Assembly of God in Clarion. She was also a member of TOPS. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and game nights with her family.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by five children, Roger Cooper and his wife, Vicki, of Strattanville, LaVieta Lerch and her husband, Otis, of Sligo, Lisa Deemer and her husband, Bob, of Strattanville, Greg Cooper and his wife, Pat, of New Bethlehem, and Jeff Cooper and his wife, Betsy, of Strattanville; fourteen grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, Orville Rainwater, and a brother, George F. Weeks.

Family will receive friends from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, 638 Wood Street, Clarion, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at the Alpha Assembly of God, 499 Grand Avenue Ext, Clarion.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at the Alpha Assembly of God with Rev. David Selleck, Pastor Emeritus, officiating.

Interment will be held in the South Crossroads Cemetery in Heber Springs, Arkansas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Alpha Assembly of God, 499 Grand Avenue Ext, Clarion PA 16214; or to Heart for Uganda, PO Box 125, Clarion PA 16214.

Herbert Leroy Hindman, 91, of Route 66, Lucinda, formerly of Strattanville, died on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at the Jefferson Manor in Brookville.

Born November 11, 1922 in Union Township, Jefferson County; he was the son of the late Harry A. and Margaret (Lucas) Hindman.

A veteran of WWII, Herb served in the Army from 1943 to 1946.

He was married on October 6, 1951 to the former Lillian M. Kammerdiner, who preceded him in death on February 28, 1987. He then spent many years with his long-time companion, Betty Burchfield, who also preceded him in death on July 29, 2013.

His greatest love was for the Lord. He attended the Riverhill Evangelical Church in Clarion. He loved to go to Bible studies and to learn more about his Lord.

He was employed as a trucker driver for 12 years, worked in auto salvage for 38 years, where he worked for Chatman Auto Parts, Ridgeway Sellsburg Auto Wrecking, Himes Sales, and Sligo Auto Salvage, and then worked as a Walmart greeter for 13 years. His favorite hobby was greeting people.

Herb was a member of the Strattanville American Legion Post #0249 for 26 years.

Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Peggy A. Hummel; a grandson, Raymond D. Hummel and his wife, Tonya; a granddaughter, Tonya Rae Meier and her husband, Wade; eight great grandchildren, Amanda, Uri, Mercy, and Zane Hummel, Derek Schaffer, Corey Rainey, and Tyler and Aiden Meier.

Also surviving are three sisters, Betty Pierce, Mary Cook, and Nancy Neiswonger and her husband, Harry; the two children of the late Betty Burchfield, Beth Koziara and her husband, Larry and Victor “Pete” Burchfield and his wife, Carol; and five grandchildren, Bret, Brad, and Brian Burchfield, and Kurtis Koziara and his wife, Kera, and Kortnee Koziara; and four great grandchildren, Ryan, Braden, Justin, and Page; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; three brothers, Earl Hindman, Harold Hindman, and Ralph Hindman; a stepson, Raymond C. Hummel; a great granddaughter, Storm Rae Hummel.

Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, 638 Wood Street, Clarion, and from 10 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at the Riverhill Evangelical Church, 11133 Route 322, Shippenville.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at the Riverhill Evangelical Church in Shippenville with Pastor Terry Jacobs, pastor of the Riverhill Evangelical Church, and Pastor Randy Evans, Clarion Forest VNA Hospice Chaplain, co-officiating.

Interment will be held in the Cedarview Memorial Park in Strattanville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Riverhill Evangelical Church, 11133 Route 322, Shippenville PA 16254.

Robert J. “Bob” Brothers

Robert J. “Bob” Brothers, 75 of East Brady died Saturday March 22, 2014 at the VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler.

Born September 30, 1938 in East Brady, he was the son of Benjamin F. and Dorothy K. “Dude” (Jordan) Brothers.

On August 15, 1964 Bob married Deloris M. “Lori” Roth. She preceded him in death.

Bob was a veteran who served with the United States Marine Corp.

Bob was a custodian at East Brady High School then worked at Rex Hide Corp. in East Brady for 15 years until its closing. Bob and his brothers then formed the Brothers-Brother roofing company and were responsible for many new or repaired roofs in the East Brady area. Bob eventually retired from Koppers (Indespec) in Petrolia after 25 years of employment.

Bob was a 1958 graduate of East Brady High School where he excelled in varsity Basketball and Football. He was voted most athletic in his senior class. Bob enjoyed sporting events, casino trips, poker club at the Bradys Bend SOI, bowling, hunting, but most of all enjoyed the company of his grandchildren.

He is survived by 2 daughters Donna Lauer and husband Jerry of Parker and Traci Infantino and husband Richard of Sugarcreek Twp.
2 Brothers, Donald Brothers and wife Pat of Cleveland, TX and Charles Brothers and wife Pat of Rimersburg. 2 sisters, Janet Culton and husband Reed of Houston, TX and Barb Noullet and husband Jeff of Petrolia.
3 Granddaughters, Frankie (Ed) Olyha, Toni Infantino and Andi Infantino.
4 Grandsons, Colby Lauer, Michael (Sarah) Brothers, Brandon Lauer and Zak Infantino
5 Great Grandchildren, Abby Brothers, Ryleigh Brothers, Lorelai Olyha, Aidon Olyha, and Izzy Brothers.
Bob is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and his extended family at the Plaza Pantry Restaurant.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lori who died June 12, 1997, and 1 son Rob Brothers Jr. 2 Brothers Benjamin and John Brothers and 1 sister Ruth Stanford.

Friends of Robert J. “Bob” Brothers will be received 2-4, 6-8pm Tuesday March 25, 2014 at Buechele Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc. 707 Kellys Way, East Brady, PA 16028

Funeral Services will be held at 11am Wednesday March 26, 2014 at Buechele Funeral Home with the Rev. William Kuba of St. Eusebius Church celebrating.

Burial in St. Eusebius Cemetery will be private.

Cheryl Ann “Mom” Swartz, 61, a resident of #2 Monroe St., Franklin died peacefully at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014 in UPMC-Northwest in Seneca.

She was born November 29, 1952 in Erie, a beloved daughter of the late: John and Shirley Sanner.

R. Turner 1Ronald L. (Crud) Turner, 64, of Titusville , died peacefully at 2:50 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Corry Manor following a short illness.
Mr. Turner was born April 19, 1949 in Titusville a son of the late William Turner and Esther Hough Turner.

He graduated from Titusville High School in 1967 and later from New Castle Business College.

Crud was formerly employed with Hasbrouck Sand and Gravel and J.C. Lee Construction of Petrolia.

He was a member of BPOE Lodge 264 and Operating Engineers Union. Crud was also a social member of LOOM Lodge 64 and VFW Post 5958.

Crud enjoyed golfing and hunting.

Survivors include two daughters, Melanie Campbell and her husband Aaron and Stephanie Roberts and her husband Kevin, all of Titusville; three grandchildren, Bryce Campbell, Beckham Roberts and Parker Roberts; four brothers, Richard Turner and his wife Anne of Titusville, John Turner and his wife Esther of Titusville, Gerald (Jerry) Turner and his former wife Martha of Titusville and William ( Bill) Turner and his wife Sharon of Byers, Colorado; his best friend Rhonda Kalkbrenner of Titusville; and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends will be received Tuesday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Leo N. Hennes Funeral Home, Inc., 203 E. Main St., Titusville. BPOE Lodge 264 will conduct a memorial service at 6 p.m. followed by the funeral service with Pastor Philip Peters, officiating. Interment will be in Tubbs Cemetery.

William C. “Bill” Mathers

Member_132554, 84, of Oil City, died at 8:45 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Oakwood Heights in Oil City.

Born April 14, 1929 in White Plains, New York, he was the son of the late Hugh and Katherine McMackin Mathers.

Mr. Mathers served in the U.S. Army from 1951 until 1953, during the Korean War. He was a recipient of the Korean Service Medal with three bronze stars and attained the rank of Corporal.

Bill was a former member of the Franklin Club, and was a volunteer with the Cranberry Area Food Pantry.

He was a member of the Seneca United Methodist Church.

Bill enjoyed NASCAR Racing, watching the New York Jets football team, and spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Mathers was employed as a manager in the chemical division for Georgia Pacific and worked in New York and New Jersey.

He was married in the Seneca United Methodist Church on June 30, 1990 to the former Peggy L. (Shotts) Craig, and she survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Billy Mathers of Philadelphia, Edward Mathers and his wife Lisa, and Richard Mathers, all of Washington, D.C.; his step-children, Cindy Lewis and husband Larry of Knox, Karen Stanton and Janice Lillard, both of Florida, Mary Walentosky and her husband Mike of Oil City, and Richard Craig, Jr. and his wife Ann of Wyoming. Eighteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two former wives, Margaret Mathers and Ann Mathers; a son, Robert Mathers; two brothers, John and Frank Mathers; and a sister, Margaret Mathers.

A memorial service will be held and those details will be announced at a later date.

Interment will be in Pound Ridge, New York.

Visitation will be held Thursday (March 27th) from noon – 3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. in Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc., 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca.

A funeral service will be held Friday (March 29th) in the funeral home at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Pete Knight, associate pastor of Grace United Methodist Church in Oil City, officiating. Interment with full military honors accorded by the VETS Honor Guard will follow in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens, Cranberry.

Philip A. Farrell, 72, of Townville, passed away at home surrounded by his family, Monday, March 24, 2014 following a long battle with cancer.

He was born June 12, 1941 in Jamestown, NY a son of Maxwell Warren and Joanne Phyllis Faraone Farrell.

He married Mary Ann Anderson June 27, 1963 in England at R.A.F. Mildenhall and she survives. He was a 1959 graduate of North Clarion High School and was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Air Force in the U.S. and England from 1962-1967.

He worked at Avtex from 1967-1984, then as a self-employed carpenter until 1988 and then at Greendale Cemetery from 1988 until 2013. He was an avid woodworker, a great mechanic and a perfectionist, never quite satisfied until it was done correctly. He was a good man, loved and respected by all who knew him.

His family was his top priority and he enjoyed spending time with them and camping with his grandchildren.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Mary Ann of 50 years, include: two daughters, Shawn Marsh of Titusville and Monica Smith and her husband Thomas of Guys Mills; a son, Phillip Farrell and his girlfriend, Melissa Leonhart of Townville; six grandchildren, Ryan Marsh, Jacob Marsh, Jessica Norman and her husband Michael, Brandon Smith, Chelsey Smith and Austin Smith; a great grandson, Brayden Feltenberger; a very close uncle, Bine Faraone of Newmansville, PA; three brothers, Frank “Sonny” Farrell and his wife Cathy of Patterson, NY, Ron “Moose” Farrell of Albuquerque, NM and Jim Farrell and his wife Shirley of Wilmington, NC and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Louie Farrell and a sister, Darlene Harrison. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.

The funeral service will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Timothy Solomon, Pastor of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, officiating and military honors provided by Huidekoper VFW Post #2006.

Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the Hillman Cancer Center, 5115 Centre Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15232.

Gerald “Butch” Thomas Bucholz, Sr.

Born March 10, 1935, in Rouseville, Butch was the son of the late Albert August and Mildred Dorothy Coshnitzke Bucholz. He was a 1945 graduate of DePaul Institute for the Deaf in Pittsburgh.

Butch worked at Joy Mining for 30 years in Maintenance, retiring in April of 2000. He was an active member of the Congress Hill Church of God. He devoted much time to the Church and enjoyed joking and spending time with his Church family.

Butch also enjoyed playing cards, various games, and having morning coffee with his family and friends, keeping a routine of mowing and yard work, and many different wood-working projects.

Butch first married LaDonna Irwin on September 27, 1958 in Rouseville. They have four children, Perry Bucholz of Plumer, Patrick Bucholz and his wife, Jackie, of Franklin, Gerald Bucholz and his girlfriend, Sue Love, of Rouseville, and Amanda Andres and her husband, Robert, of Oil City. Also surviving are his 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, and 4 great-step-grandchildren.

He later married Karen A. Stone on June 10, 1976, and she preceded him in death on December 5, 2001.

Butch is also survived by his brother, Jerome Bucholz of Orchard Park, NY; and his 2 sisters, Alberta Wojtowicz of Oil City, and Carol Pineau of Erie.

He was preceded in death by his parent; an infant sister and brother, Rosella and Robert; his 2 brothers, James and Donald; and his sister, Mary.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29 at the Congress Hill Church of God, with Rev. Johnny Pennington, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Rynd Farm Cemetery.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Congress Hill Church of God, 406 Congress Hill Road, Franklin, PA 16323.

Frank L. Phillips, 90, of Clarion, died on Sunday, March 23, 2014, at his home surrounded by his daughters.

Born on June 26, 1923 in New Bethlehem; he was the son of Leo and Anna Cherico Phillips.

Frank was married on June 3, 1948 to the former Lena C. Cimino, who preceded him in death on March 20, 2013.

He attended the Immaculate Conception School.

A veteran, he served in the Army during WWII.

Frank was the former owner of the Phillips Fruit Market with his wife.

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Clarion. He was also a member of VFW Post #2145 of Clarion.

Frank enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed singing, telling Army stories, and working at the fruit market.

He is survived by five children, Anna Jo Basinger and her husband, Clyde, of Warren, Ohio; Linda Kay Zacherl of Senoia, Georgia; Rose Muse and her husband, Greg, of Fayetteville, Georgia; Carol Shultz and her husband, Don, of Clarion; and Lorie Thomas of Boardman, Ohio; nine grandchildren; and twenty-two great grandchildren.

Also surviving are three sisters, Josephine Loretta of Fairmont, West Virginia, Anna Selker of Pittsburgh, and Mary Jane Gardina and her husband, Joe, of Clarion; numerous nieces and nephews; and special caregiver, Kathy McGrady.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a sister, Nora Demarco, and a brother, Dominic Phillips.

Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, 638 Wood Street, Clarion.

Wake services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, in the funeral home.

Military honors will be accorded at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2014, in the funeral home by American Legion Post #66 of Clarion.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2014, in the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion with Rev. Monty Sayers, pastor of the Immaculate Conception Church, presiding.

Interment will be held in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery.

Helen M. Carson 86, of Clarion, died early Monday morning, March 24, 2014 at the McKinley Health Center in Brookville.

She was born on November 5, 1927 in Pottstown and was a daughter of Andrew and Mary (DeZura) Potpinko. She was married on October 27, 1956 to Benjamin F. Carson and he preceded her in death on December 22, 2002.

Helen worked as a telephone operator for Bell of Pennsylvania. She belonged to the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion.

She is survived by a daughter, Mary L. Faulk and her husband Eric of Clarion, two granddaughters, Dr. Lauren E. Faulk of Ann Arbor, Michigan and Mrs. Brandon (Erin L.) Haburjak of Pittsburgh, and one sister, Anne Rudzenski of Pottstown.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Helen was also preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Kotch and two brothers, Paul Potpinko and Andrew Potpinko, Jr.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 27, at 11:00 am at the Whitemarsh Memorial Park in Ambler, Pa.

The daughter of Albert M. “Casey” and Evelyn (Hindman) Fleming, Sandy was born on November 25, 1943 in Clarion.

On a sunny day, you would find Sandy planting her flowers, tending her garden, or repurposing collectables in her home. Sandy and her husband Sid vacationed yearly in Myrtle Beach, ultimately her favorite place to be. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially antiquing with her daughters. Sandy’s charity of choice has always been St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, and donations are welcomed (www.stjude.org).

In addition to her husband, Sid Rak, she is survived by her three children, Shaughn and Bill Wolbert, Trey and Sally Hetrick, and Tera Rak; and her beloved three grandchildren, Jared, Alyssa and Jacob Wolbert.

She is also survived by her sister, Cheryl and husband, Bill Cheek of Tennessee, her brother Dan and wife, Neva Fleming of Clarion, Pa. and her brother-in-law, Thom Doran of Arizona.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents and her older sister, Karen Doran.

Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street in Clarion where memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 29th, at 11 am. All friends and family are welcome to attend.

Earnest E. “Earnie” Deal

In the early morning hours of Monday, March 24, 2014, Earnest E. “Earnie” Deal, 68, of Oil City, was received into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father.

Born at home on April 26, 1945 in Borden Mines, Maryland, he was a son of the late James and Viola Winebrenner Deal.

He graduated from Beall High School in 1963 and served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam War, earning the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. After leaving the Army, Earnie attended Allegheny Community College and graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 1975.

Earnie worked his entire life as a funeral director. He began his career in Erie, PA, at John J. Quinn Funeral Home, where he worked for nine years. In 2012, he retired from Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home in Chambersburg, PA, after 27 years of service.

He began attending the Frostburg Church of the Nazarene as a youth but did not come to know the Lord personally until his dad started attending and was saved. Earnie’s life was guided by his faith in Jesus Christ. Feeling a call to the ministry, he had considered becoming a pastor, but was lead to the profession of funeral director, which he considered his ministry.

He was a member of the Oil City Community Alliance Church.

He was a loving husband, a devoted father, an always willing to help neighbor, a mentor to many young funeral directors, and a proud Grand Pap. A cross-country runner while in high school, Earnie enjoyed attending class reunions and recently celebrated his 50th. He was a fan of all Penn State sports and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

On June 3, 1972, he married Mary Ann Marley who survives.

In addition to his wife, Earnie is survived by two sons, Matthew Deal and his wife Rebekah of Oil City, and Michael Deal and his wife Teri of Munhall; and five grandchildren, Benji Deal of Munhall, Madeleine Deal of Oil City, and Brooke, Bryce, and Taylor Gart of Oil City.

Also surviving are a sister, Juanita Heavner of Bunker Hill, WV; two brothers, David Deal and his wife Mary of Manchester, MD, and Harold Deal of Chambersburg, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Earnie was preceded in death by two brothers, James Deal and Eugene Deal; and a brother-in-law, Lane Heavner.

Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home, 110 Petroleum Street, Oil City, PA on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and at the Sowers Funeral Home, 60 W Main Street, Frostburg, MD on Thursday, March 27, 2014, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

A prayer service will be held on Wednesday at the Morrison Funeral Home following visitation.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday at the Frostburg Church of the Nazarene 150 Center St. with Rev. Jerry Breedlove, Jr. and Rev. Galen Winebrenner officiating.

Burial will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park.

William (Bill) Earl McKinley

William (Bill) Earl McKinley of Oil City passed away at 9:13 am Monday, March 24, 2014, at his residence.

Bill was born on June 10, 1940, at the Clarion County Jail. He enjoyed telling the story that his grandfather was the Sheriff at the time of his birth and his parents, the late Earl E. and Dorothy L. Callen McKinley, resided in a family apartment in the jail.

He just celebrated forty-nine (49) years of marriage on March 14, to Nancy A. Sigworth, who survives.

Bill attended Clarion and Oil City Area Schools, Edinboro University, the University of Virginia Darden Graduate School and the University of Oklahoma, Price Graduate School.

Bill retired from Integra Financial Corporation, successor to Pennsylvania Bank & Trust Company. He worked in Warren, Titusville, Erie and the last fifteen (15) years in Pittsburgh. He held various positions throughout his thirty eight (38) year banking career including Vice President and Senior Credit Review Officer.

Bill held several Certifications while working including Certified Commercial Lender and Certified Management Accountant.

He taught many banking courses and was a featured speaker throughout Central Eastern United States and California as well as a lecturer at the University of Virginia Darden Graduate School.

Bill was especially proud of spending over thirty years involved with the Institute of Management Accountants serving in many capacities on a local, regional and international level.

At the time of Bill’s passing, he served on the Board of Directors of the Northwest Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission, as well as being a member of several Commission Committees, and was a past member of the Board of Directors of the Regional Counseling Center, Inc.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a nephew, C. Scott Moon and wife Wendy, of Oil City; a niece Kimberly K. Moore and husband, Todd, of Colorado; two great nieces, Emily and Carrie Moore; and a great nephew, C. Michael Moon.

In addition, a special cousin, John Jay Callen, who Bill assisted in raising and considered as a son, resides in Georgia along with his wife, Natalie.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a dear sister, D. Jean Moon.

In accordance with Bill’s final wishes, his body will be cremated and there will be no visitation or services. Bill wanted his family and friends to remember him as they knew him in life.

Skarada PhotoEva P. Skarada, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA, Hollywood, FL, and Clarion, PA, passed away on March 25, 2014 at the Jefferson Manor in Brookville. She was 94 years old.

Born on January 6, 1920 in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Anna Patrick. She was married to William Skarada who has also preceded her in death. Eva was a homemaker.

Eva is survived by her sons, William R. Skarada, and Robert D. Skarada (Kyle); her daughters, Carol S. Ferguson, and Nancy S. Dean (Kit); ten grandchildren, and 8 great-grandsons.

In addition to her parents and husband, Eva was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.

At her request, services will be private.

Henry John Gates 99 of 108 Spruce St. Oil City, PA died at 4:45 P.M. Tuesday March 25, 2014 at Sugar Creek Station after a period of declining health.

Born in Oil City, PA on Feb. 1, 1915 son of the late George and Anna Burden Gates.

Mr. Gates attended Oil City Area Schools.

He had been employed by the Pennsylvania, Penn Central and Conrail Railroads for 35 years and was a member of the Transit Workers Union of the AFL-CIO.

Mr. Gates was the oldest member of St. Joseph Church in Oil City.

He had been a member of the Penna. National Guard.

Mr. Gates also enjoyed bowling and hunting and was a Penguins and Steelers fan.

Henry was married in St. Joseph Church on April 13, 1940 to the former Veronica ( Vera ) Megic, by the late Fr. P. A. Lynch and she survives along with three children…

There will be a private funeral service at the Reinsel Funeral Home & Crematory , Fr. Justin P. Pino ,Pastor of St. Joseph Church will preside. Entombment will follow in the Bishop McManaman Memorial Mausoleum.

James Sheridan Krug, age 81, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at the Reading Hospital on Monday, March 24th, 2014, following a valiant struggle with cancer.

Born in Oil City, PA on May 18th, 1932, he was the son of Ralph and Katherine Krug. He was a graduate of Oil City High School, class of 1950, and a graduate of Penn State University, majoring in Hotel and Restaurant Administration. His career in Food Service included owning his own restaurants, managing hotel, motel, and country club dining room services, and serving as an instructor in Food Service at the Venango County Area Vocational Technical School. He served in the United States Army from 1954-1956.

He was the loving husband of Ruth Ann (Schaeffer) for 57 years and was a wonderful father and PaPa to his three children and five grandchildren. He lived the majority of his life in the Oil City area and had many fond memories. After retirement, he and Ruth Ann relocated to her hometown of Fleetwood, PA. and then to The Heritage of Green Hills.

He always loved music and enjoyed participating in the Muhlenberg Community Chorus, the Encore Chorus, and the Wyomissing Band. In addition to music, his hobbies included fishing and hunting, reading, woodworking, and travel. He also liked football, especially the Nittany Lions and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a past member of the First Presbyterian Church in Oil City, and the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Fleetwood. He will be best remembered for his integrity, love of family, friends, and country, and his sense of humor.

He is survived by his loving wife Ruth Ann, his children Kathy (Brinton), Karolyn (Greg), and Jonathan (Penny) and his grandchildren Jaelene, Jonathan, Tyler, Michael, and Susan, his brother David, his cousin Bob Reynolds, many nieces, nephews, and friends. He will also be sadly missed by his two feline companions, Kitty Girl and Topaz.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 28th, at the Mae Stump Funeral Home (www.maestumpfuneralhome.com) in Fleetwood at 11 AM. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 9 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be at the Fleetwood Cemetery.
