Janet Faye Shoup Grove

Janet Faye (Shoup) Grove, 66, of Manor Drive, Grove City, Pine Township, Mercer County, passed away at home Thursday evening, March 13, 2014 in the arms of her loving husband, Dale, following a brief illness.

In accordance with Janet’s final wishes, a private funeral service officiated by the Rev. Daniel R. Myers, pastor of St. Petersburg United Methodist Church, was held on Sunday afternoon at the Hile Funeral Home Inc. in St. Petersburg. Following the service interment took place at St. Petersburg Cemetery.

Janet was born in St. Petersburg, Clarion County, on November 15, 1947. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence L. and Ethel Ketner Shoup.

Janet was a 1965 honor graduate of Emlenton High School in the Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Clarion University in 1969 where she was a member of Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society. Janet went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education in 1971 from Clarion University. Janet was employed as an elementary teacher in the Valley Grove School District at Franklin and taught at Rocky Grove Elementary from 1969 – 1976. She loved her teaching days and enjoyed many wonderful memories of her students and co-workers.

On December 20, 1975 Janet married Dale R. Grove at the Saint Petersburg United Methodist Church, and the couple shared 38 years of married life and resided in the Grove City Area.

Janet enjoyed being a homemaker and loved vegetable gardening and flowers, canning, freezing, baking, and lawn care. She was an active church member and enjoyed participating in the women’s group with mission projects and serving in various offices. She was the church pianist and choir accompanist at Center Presbyterian Church in Grove City for many years. From the seventh grade through college Janet was the pianist for Sunday School and church at the St. Petersburg United Methodist Church.

Janet is survived by her beloved husband, Dale R.Grove; five siblings, Betty M. Weeter of Clarion; Lawrence Richard Shoup and his wife, Darla, of Shippenville, Robert K. Shoup and his wife, Marilyn, of Butler, Kenneth R. Shoup and his wife, Peggy, of Grove City, and Ronald E. Shoup and his wife, Alice, of Oil City; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Dave Fitzgerald of Grove City, as well as many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and two great great nephews.

It was Janet’s request that any memorial donations be used to benefit children, whether it be by buying clothing, taking children out to lunch, or contributing to any cause that serves to benefit children.
