The family later moved to Shippenville where her father ran a flour mill just east of present day Wingard’s Farm Market. The family moved again a few years later when her father built a new home and a wood working shop at the east end of Shippenville.

Kathryn was educated in the Shippenville Schools and graduated from Shippenville High School in 1937. She graduated from Clarion State Teachers College in 1941 with a degree in education. She was hired by Shippenville School District to team-teach with Bernice Goble. They taught the 4th, 5th, & 6th grades in the elementary building that no longer stands. After 4 years she moved to Indiana, Pa and taught 4th grade there for one year before her marriage.

She married George F. Lauffer in June 1946. He was a business education teacher at Shippenville High School. When Keystone School District was formed and Shippenville High School was closed, Kathryn and George moved to Knox. George taught at the new high school and Kathryn taught 6th grade at the White Memorial building till her retirement in 1976. George passed away in February, 1975.

Kathryn was member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Shippenville from childhood till moving to Knox in 1955, when she became a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Knox where she served on church council, taught Sunday School and was president of the Church’s Women’s organization. When Emmanuel Lutheran closed, she again became a member of the Shippenville Lutheran Church which had since become Holy Trinity, and remained a member till her death.

She was a loyal supporter of many charities, both local and national. She was a very caring person. When her parents became elderly, she invited them into her home and cared for them till their passing. She later did the same for Aunt Kathryn Klinger, her mother’s sister. When her brother Paul became ill she moved him into her home and cared for him till his death.

Kathryn was an avid reader and enjoyed games that were thought provoking. Crossword puzzles and pencil art helped her pass the time in her later years. She took great interest in current events and kept up to date by watching CNN and Fox News.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brother. She is survived by the following niece and nephews; Jack Lauffer and his wife Bea of Shippenville, Daryl Lauffer and his wife Sue of Shippenville, Dianne Heeter of Clarion, Vern Lauffer and his wife Jan of Kossuth, James Pfaff and his wife Kim of Shippenville and a sister-in-law, Maxine Lauffer, of Marble.
