Connell D. Switzer

Connell D. Switzer, age 76, of Rimersburg, PA, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014 at his residence.

He was born in Clarion, PA on June 29, 1937, the son of George A. and Faye L. (Manson) Switzer.

Connell lived in the Rimersburg area all of his life and honorably served in the US Army Reserves 458th Combat Engineer Unit. He married Ruth Ann Byers August 24, 1965 and they were married 19 years until her passing in January 4, 1985. He then married Judy M. Smith on May 31, 1997 and they shared 17 years together. Connell was a hard worker with a strong work ethic and was employed for the Owens Brockway Glass Co. in Clarion for 36 years prior to his retirement in 1993.He was a member of the Baker Street Church of God.

Connell loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening but was happiest when spending time with his family. He will be best remembered as an extraordinary person, and for being a good husband and father.

He is survived by his wife, Judy M. (Smith) Switzer; sons, Steven T. Switzer and his wife, Crissy of Lewisberry, PA and Keith A. Switzer of Anderson, IN; daughter, Debbie D. Switzer of Anderson, IN; one granddaughter, Stephanie Ann Switzer; a brother, Paul E. Switzer and his wife, Janet of Sligo; a brother-in-law, Wayne Walters of New Castle; four stepsons, Jason Smith and his wife, Jerilynn, Scott Smith and his wife, Tressa, Weston Smith and his wife, Janet, and Dustin Smith and his wife, Lacey, all of Rimersburg; eight step grandchildren, Torrie Smith, Travis Smith, Taylor Smith, Serria Smith, Hayden Smith, Whitney Smith, Nevaeh Smith, and Titan Smith; and one step great-granddaughter, Ava Pearl Swartfager.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ruth Ann (Byers) Switzer; two daughters, Christine L. Switzer and Patty A. Switzer; and sister, Betty Walters.

Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 and Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 758 Main St., Rimersburg.

Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at the Baker Street Church of God, 160 Veteran Street, Rimersburg, with his Pastor, the Reverend John Milliron officiating. Full military honors will be presented at the church following services by the Rimersburg VFW Post #7132 and American Legion Post #454.

Burial will be in Rimersburg Cemetery, Rimersburg, Pennsylvania.
