Florence L. Smith, 96, formerly of Pittsville and Cranberry, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 22, 2013, at The Caring Place in Franklin.
Born December 14, 1916 in Rockland, she was a daughter of the late Charles C. and Erma Martz Coast Findlay.
Mrs. Smith attended public school in Rockland.
She enjoyed crocheting and quilting.
Mrs. Smith was employed with Eakin’s & Novelty, Shirley’s Restaurant, but most of her life she was a wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
On August 22,1940 she married John W. Smith, who preceded her in death on April 16, 1988.
Mrs. Smith is survived by a son, Donald C. (Duck) Smith of Seneca, and close friend Karen Griffith, and a daughter, Donna A. (Pinch) and husband Larry Stefanini of Cranberry; six grandchildren, Scott A. and wife Dr. Abby Smith of Roanoke, VA, John C. Smith and wife Penny of Clay, NY, Stacie D. Stocker of Phoenix, AZ, Brian T. Smith and wife Autumn of Franklin, PA, Charles C. Stefanini and wife Anne of Corning, NY, and Christine C. Shumaker and husband Ron of Seneca, PA; and fourteen great-grandchildren, Cory, Hayden and Tanner Smith of Roanoke, VA, Ashley and John Tyler Smith of Clay, NY, Bailey and Michael Stocker and Dakota DuVaul of Phoenix, AZ, Kaila and Camryn Stefanini of Corning, NY, Jadyn and Zachary Shumaker of Seneca, PA, and Samantha and Barrett Smith of Franklin, PA.
She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Irene Findlay of Meadville, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by a son Robert C. Smith, daughter-in-law Judith A. Smith, a granddaughter Suzanne Smith; 5 sisters, Etta Coast, Mrs. Dewey (Minnie) McCord, Mrs. Earl (Hattie) Davison, Mrs. Charles (Goldie) Tarr, Leafy Violet Findlay; and 2 brothers, Freddie Coast, and Clifford Findlay.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, August 23, 2013 and Saturday, August 24, 2013 from noon until 1:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Oil City, PA.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home with the Rev. Linda Deeter, officiating
Interment will be in Rockland Cemetery.
