Ralph Edward Myers, age 93, of Knox, died Sunday evening, December 8, 2013 at his home, following a lengthy illness.
Born May 10, 1920 in Texas, he was a son of the late Edward and Florence Mong Myers.
Ralph was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Air Force. He served as a crew chief and worked on B-24 Liberators and was stationed in Brazil and Rome, Italy.
He married the former Hazel L. Theiss on November 21, 1942 and the couple celebrated their 60th anniversary in 2002 by renewing their wedding vows.
Hazel preceded him in death on August 13, 2003.
Following the war, Ralph was employed by Quaker State Oil Refinery in Emlenton. In his 42 years of service to the company he held the roles of Maintenance Supervisor, Safety Director and Fire Marshal. He retired from Quaker State in 1989.
Ralph was a member of the Mt. Joy United Methodist Church in Knox and was an avid hunter well into his late 80’s. He also enjoyed yard work.
He will be remembered by all who knew him for his strong work ethic.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Myers and his wife, Patricia, of Smethport and Bradley Myers and his wife, Karen, of Kearney, MO; two daughters: Mary Ellen Hall and her husband, Joseph, of Leeper and Connie Long of Emlenton.
He is also survived by nine grandsons: Rodney Deloe, Tad Myers, Clint Myers, Eddie Hall, Steven Myers, Charles Planker, David Long, Kevin Long and Michael Long; six granddaughters: Kami Krantz, Marie Kennedy, Katie Planker, Jennifer Olmstead, Rachel Myers and Jessica Myers.
In addition to his parents and wife, Ralph was preceded in death by two daughters: Sylvia Deloe and Suzanne Planker; two brothers: Robert Myers and Earl Myers; two sisters: Ruth Fleming and Martha Tagliabues and a son-in-law, William Long.
Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2013 and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, December 12, 2013 at the William N. Rupert Mortuary, Inc., 430 Mendenhall Avenue, Knox.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 13, 2013 at the Mt. Joy United Methodist Church, 159 Mt. Joy Road, Knox. The Reverend Dan Myers, pastor at Mt. Joy, will officiate over the service.
Military honors will be accorded at 11 a.m. Friday in the church by the Berlin-Bowser American Legion Post #720 of Knox.
Interment will follow in the Mt. Joy Cemetery.
