Glenn W. Rhines

Glenn W. Rhines, 66, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Saturday November 23rd, 2013 in Kissimmee, FL.

Glenn was born August 13, 1947 in Oil City, PA, son of Ray and Ruth Rhines. He was raised in Franklin, PA which Glenn always considered his home, and where he met his wife, Darla (Jeanne) of 48 years. They later moved to Cranberry Twp and Sewickley, PA where he had a long and successful career at Pitt-Des Moines Steel Co. traveling throughout the U.S. He was grateful for the many long and close friendships he developed while at PDM.

Glenn was a former active member in the Franklin Jaycees (served as a past President) and the Franklin Elks. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman and was a long time member of the Izaac Walton Club. Glenn also enjoyed golfing, collecting wine and sports memorabilia, especially for the Steelers and Penguins. He was a history buff and enjoyed following politics closely. After retirement Glenn and Jeanne enjoyed spending summers at their cottage on the Allegany River near Tionesta, PA and winters at their home in Kissimmee, FL. Glenn’s biggest enjoyment later in life was spending time with his six grandchildren.

Proceeding in death are his father Ray E. Rhines; mother Ruth N. Rhines; brother Gene E. Rhines, sister Mary I. Rhines Rarer and brother-in-law Robert Banister.

Glenn is survived by his wife Darla (Jeanne) of Kissimmee, FL; daughter Jessica and her husband Tom Sardinia and their two children Nicholas, 10 and Callista, 7 of Orlando, FL; son Glenn Jr, and his wife Nancy and their two children Eric, 12 and Nina, 11 of New Providence, NJ; son Brian and his wife Jane and their two children Emma, 10 and Raymond, 8. He is also survived by his sister Lyril J. Banister of Cumming, GA and his brother Neil R. Rhines and wife Twila of Franklin, PA, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 7 at 11:30 am at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 1145 Buffalo St, Franklin, PA.

A reception will follow in the church hall.
