Robert L. Harkless, 88, of Sligo, passed away Friday, July 19, 2013 at the Clarion Hospital.
Born June 1, 1925, in Callensburg, Bob was the son of Rowland C. Harkless and Welthy A. Baker Harkless.
Bob was married to Doris Haines Harkless, who preceded him in death in 1995.
After high school, Bob served in the Army. After returning, he worked for US Coragated Steel.
Bob was a member of the Canby Masonic Lodge 520 in St. Petersburg for over 50 years, and a member of the American Legion Post in Clarion. He loved playing the mandolin and the guitar and was an avid hunter and fly fisherman who enjoyed tying his own flies. Bob was an avid reader and loved watching the Pirates and the Steelers. He and his wife had a strong affection for their dogs and Bob had a deep love for the land he grew up on.
Bob is survived by a sister-in-law Rebecca Harkless of Callensburg, his niece Jane (Blake) Reed of Parker, his niece Kim (Dan) Myers of West Freedom , his nephew Craig Harkless of Essex, Mass, his nephew James (Mary) Harkless of Corsica, his niece Regina (Larry) Bowser of Callensburg, his niece Sheryl Dunstan of Allentown, and various other nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents and wife Bob was preceded in death by his two brothers James Harkless and Clair Harkless.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the McEntire-Weaver Funeral Home, Inc., 504 E. Penn St., Knox.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with the Rev. Ken Hughes, officiating. Clarion American Legion Post 66 will perform military honors.
Interment will follow in Callensburg Cemetery in Callensburg.
