Shirley M. Winger

Shirley M. Winger 82, of 126 High St. Oil City, died at 4:57 p.m. Friday December 6, 2013 at UPMC-Northwest in Seneca.

Born January 21, 1931 in Vanderfrift, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Wayne & Hazel Shook McAninch.

Shirley was a 1951 graduate of the Oil City School of Nursing.

On November 3, 1951 she married John Henry Winger in Our Lady Help of Christians Church and he preceded her in death on Oct. 13, 2001.

Shirley had worked as a nurse at the Oil City Hospital for many years.

She was a member of Our Lady help of Christians Church and a member of the Oil City Hospital Nursing Alumni Association.

She enjoyed reading, trivia, teaching her children and grandchildren about geography and history and watching her soap operas.

Shirley also enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

She is survived by 6 children: Shirley Jeanette Schostarez & her husband Henry of Portage, MI, Jill Arlene McCauley and her husband Dennis of Fertigs, Mark David Winger and his wife Yvonne of Cambridge Springs, June E. Winger of Oil City, Jacqueline A. Wommer of Oil City and Gary G. Winger & his wife Amy of Knox.

She is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Jessie Rice, Brian Schostarez, Sarah Schostarez, Alicia Spencer and Allison Winger, and one great granddaughter: Taylor Spencer.

She is also survived by her brother, George E. McAninch and his wife Lois of Issaquah, Washington.

She was preceded in death by a son –in-law Lewis Wommer, a sister-in-law Clarice “Sue” Farren and special friends Helen Stahlman and Mary Meddock.

Friends will be received from 11 – 11:45 a.m. Tuesday morning in the Reinsel Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Noon in Our Lady Help of Christians Church with Fr. Shane Mathew, Pastor, Presiding.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Oil City Library, the Venango County Humane Societry or to the Kirtland Cancer Foundation.
