Terry L. Bailey

Terry L. Bailey, 39, of Lower Millers Eddy Rd., Parker, Perry Township, Armstrong County, passed away at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, November 21, 2013 at his residence following a twenty-one month battle with melanoma.  Terry’s family and friends were by his side when he drifted off to be with the Lord.

Terry was born on October 30, 1974 in Butler.  He was the son of Earl and Pamela Double Bailey of Karns City.  He was a 1993 graduate of Karns City High School.  He had been employed for nearly seventeen years by Indspec Chemical Corporation of Petrolia.  Previously, Terry was employed for a number of years by Hey Electric in Butler.  He was a member of the Ridgeville United Methodist Church and the Steel Worker’s Union Local 6346 – 25.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, snow skiing, and softball.  Terry was a loving husband and doting father, caring son and son-in-law, devoted brother, and faithful friend.  He was a very proud man and loved his family unconditionally.  Terry’s most cherished title was that of “Dad”.  His greatest joy was found in teaching his two children valuable and numerous lessons of life.  He was involved in all of their interests, especially their sporting events, and looked forward to Sundays as he and the children spent time together riding dirt bikes on the Bailey family farm enjoying the splendors of nature.

Terry is survived by his loving wife, Tina Johnston Bailey, whom he married on July 25, 1998 at Concord Presbyterian Church in Hooker.  He is survived by his daughter, Makala, and his son, Brock.  In addition to his parents, Terry is also survived by three brothers, Ken Bailey and his wife, Bobbi, Cris Bailey and his wife, Danielle, Colin Bailey and his wife, Missy; a sister, Leigh Nagy and her husband, Imre; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rick and Rosalyn Johnston, all of Karns City; his paternal grandfather, Roy Bailey of Karns City; a brother-in-law, Rod Johnston of Petrolia, nine nieces and nephews, a number of cousins, and many good friends.

Terry was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother and his maternal grandparents.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from 7 – 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 -  4 and 7 – 9 p.m. Sunday.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday from Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2217 Chicora Rd., Chicora, with the Rev. Pete Sapp, pastor of Trinity Reformed Church of Bradys Bend, Officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Petrolia Ambulance Service, P.O. Clara (Blair) Swigart

Clara (Blair) Swigart, 86, of Shippenville, died Friday, November 22, 2013, at the Golden Living Center in Shippenville.

Born August 24, 1927, in Porter Township; she was the daughter of the late Henry and Pearl Kifer Blair.

Clara was married on December 31, 1955, to Harold E. Swigart, who preceded her in death on July 5, 2002.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Shippenville. She enjoyed participating in church activities and visiting with her many good neighbors at Pine Terrace. Her greatest joy came from being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Clara is survived by her son, Ted Swigart and his fiancé, Patty Scarbaro, of Sonoita, AZ, her daughter, Carol Carnahan and her husband, Doug, of Shippenville; a son-in-law, Rollie Wolf of Ohio; four grandchildren, Shylo Neely and her husband, Al, Kurtis Carnahan and his wife, Jessica, Mason Wolf and his wife, Stephanie, and Bobby Joe Sherrard; and five great grandchildren, Zachary Neely, Kyden and Kacen Carnahan, and Holly and Bella Wolf.

Also surviving is a brother, Wilber Blair of the Golden Living Center in Shippenville; a sister, Mary Miller of Pulaski; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a beloved daughter, Cindy Wolf; eight brothers, Fred Blair, Samuel Blair, Forest Blair, Arthur Blair, Paul Blair, Orrin Blair, Robert Blair, and Burton Blair; and four sisters, Mildred Divins, Freda Stewart, Esther Blair, and Wanda Clark.

Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, 638 Wood Street, Clarion, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at the United Methodist Church in Shippenville.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, in the United Methodist Church in Shippenville with Rev. Betsy Cooper, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be held in the Herman Cemetery in New Bethlehem.

Josephine Helen Yeager, 92, passed away at the Brian Center in Wilson, NC on Thursday, November 21, 2013. Born in Venango County, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Frank Caleb Peterson and the late Bessie DeMille Peterson.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Henry Yeager, her brother Cecil Peterson, her sister Mable Norine Tarr, and her son in law, Larry E. Whitling.

Ms. Yeager attended the Harvest Christian Fellowship Church of God in Lucama, NC and will be remembered for her love of watching and feeding the birds.

Ms. Yeager is survived by her daughter, Helen Maxine Whitling of Kenly, NC, step daughter Dorothy Louise Wilson and husband Robert of Seneca, PA, and her step son, Harold W. “Bill” Yeager and wife Carol of Oil City, PA.

Also left to cherish her memory are her two grandchildren, John Whitling and wife Tammy of Cranberry, PA, Shirley Tramell and husband Eric of Kenly, NC, 16 step-grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and numerous step-great-great-grandchildren.

The Funeral will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at the Chapel of Minshew-Coley Funeral Home in Kenly.

The Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, November 25, 2013 at Kenly Cemetery. Pastor Daniel Taylor will be officiating both services.

Theodore “Ted” Vincent Garfield

Mr. Theodore “Ted” Vincent Garfield, 66, of Cherrytree Road, Titusville, passed into his heavenly kingdom early Friday morning, November 22, 2013 from complications of injuries sustained in a horseback riding accident on November 21, 2009. He was at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Garfield was born on June 6, 1947 in Titusville to the late Mr. Theodore Robert and Esther Gorsuch Garfield. He married Vickie Waychoff on July 12, 1969 at St. Titus Church in Titusville.

Ted graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in Titusville in 1965 and from Lincoln ARC Welding School of Cleveland in 1966.

Ted was a former member of St. Walburga Church and a current member of St. Titus Church. He was a member of the Venango County Conservation Board for a number of years and won their district award in 1983. He was a 4-H leader for eleven years. Ted enjoyed horseback riding, coon hunting, animals, fishing, and spending time with his daughters and grandchildren.

Mr. Garfield is survived by his wife Vickie, his three daughters: Jennifer Lefebvre and fiancé Todd Summers of Landgrove, VT, Rebecca Bacon and Husband Mike of Union City, Christine Muir and husband Kyle of Titusville; a brother, William Garfield of Girard; fourteen grandchildren, one grandson, and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Matthew and Lawrence Votee.

Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home, 303 N. Washington Street, Titusville, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 1:30 PM at St. Titus Church with Fr. Walter E. Packard, pastor of the Catholic Community of Titusville, as celebrant.

Interment will be at the family cemetery located on the family farm.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Crawford County, 310 N. Monroe Street, Titusville, PA 16354, and to the Cherrytree Volunteer Fire Department.

Ethel Walter

Ethel Walter, age 94, of Clarion, died Friday, November 22, 2013, at the Brookville Hospital.

Born on June 18, 1919, in Yatesboro, Armstrong County, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Ida (Donahue) Schrecengost.

On August 30, 1941, she married Robert Walter in the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion. He preceded her in death on January 2, 2000 after 60 years of marriage.

In her early years, Ethel worked at the G.C. Murphy Co. five and dime in Clarion and then went on to work at Owens-Illinois glass plant in Clarion from where she retired.

Ethel enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and looked forward to their visits. She spent time reading, crocheting, gardening and caring for her flowers.

She is survived by four children; her daughters, Patty Graybill and her husband Don of Bradford PA, Joan Miller of Shippenville PA, Karen Clark and her husband Gary of Clarion PA, and her son, Larry Walter and his wife Dorothy of Strattanville PA. Ethel’s 11 grandchildren are Jodi (Joe) Blackburn of Mechanicsville VA, Tracie Miller of DuBois PA, Michelle Morgan of West Warwick RI, Eric (Donna) Miller of Raleigh NC, Robert (Jen) Walter of Clarion PA, Kim (Jim) Dolmovich of Sligo PA, Scott Graybill of Pittsburgh PA, Lynette (Andy) Eschrich of Bradford PA, Matt (Kate) Clark of Hilton Head SC, Dan (Kristin) Clark of Clarion PA, and Becky (Jacob) Johnson of Wilson NC. Ethel has 17 great-grandchildren surviving as well.

In addition, she is survived by one sister, Annabelle Mock of Clarion PA and a sister-in-law Dora Schrecengost of Fryburg PA.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Robert Jr., three brothers, Russell, Raymond and Arnold Schrecengost, and two sisters, Edna Hubauer and Geraldine Wilshire.

Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street in Clarion where visitation with the family will be held from 3-6pm on Tuesday, November 26. A Christian Wake service will be held at 6:00pm on Tuesday evening. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Clarion on Wednesday, November 27 at 11:00am with Father Monty Sayers, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Clarion.

John G. Freas

John G. Freas, 88, of Brookville and formerly of Clarion, died Saturday, November 23, at his home.

Born June 21, 1925, in Punxsutawney, he was the son of John S. and Edna (Long) Freas.

John was a veteran of the U.S Army in WWII and served with the 85th Chemical Battalion in the South Pacific Theatre.

He was married on June 11, 1955, to the former Lucy Young, who survives.

John retired in 1987 after 22 years as the circulation manager of the Clarion News.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Clarion.

John enjoyed travel, driving, and working around the house.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons; Daniel Freas and his wife, Barbara, of Elkhorn, Wisconsin and Charles Freas and his wife, Melissa, of Roswell, Georgia; and three grandsons, Travis Freas of Elkhorn, Wisconsin, Gregory Freas of Noblesville Indiana, and Benjamin Freas of Elkhorn, Wisconsin.

There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Clarion, with Rev. Jake Jacobson and Rev. Deborah Jacobson officiating. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 66 Honor Guard at that time.

Anna M. Kusz Moran

Anna M. Kusz Moran 87, of Oil City died at 3:00 A.M. Monday Nov. 25, 2013 at the home of her daughter following a brief illness.

Born in Oil City, PA. on Nov. 3, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Maciej & Barbara Hajduk Kusz.

Anna was a graduate of Titusville High School and the Oil City Beauty School. She was the owner/operator of Moran’s Beauty Salon, located on Front St., Oil City and later was a substitute cosmetology teacher at Clarion County Vocational-Technical School and for the Oil City Beauty School, until her retirement.

On. Oct. 3, 1948 she was married in the Assumption B.V.M. Church to Walter A. Moran and he preceded her in death on Aug. 3, 1993.

She was a member of the Assumption B.V.M. Church . Mrs. Moran enjoyed playing her piano, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by three children, Walter A. Moran & his wife Anne of Kennerdell Barbara M. Hanna of Oil City James L. Moran & his wife Jeanne of Erie 7 grandchildren Joseph Moran of Montana Laura Ngo and her husband Quoc-Khanh Ngo of Virginia Michael Moran & his wife Christina of Florida Sarah, Tom, Jim and Joe Moran of Erie A great granddaughter, Elaina Ngo And numerous nieces and nephews Anna was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She was preceded in death by sisters Bernice Perry, Mary Burk, Helen Rodgers And by brothers John Kush, Joseph Kush, Stanley Kusz and Andrew Kusz and two infant siblings.

Friends will be received from 7-9 P.M. Wednesday in the Reinsel Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Friday in the Assumption B.V.M. Church with Fr. Justin P. Pino, Pastor, Presiding. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Richard “Dick” V. Rhoades

Richard “Dick” V. Rhoades, age 82, of Columbia Cross Roads, Pa., passed away Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013 in Elmira under the care of his loving family following declining health.

Born on Oct. 18, 1931 in Venango County, Pa., Dick was the son of the late, Edson and Maude Karns Rhoades. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Dick married June Lewis in 1955. He was employed for many years by Westinghouse.

His interests included caring for his farm, hunting, fishing, and time spent with his cherished family who survive — loving wife and companion, June Lewis Rhoades, Columbia Cross Roads, Pa.; daughters, Deborah (Patrick Sullivan) Vincent, Towanda, PA; Mary Lou (George) Lewis, Elmira; several grandchildren, Jason (Brandy) Vincent, Krista (Steve) Gyurik, Richard (Julie) Lewis and Judy Lewis; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Ryan, Jenna, Logan, Paige, Skylar, Richard Jr., and Nicholas; sisters-in-law, Merele Mullin and Marie Rhoades; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dick was predeceased by his siblings, Lawrence and Ellis Rhoades, and Dorothea Dick.

Family and friends will be received at Caywood’s Funeral Home & Gardens, 1126 Broadway, Southport/Elmira on Tues. Nov. 26, 2013 between the hours of 5-7 p.m.

Funeral services will follow the visitation at 7:15 p.m.

Burial will take place in Bentley Creek Cemetery, Bentley Creek, Pa., at the families convenience where full military honors will be accorded Mr. Rhoades.

Fred D. Sayer

Fred D. Sayer, retired lieutenant colonel of the U.S. Air Force, of Brookville, passed away Saturday (Nov. 23, 2013) at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh.

He was born in Brookville on March 6, 1919, to Fred and Alma Lucas Sayer. He was educated in the Brookville schools, graduated from Juniata College and held a master’s degree in industrial management from the University of Pittsburgh.

Following graduation from college, he was employed by The Proctor and Gamble Co. until he entered the military service in 1942. Following wartime service in the Air Force in the United States, Australia, New Guinea, the Philippines and Japan, he was relieved from active duty in 1946 and was employed by Sylvania Electric Products Inc. in Emporium and Altoona. Recalled to active military duty in 1949, he served continuously in the Air Force until his retirement in 1972. In addition to World War II service, he served in Korea and Vietnam and was stationed in Japan, Europe and numerous duty stations in the United States.

After retirement, he returned to Brookville, where he served on borough council, borough planning commission and the boards of the Arthurs Memorial Library and Brookville Industrial Foundation. An elder of the Presbyterian Church, he served that church as a trustee and member of the Session. He was a member of the Air Force Association, Military Officer’s Association of America, Armed Forces Benefit Association and Pinecrest Country Club.

He was married to Jean McMurray of Brookville in 1946. She preceded him in death in 1981. He was also married to Jean Alexander of Clarion. She preceded him in death in 1990.

Surviving are three daughters, Leslie (Dan) Clark of Brookville, Linda (Tim) Walter of Bradford and Anne (Robert Deemer) Sayer of Brookville; one son, William (Meghan) of Berwyn; and two stepsons, Charles Alexander of Frewsburg, N.Y., and Dr. Stephen (Nancy) Alexander of Oxford, Ohio; along with several grandchildren.

Besides his parents and wives he was preceded in death by two sisters, Julia Delaney and Marjorie Harvey; two infant children; and a stepson, James Alexander.

Memorials are suggested to the Arthurs Memorial Library, Brookville Presbyterian Church and Brookville YMCA. No visitation will be held, and a gathering of family of friends will be held at a later date.

Walter D. Gill

Walter D. Gill, age 63, of Kittanning, formerly of Oil City and Indiana, passed away Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the home of his daughter.

He was born in 1950 in Johnstown, to Walter W. and Elizabeth Rice Gill. He was employed by Penelec, (Edison Energy), for 30 years until his retirement in 2008.

Walt enjoyed bowling, golf, playing cards, and spending time with family. His sense of humor and practical jokes will be remembered by his family and all who knew him.

Walter is survived by three daughters and one son. Sarah K. Kelley, Los Angeles, CA; David T. Gill and wife Erin, Pittsburgh; Laura J. Rinaman and husband Craig, Kittanning; Emily E. Gill, Pittsburgh; four grandsons, Charlie Gill, Alex Gill, Bryce Rinaman, Jordan Rinaman; one sister, Meg Weil and husband Charles, Chicago, IL; two nephews, Michael and William Weil, Chicago, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, by an infant son Matthew Gill, and by a brother Richard Gill.

Friends will be received on Friday from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, 500 Ben Franklin Rd., S., Indiana, where a funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 A.M.

Interment will be private.

Mrs. Ellen L. Armstrong, 84, formerly of Titusville, died Saturday afternoon November 23, 2013 at her daughter’s residence in Enola, PA.

Ellen was born on October 15, 1929 at Hydetown, PA, a daughter of the late Richard and Madelyn Goodwill Donovan. She was raised by her grandparents, Fred and Ida Donovan. Ellen was formerly married to Floyd Armstrong.

She was a graduate of the Titusville High School and of the Sibley Hospital School of Nursing in Washington, DC, class of 1973. She had been employed as a nurse at the Titusville Area Hospital for a number of years. Ellen had also worked at the former MFG Boat Company in Union City.

She was a former member of the Diamond United Methodist Church and a current member of the Enola Emanuel United Methodist Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by three daughters, Linda Wyant and husband Alan of Centerville, Shirley Copeland of Pleasantville, and Carole Armstrong of Enola with whom she made her home; seven grandchildren, Scott Wyant and wife Robin of Meadville, Mark Wyant and wife Steffanie of Transfer, PA, Shannon Hasbrouck and husband Jim of Centerville, Jason Rankin and wife Sarah of Grand Valley, Joni Wescoat and husband Kevin of Titusville, MSGT Kurt Copeland stationed with the US Air Force at Belgium, and Deanna Morris and husband Aaron of Pittsburgh; 16 great grandchildren; and one great great grandson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Duane Copeland; a great granddaughter; two step-brothers; and a step-sister.

Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Saturday from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at which time the funeral service will be conducted with Rev. John Hall officiating.

Interment will be in St. Catharines Cemetery in Titusville.

Mary Lou Kerle Ball

Mary Lou Kerle Ball, 79, of Clarion, died unexpectedly after a sudden illness on Monday, November 25, 2013, at the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

Born January 25, 1934 in Clarion; she was the daughter of the late Joseph J. and Anges B. Schill Kerle.

Mary was first married to Bill Gardner, who preceded her in death. She was later married to Marty Canavan, who also preceded her in death.

She was a nurse at the Millcreek Community Hospital in Erie.

Mary was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion, where she was very active in activities. She spent her life taking care of others. She was a volunteer at Charitable Deeds. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and she was well known for her delicious brownies. She was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Surviving are three children, Annette Gardner of Erie, Bob Gardner and his wife, Roberta, of Erie, Kelly Welser and her husband, Doug, of McKean; four grandchildren, Jessica Cramer and her husband, Greg, of Erie, Angela Glass and her husband, Aaron, of Edinboro and Kaila and Carson Welser of McKean; and four great grandchildren, Ethan and Ashlyn Cramer of Erie and Austin and Andrew Glass of Edinboro. Also surviving are two sisters, Anne Kerle of Clarion, and Doris Callen and her husband, Butch, of Florida; three brothers, John Kerle and his wife, Kate, of Knox, Jim Kerle and his wife, Martha, of Clarion, and Romey Kerle and his wife, Jan, of Florida; a number of nieces and nephews; and a longtime friend, Mary Helen Senard of Clarion.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, and a brother, Joe Kerle.

Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, November 29, 2013, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, 638 Wood Street, Clarion.

Wake service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 29, 2013, in the funeral home.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2013, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion with Rev. Monty Sayers, pastor of the Immaculate Conception Church, presiding.

Entombment will be held in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery Mausoleum.

Henry E. “Sonny” Card, 78, formerly of Mapledale, died at 7:02 P.M. Monday Nov. 25, 2013 at Oakwood Heights in Oil City after an extended illness.

Born Dec. 11, 1934 in Franklin, PA., he was the son of the late Henry Card & Hazel Rodgers Card.

He was a graduate of Franklin High School. Mr. Card was a veteran of the United States Army serving as a Corporal during the Korean War. He had received the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service medal, the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars and the Good Conduct Medal.

Sonny was a supervisor in the yard at Franklin Steel. He was a member of the Willow St. Free Methodist Church. Mr. Card was also a member of the Oilers Camping group and the Franklin V.F.W.

After retirement, he had drove truck for Allied Trucking. He enjoyed country music, vacationing and traveling with his wife and spending time with family and friends. He was married to the former Judith A. Mohnkern on March 10, 1990 and she survives.

He is also survived by three children, Deborah Shoup of Franklin, Sherrie Bowler & her husband Rick of Seneca, Michelle Kline & her husband Pat of Tionesta. Henry has three stepchildren,Terry Dunkle of Sandy Lake, Tangy Kapp & her husband Dave of Seneca, Todd Dunkle & his wife Vickie of Pleasantville. Henry also has numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. A brother Charles “Chuck” Card & his wife Chiko of Franklin, a sister Gladys Tarr of Grove City, And the following step brothers and sisters, Henry Card Jr. & his wife Jennifer of CT., Paul & Donna Card of Emlenton Roy Card of Emlenton, James & Kathy Card of CT., Anson Card of Emlenton ,Florence “Sis” Dodge of Oil City, Reanie Pannell & her husband Ron of OH. ,Tena Brown & her husband Bob of Corsica, Gertie Honsley of MN, and by many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother-in laws and their wives, Jim & Lois MohnkernTom, Jane MohnkernJohn, and Carol Mohnkern.

He was preceded in death by two step brothers George Card & William Card And by two step sisters Nancy Card & Mary Irene Card.

Friends will be received from 5-7 P.M. Friday in the Reinsel Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 7 P.M. in the Funeral Home with Rev. T. Christopher Hill, Pastor of Willow St. Free Methodist Church, Presiding.

Military Honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard. Interment will be in Brandon Cemetery.

John Henry Wagner

John Henry Wagner died at the age of 101 on November 14, 2013 at the Masonic Village in Sewickley, PA.

He was born September 4, 1912 in Marion, OH, a son of the late John H. and Emma K. Snyder Wagner.

John graduated from Marion High School in 1930 and taught high school shop classes for several years. He became head of household at age 21 due to the death of his father and supported his mother and sister. John worked as a shop riveter at Marion Power Shovel Company and rose to the position of design engineer with the company.

He studied at home for licensure as a professional engineer and became a Registered Professional Engineer in Ohio and PA in 1947. The family moved to Oil City, PA in 1947 where John worked at Oil Well Supply Company. He designed large coal stripping shovels while working for Bucyrus Erie in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin and rock drills for Ingersoll Rand in Phillipsburg, New Jersey. The family returned to Franklin, PA in 1957, and John designed underground coal mining machinery for Joy Manufacturing Company. In 1977, John and Esther moved to Bradfordwoods, PA where he designed railroad car parts for A. Stuki Company in Pittsburgh, PA. He practiced engineering until he was 75 years old.

John Wagner was creative and received many patents for a wide variety of machinery. At his 100th birthday celebration, he was recognized by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania House of Representatives and the Senate for significant contributions to the development and practice of Professional Engineering in PA. His creativity was also evident in his woodworking and art.

John married Mary Esther Selanders in 1937and had three sons.

John’s wife Esther died in 1983 after 46 years of marriage. John moved to Masonic Village in Sewickley in 2004. He was admired by residents and staff and entertained them with his stories until his death.

In addition to his parents and Esther, he was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Sofia Wagner and his youngest son Timothy Wagner.

He is survived by his sons, David Gene Wagner of State College, PA and Jan Wagner of Stillwater, OK; three daughters-in law; five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Masonic Village in Sewickley for residents, staff, friends, and family.

A private family graveside service will be held at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens in Cranberry, PA.

Charles W. “Chuck” Robertson

Charles W. “Chuck” Robertson, age 61, of Clarion, comfortably went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 26, 2013, at his home after a courageous six-month battle with cancer.

Chuck was born on February 6, 1952, in Brookville, the son of Darwin and Maud (Harriger) Robertson. After graduating from high school, he married his high school sweetheart the former Debra Bashline on November 5, 1971, in Shippenville.

Chuck was a diesel truck technician with Zacherl Motor Truck Sales, Inc. of Clarion. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman who loved tooling around on his Kubota tractor. Chuck was a die-hard Steelers fan and a devout NASCAR fan. But more than that, Chuck loved his family. He adored his children and beloved grandchildren (never missing any of their sporting events) and his two four-legged companions, Chloe and Donnie. Chuck was a former member of Clarion Masonic Lodge and the Clarion Volunteer Fire Company.

In addition to his wife, Debra, Chuck is survived by his father, Darwin Robertson of Shippenville, his son, Eric Charles Robertson of Summerville, his daughters, Autumn Lynn Boddorf and her husband Bobby of Clarion, and Erin Dawn Monrean and her husband Benjamin of Corsica. Chuck is also survived by seven grandchildren, Eric Jr. and Kyle Robertson, Emily and Elijah Monrean, Riley and Abbie Slagle, and Olivia Boddorf. Additionally, he is survived by a brother, Timothy Robertson of Cambridge Springs, and a sister Rita Foust of Marco Island Florida.

Chuck was preceded in death by his mother, Maud, an infant brother, Mark, his sisters Leslie Exley and Cynthia Williams, his mother- and father-in-law, Eria (Magrini) and Duane Bashline, and a daughter-in-law, Cherith Robertson.

Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home & Crematory in Clarion. There will be no public visitation or viewing. A celebration of life for Chuck will be held at a later date, at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations in Chuck’s honor can be made to the Cancer Center at Clarion Hospital or to the Clarion-Forest VNA Hospice Program.

Leroy B. Burgason 84 of 38 Stewart Rd. Oil City, PA. died on Sunday Nov. 24, 2013 at 9:37 P.M. at the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pgh. following a brief illness.

Born in Warren, PA. on Dec. 27, 1928 son of the late Carl and Emma Miller Burgason.

He was a 1946 graduate of Marienville High School and was a Veteran of the US Navy during WW II serving as a Fireman 2nd Class from 1-24-46 thru 12-8-1947.

He had been employed at Anchor Glass in Zainesville, Ohio and at Reno Mold and Knox Glass. Mr. Burgason was a life member of the PNA, the Pulaski Club and the VFW.

He enjoyed fishing and woodworking and enjoyed attending local football and basketball games.

Leroy was married on April 18, 1955 in Toledo, OH to the former Helen Marilyn and she preceded him in death on April 18, 1990. Survivors include …, Two daughters and their spouses , Linda and Stephen Kirsch of Dryden,NY, and Diane and Ron Meyers of Martinez, GA. Grandchildren Zachary and Michael Kirsch and Mitchell and Lindsay Leigh Meyers. Special friend Phyllis Dolecki of Oil City and his constant companion, his dog, Genny.

He was preceded in death by 1 brother Theodore ( Ted ) BURGASON.

Friends will be received from 11:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. Friday in the Reinsel Funeral Home.

A memorial Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. in the Funeral Home with Rev. Pete Knight, Presiding. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.
