Jesse C. Caldwell

Jesse C. Caldwell, age 86, of New Bethlehem, died Tuesday morning, March 4, 2014 at the Brookville Hospital.

Born December 12, 1927 in Houston, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Arthur B. and Sara I. Fleming Caldwell.

He graduated from Lock Haven State College with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and earned his master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

Jesse was a World War II veteran. He was honorably discharged as a 3rd Class Petty Officer of the United States Coast Guard.

On August 5, 1952 in Ford City, he married the former Evelyn Sellner. After 45 years of marriage, she preceded him in death on February 19, 1997.

Jesse taught Social Studies and Drivers Education at the Redbank Valley High School. He retired in 1985 after 35 years of teaching and coaching golf, wrestling and football for the district.

He was a member of the New Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, the American Legion, Loyal Order of the Moose and the Elks clubs.

Jesse is survived by his four daughters: Kristi Eiswerth of Houston, Texas; Kim Smith of New Bethlehem; Kelcie Caldwell and Keri Ruiz, both of Tempe, Arizona; three grandchildren: Luke Snyder of Richmond, Virginia; Jessica Snyder of Mesa, Arizona and Michael Snyder of Chandler, Arizona.

He is also survived by two sisters: Coral Smith of Bloomington, Illinois and Grace Sizoo of Brea, California.

In addition to his parents and wife, Jesse was preceded in death by a newborn son, Randy Kirk Caldwell; a granddaughter, Katelyn Caldwell Snyder and a brother, The Reverend Mark Caldwell.

Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2014 at the Rupert Funeral Home and Cremation Service Chapel at 233 Penn Street, New Bethlehem.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the New Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, 403 Penn Street, New Bethlehem. Lay speaker and longtime family friend, Jeff Bartlett, will lead the service.

Interment will follow in the Concord Cemetery, West Sunbury.
