Howard Lewis Buck, 80, of Euclid Ave. Brookville, Pa., passed away Monday, December 16, 2013 at McKinley Health Center, Brookville, Pa.
He was born April 22, 1933, the son of Admiral Frank Buck and Ida Mae Tice Buck.
Buck was married to Arvilla Hilliard on January 31, 1958, in South Bethlehem, Pa.
He was a U.S. Army, Sgt. First Class HV Tank Company, 15th Infantry Regiment, in the Korean War, from May 28, 1953 to May 16, 1955 and during this time period he was cited for meritorious service, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Army Commendation Medal. His outstanding dependability and cheerfulness in carrying out his assigned duties materially contributed to the high state of morale in his unit. SFC Buck’s outstanding skill, initiative, and untiring devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
He worked for 35 years as a store manager for Brown’s Boot Shop in Brookville, Pa., and for 15 years worked for Clarion University in Clarion, Pa. in housekeeping and grounds maintenance.
Buck was also a member of the American Legion Post 102 in Brookville, Pa.
He enjoyed his daily walks and visiting with people along the way. He enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, and hunting. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their many sporting events throughout the
years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include, 2 Sons and 1 Daughter, Mark Buck (Melissa) of Brookville, Pa., David Buck (Diane) of Brookville, Pa. and Susan Slimak (Darryl) of State College, Pa., 1 Brother and 1 Sister, Frank Buck of Brookville, Pa. and Clara Ion of Shippenville, Pa., 6 grandchildren Heather Hogan (Jimmy), Jennifer Buck, Jason Buck, Bryan Buck, Morgan Slimak, and Emily Slimak, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 Brothers – Wilbur and Vernon Buck, 2 sisters, Harriet Bajoraitis and Florence Finnefrock.
Visitation Hours are Saturday, December 21, 2013 1 PM to 3 PM at the funeral home.
Service will be held Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 3:00 PM at McKinney Funeral Home, officiated by The Rev. Kevin Bockus.
Interment is at Lakelawn Memorial Park located at Reynoldsville, Pa.

Willis J. Weaver, Sr., 94, of Lucinda, died Tuesday afternoon, December 17, 2013 at his home. Born February 19, 1919, in Fryburg, he was the son of the late Alfred H. and Irene Denslinger Weaver.
He married the former Rosemary C. Ochs on September 30, 1947 at St. Joseph Church in Lucinda and she survives.
Mr. Weaver served in the U.S. Army during WW II in the European Theatre. He retired from Oilwell Supply in Oil City in 1984. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lucinda.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Weaver is survived by a son Robert A. Weaver and his wife, Kathleen of Tionesta. He is also survived by a sister, Rita Aaron of Franklin and a brother, Leo Weaver and his wife, Kay of Rimersburg. He is survived by 5 grandchildren, Jennifer Weaver and her fiancé, Jason Pollock of Tionesta, Deanna Doyle and her husband, Brian of Cranberry Township, Edward Weaver, Katrina Weaver and Jackie Weaver, all of Missouri. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Weaver was preceded in death by a son, W. Joseph Weaver, Jr., a brother, Merle Weaver and a sister, Mary Alice Schreffler.

Walter E. Henry, 79, of Highland Oaks, Shippenville, formerly of New Bethlehem, died Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at the Golden Living Center in Shippenville.
Born November 12, 1934 in Porter Township, Clarion County, he was the son of the late Leon E. and Flomy Huffman Henry.
Walter worked on the family farm for many years. He then worked at the St. Charles Brick Plant, where he retired.
He enjoyed farming, hunting, and loved his German Shepherds.
He attended the First United Methodist Church in New Bethlehem.
Surviving are a sister, Ruth Burdett and her husband, Paul, of Distant; a sister-in-law, Ella Henry of Clarion; five nieces and nephews, Karen Burdett of Distant, Paulette Nuhfer and her husband, David, of Ohio, Robin Peterson and her husband, Allen, of Clarion, Marty Henry and his wife, Roxanne, of New Bethlehem, and Craig Henry and his wife, Michelle, of Georgia; and numerous step nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Eugene Henry.
There will be no visitation.
Funeral services will be private.

Interment will be held in the Leatherwood Cemetery in New Bethlehem.

Wilbur R. Blair, 88, of Smithland Rd., Porter Twp., New Bethlehem, PA, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Shippenville surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on July 1, 1925 in Porter Twp., Clarion Co. PA, the son of Henry and Esther Pearl (Kifer) Blair.
Wilbur was a lifetime resident of the area and honorably served in the US Army during World War II.
He worked as a driller for Hydro Group and was a member of both the Reformed Presbyterian Church of Rimersburg and the American Legion of New Bethlehem.
One of Wilbur’s favorite pastimes was gardening and he loved working in his beautiful gardens with his wife, Fern.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 67 years, Fern C. Blair, whom he married September 5, 1946; sons, John Blair and Stephanie, of Seneca, and Terry Blair and wife, Carme, of Clarion; daughters, Patricia Schrecengost and husband, Terry, of Distant, Mary Reitz and husband, Terry, of Sligo, and Susan McElhattan and husband, Terry, of Clarion; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Miller and husband, Robert, of Pulaski, PA; and daughter-in-law, Reda Blair, of Curlsville.
Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents; son, Davey Blair; grandson, Brendan Blair; brothers, Fred, Arthur, Paul, Oren, Robert and Burton Blair; and sisters, Mildred and Freda Divins, Wanda Clark and Clara Swigart.
Family and friends will be received from 4-7 PM on Thursday, December 19, 2013, at the Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home, 758 Main St., Rimersburg.

MaryEllen Delp, 43, of Dusty Drive, Brookville, Pa., passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at DuBois Regional Medical Center, DuBois, Pa.
Born on February 20, 1970, in Easton, Pa., she was the daughter of Stanley Paul Miller (Elaine) who survives in Mount Bethel, Pa. and Lynda Jean Hughes who survives in Bangor, Pa.
She was married May 10, 1996, in Bangor, Pa., to Charles E. Delp Jr., who survives.
She worked as a school bus driver for Krise Bus Co. in Punxsutawney, Pa. and for Jefferson-Clarion Co. Head Start.
She was a 1988 graduate of Bangor Area High School; a member of the Warsaw Sportsman Club; and received her certification as a State TrainerCDL for buses. She enjoyed baking and cooking, hunting, fishing, and especially enjoyed her family, children, and grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by three daughters, Debora C. Hardy of Kresgeville, Pa.; Alexis N. Delp of Brookville, Pa.; and Amanda L. Delp of Brookville, Pa., and three grandchildren, Morgan, Mickey, and Cragar Hardy.
She is also survived by her father and mother-in-law, Charles E. Delp Sr. (Cheryl) of KnoxDale, Pa.; a brother, Steven John Miller (Margie) of East Stroudsburg, Pa.; a sister, Diane Constable of East Bangor, Pa.; and a brother-in-law, David Constable of East Bangor, Pa., and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Frances Antionette Dlugos, (Vendetti), 92, died peacefully at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday,December 17, 2013, in Golden Living Center of Oil City, following a period of declining health.
Born June 13, 1921, in Franklin, later residing in Oil City, she was the beloved daughter of the late Dominic and Beatrice Zappia Vendetti, who emigrated from Italy.
Fran was a 1939 graduate of Franklin High School. Following graduation she worked for Faber, Coe & Gregg in the hotel business as the manager of cigar and newsstandsin several locations and states, retiring in 1977. Her favorite location was theFort Pitt Hotel in Pittsburgh where the Steelers held their main office and whereArt Rooney Sr. was her favorite customer. She was an avid Steelers and Pirates fan and all around sports fan. She also met many famous people at her hotel locations.
Fran returned to Oil City in 1979 where she worked as an RSA at Polk Center and again retired in 1984. She was later a cook at the Salvation Army, volunteered at St. Stephen cafeteria and ended her career at the age of 90 at Community Services in Oil City.
Fran was a devout Catholic. She attended mass every morning and was a lector at St. Stephen Church in Oil City until her health declined. She belonged to the Alter Rosary Society where she had been the past President. She passed holding her rosary in her hand.
Fran belonged to the Pulaski Club, Golden Agers Club of the Assumption Church and also the YWCA Gallivanters. She was well known for her homemade desserts and jellies which she enjoyed giving to friends.
She is survived by her nieces, Mary-Kay Hagerty and husband Tim of Franklin, Gina Vendetti Proper of Cooperstown, Janet Carson Lee and husband Jim of Washington, Patty Hollers and husband Jerry of California and Laurie Carson of Washington; her nephews, Frank Vendetti Jr. and wife Judy of Franklin, Mark Kase of Nevada and David Kase and Tom Kase of Arizona. She is also survived by 11 great nieces and nephews and 6 great-great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Carmelena Carson in 1969, Cecelia Spence in 1984, Pat Kase in 2009 and two infant sisters Mary and Pasqualena; her brother, Frank Vendetti Sr. in 2012 and her niece Bobbie Carson in 2013.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Friday in the Reinsel Funeral Home, 116 Bissell Ave., Oil City.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephen Church in Oil City with Fr. Matthew Ruyechan, Pastor, Presiding.
Interment will follow in the St. Patrick Cemetery in Franklin.

Born in Porter Twp., Midland Co., MI on July 19, 1940, he was the son of the late Harry G. and Viola Anna Risley Pennington. “Gib” attended to former Karns City High School, and was protestant by faith. In early years he worked as a tool dresser for JC Walker Gas Co. in Bruin. He then worked as a heavy equipment operator for the former AH-RS Coal Co, and retired from the Slippery Rock Aggregates Corp. of Slippery Rock, Pa. He was a social member of VFW Post 7840 of Hilliards, and was a member of the Clarion Co. Rod and Gun Club.
In addition to his wife and daughters, he was quite devoted to and enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Sandra “Sonnie” Banner Pennington whom he married in Winchester, VA.; surviving are three daughters and husbands: Vicki (John) Wagner of Butler, Karen (Bill) Wolfe of Emlenton, and Lou Ann (Mark) Strandburg of Warren, Pa.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren survive; sister Jessie M. Snyder of Eau Claire and brother Robert (Velma) Pennington of Bruin also survive as well as a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Keith Pennington, and two sisters, Lois Scott and Judy Pennington.

Elsie M. Beichner, 92, of Shippenville, formerly of Pine City, Elk Township, Clarion County, passed away at 10:15am Wednesday Morning, December 18, 2013, at Golden Living Shippenville.
Elsie was born in Coylesville, Butler County, on November 6, 1921. She was the daughter of John M. Sr. and Mary J. Best Nugent. She was married on February 5, 1946 to Joseph H. Beichner. He preceded her in death on September 6, 1964. Mrs. Beichner was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Emlenton. She was a homemaker and enjoyed the company of her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by three sons, Morris J. Beichner and his wife Cindy of Titusville, Lloyd G. Beichner and his wife Beverly of Salt Lake City, UT, and Larry J. Beichner and his wife Tammy of Brooksville, FL. Three daughters survive, Betty Cope and her husband Charles of Kirkland, OH, Mary L. Allio of Erie, and Laura Banner and her husband Jay of Shippenville. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and numerous great grand children. A brother survives, John Nugent Jr. and his wife Donna of Venus. Two sisters survive, Matilda “Tillie’ Beichner of Shippenville, and Marty Brayko of Brooksville, FL as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son Joseph H. Beichner Jr. who died September 27, 1966, and three brothers, Dean, James, and Robert Lee Beichner and two sisters, Ruth Whitmore, and Marcella Nugent.

Gilbert Edwin “Gib” Pennington, 73, of Venango Twp., Parker, Pa. passed away Tuesday evening (12-17-13) at VNA In-Patient Hospice, Butler following an extended illness.

Rose M. Hiwiller, 56, of Redbank, PA, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2013 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.
She was born February 24, 1957 in New Kensington, PA.
Rose was raised by her grandfather, Thomas Victor Snee and grew up in the Harmarville area, moving to Widnoon 20 years ago. For many years she stayed at home caring for her three daughters, but she went back to work as a technician for Medrad, a job she held for eight years. Rose enjoyed playing games on the computer and was very creative, often making beautiful crafts and taking pictures. She especially loved decorating her house for Christmas. Her family will never forget her deep love for them and those who knew her will always remember her good and kind heart.
She will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Scott Hiwiller, whom she married January 16, 1983; daughters, Kelly Dimalanta and husband, Eric, of Norwich, CT, Heather Hiwiller and boyfriend, Ken Adams, of Tidal, and Amber Jackson and husband, Andrew, of Widnoon; and grandchildren, Eric, Katelyn and Jasmine Dimalanta.
Rose was preceded in death by her grandfather who raised her, Thomas Victor Snee.
Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Saturday, December 21, 2013, at the Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home, 758 Main St., Rimersburg.
Additional visitation will be from 1 PM until the time of funeral services at 2 PM on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Joni Williams officiating.

Ray L. Brenoel, 87, of Cochranton, died Thursday, December 19, 2013 at his residence. Born, August 1, 1926 in Meadville, he was the son of Ralph and Celestine Emig Brenoel. He married Dorothy (Dot) Smith on December 31, 1949 and she survives.
Ray attended St. Agatha’s School until 11th grade when he enlisted in the US Navy on July 24, 1944 and served until June 7, 1946. Coming back from the war he returned to school at the former Meadville VoTech and graduated with the 1947 class. He continued his education at Orra Jean Barber School in Erie and also Michael’s Beauty Academy in Meadville.
Ray began cutting hair in Cochranton in 1956 and retired in 2006. He also owned and operated Ray’s Gun Shop beginning in 1962.
He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Cochranton, a charter member of the Cochranton Lions Club and Community Park. He also belonged to the Cochranton American Legion Post #836, the Meadville Moose, Meadville Elks, Cochranton Fire Department Station #4 and the Cochranton Sportsmen’s Club.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, golfing and anyone who liked to carry on a conversation. He also took great pride in watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren grow.
Survivors in addition to his wife of 63 years, include a son Michael Brenoel and his wife Gaylynn of Michigan, a daughter Kathleen DeVoge and her husband Michael Snyder of Barbousville, West Virginia, a daughter Rebecca Niklas and her husband Michael of Ellicottville, New York and a son Bill Brenoel of Conneaut Lake. Seven grandchildren, Joseph (Chip) DeVoge, Kristine DeVoge, Dr. Sara Niklas, Katie Priest, Jaben Brenoel, Abbi Brenoel, and Chandra Brenoel. Eight great grandchildren and a sister Mary Lou Davies of Simi Valley, California..
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Paul Brenoel and a sister Geraldine Wyant.

Ronald D. Martz, 85, of Brookside Lane, Brookville, Pa., passed away on Friday, December 20, 2013, at Brookside Senior Living.
Born on April 7, 1928, in Knox Twp., Jefferson Co., he was the son of Clover Adrian Martz and Pearl Frances Martz.
Ronald was a US Veteran, a Corporal in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
He worked as a general laborer.
He attended Evangelical United Methodist Church in Brookville, Pa., and enjoyed hunting and model airplanes.
He is survived by two brothers, two sisters, and several nieces.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald D. Martz.

Long time Knox resident, Charlotte Grace Brindley Caldwell, 90, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, December 19, 2013, after a brief illness. Her daughter, Sara was with her when she passed.
Born August 5, 1923, in Germaino, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Della Clutz Brindley.
She was married on December 15, 1945, to Melvin G. Caldwell, who preceded her in death.
Charlotte retired from Clarion University of Pennsylvania in 1988 after twenty years of secretarial service in the Admissions office. She was an avid Bridge player for over fifty years.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Clarion.
Charlotte was the longest living member of her immediate family and celebrated her ninetieth birthday this past August with her children, grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Charlotte is survived by a son, David Caldwell and his wife, Christy, of Topeka, Kansas, and two daughters, Sara Porter of Knox and Lisa Stewart and her husband, Eric, of Elkhart, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Albert Caldwell of Augusta, Georgia, Jane Leger of Kansas City, Kansas, David Grant Caldwell of St. Joseph Missouri, Amy Nevison and her husband, Steve, of Huron, Ohio, Eric Stewart and his wife, Patty, of Sturgis, Michigan, Stephanie Porter and Nathan McHale of DuBois, and Sonya Porter Weaver and her husband, Steve, of Knox; sixteen great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild; and a dear friend, Sarah Kahle, who she considered one of her granddaughters.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, her brother, Neale Brindley and his wife, Barbara.
At her request, there will be no visitation. The arrangements are under the direction of the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, 638 Wood Street, Clarion.
Interment will be held in Knox Union Cemetery.

Richard F. “Dick” Cheers, 65, of Jones Road, Emlenton, Richland Twp., Clarion County, passed on to his heavenly home Friday morning, December 20, 2013 in the hospice at the Butler VA Medical Center following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Franklin on May 21, 1948, Dick was the son of Patsy Graham Cheers of Franklin and the late Frank L. Cheers.
Dick was a 1966 graduate of Valley Grove High School in Rocky Grove and attended Clarion University at the Venango Campus. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, and was a Seabee in Mobile Construction Battalion #53.
He served in Vietnam in 1969.
Dick attended the Salem Lutheran Church. He enjoyed traveling, camping, and the company of his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was a member and past master of the Edenburg Masonic Lodge #550 F&AM in Knox.
He was a member the NRA and the DeHart-Rossman-Wenner American Legion Post #997 in Lamartine. Dick was known as “Mr. Fix It”. He was a skilled carpenter and mechanic and was called upon by family and friends to build and fix things. Dick was last employed by Reckart Sawmill Equipment in Shippenville.
Dick is survived by his wife, Ann L. Rhoades Cheers, whom he married at the Salem Lutheran Church on May 3, 1968. Also surviving are three children, Aimee E. Lauezzari and her husband, Terry, of Ardeley, England, Susyn R. Klingler and her husband, Jeremy, of Emlenton, Greg R. Cheers and his wife, Vonda, of Louisville, KY; five grandchildren, Emilee D. and Paige M. Klingler of Emlenton, Faith A., Korben G., and August V. Cheers of Louisville, two step grandchildren, Bo and Teri Lauezzari of Ardeley, England; two exchange student daughters, Claudia Neidl and her husband, Klaus, and their sons of Amberg,Germany and Birgit la Cour Madsen and her husband, Jesper, and their sons of Denmark; a sister, Bessie Nolf and her husband, Tony, of Franklin, and two brothers, Donald Cheers and his wife, Nora, of Franklin and Neil Cheers of Polk, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
In addition to his father, Dick was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave, Emlenton, from 1 – 3 and 6 – 9 p.m. Sunday. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Salem Lutheran Church, 2057 Rt. 208, Lamartine, PA 16375, with the Rev. Karen Parsh, church pastor, officiating.
Interment with military honors accorded by the Lamartine American Legion Post will follow at Salem Lutheran Cemetery.

Ellouise Cynthia Gates Oglesby, 95 of 252 Third Street, Pleasantville PA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 20, 2013.
Born on April 15, 1918 in Chestertown, NY in the home of her maternal grandfather, Foster B. Tripp on Landin Hill, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Myron James Gates and Mary E. Tripp Gates.
She attended A. M. Chesbrough High School & College (now Roberts Wesleyan College), North Chili, NY.
On August 24, 1945 at the Warrensburg Free Methodist Church, Warrensburg, NY, she married Rev. George Purviance Oglesby, who preceded her in death on August 7, 2012.
She was a member of the Pleasantville Free Methodist Church in Pleasantville, PA.
Mrs. Oglesby worked for GE in Schenectady, NY during World War II. In 1945 she worked for Child Evangelism Fellowship in Armstrong County, PA prior to her marriage. She also worked as an aide in the Titusville School District and was known as “Mrs. O” when she worked in the library at the Pleasantville Elementary School.
She faithfully served with her husband in churches in Ridgeway, Coudersport, Kane, Lock Haven, Bradford, Ellwood City, Oil City, Van, Franklin and Pleasantville. She held several offices, including president of the Women’s Missionary Society of the Oil City Conference of the Free Methodist Church. She also served as General Superintendent of the Junior Missionary Society for the Free Methodist Church of North America. She loved working with children and led Vacation Bible Schools in churches and camps over the years.
She served faithfully at the Pleasantville Free Methodist Church, serving as secretary of the Board, Director of Christian Education and until recently as organist.
She is survived by a son, James P. Oglesby and wife Suzzette, and grandsons Sam and Scott, all of Wilmington, MA, and a daughter Rev. Cynthia Ellouise Hill and husband Rev. Chris of Oil City and grandson Chad and wife Nicole of Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania.
Also surviving are brothers, Ervin Foster Gates and wife Betty of Seminole, OK and Lewis Frederick Gates and wife Joy of Livermore, CA and a sister Rev. Alice Mary Gates Godfrey of Cherry Grove, PA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Edgar Tripp Gates, James Henry Gates and
Milford Ernest Gates, and a sister Alda Mary Gates.
Visitation will be held at Morrison Funeral Home in Oil City, on Sunday, December 22, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm and on Monday, December 23 at the Pleasantville Free Methodist Church in Pleasantville, PA from 10 to 11 am.
A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, December 23, at 11:00 am at the Pleasantville Free Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Wayne Sawyer, pastor of the Kittanning Free Methodist church and Rev. Chuck Riel, pastor of the Pleasantville Free Methodist Church.
Interment will follow in the Big Bend Cemetery, Emlenton, Pennsylvania.

Richard G. “Dick” Coogan, 85, of 27 Kramer Ave., Oil City, died at 5:19 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca after a brief illness.
Born Aug. 9, 1928, in Crown, he was the son of the late James and Agnes Gregory Coogan.
Mr. Coogan retired from Foster Forbes Glass Plant, and after his retirement he drove truck with his brothers and also had worked for Selker Bros. at the Quaker State filling station on Oil City’s South Side.
Dick was a 22-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving as a radioman first class.
Dick was a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Church.
He was a member of the Pulaski Club.
Mr. Coogan enjoyed mowing his yard and spending time with Lindsey and Brady Foy and the Buchanan family.
He also enjoyed visiting the Amish in Venus and Lake Lucy and buying their goods.
He was married to the former Marguerite “Shirley” Clayton, and she preceded him in death May 9, 1988.
He is survived by three children, Shawn Coogan and his wife Elissa of Siverly, Kelly Buchanan and her fiance Bob Gluvna of Oil City, and Donna Flinspach and her husband Barry of Oil City; two sisters, Jean Bayer of Chicago, Ill., and Margaret “Peg” Sloan of Oil City and Florida; his special friends, Ruth and Gloria Buchanan and Tom and Lyn Serafin; as well as many nieces and nephews and good friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Kevin P. Coogan and an infant, Edward Coogan; and three brothers, Jim Coogan, Mike Coogan and Don Coogan.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Reinsel Funeral Home in Oil City.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in Our Lady Help of Christians Church with Fr. Shane Mathew, pastor, presiding.
Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Jay A. McConnell, 83, of Worth Township, Mercer County, passed away at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, in Grove City Medical Center with his family by his side after a short and courageous battle with cancer.
Born April 21, 1930, in Harrisville, he was a son of Charles E. and Alda M. Vincent McConnell.
Mr. McConnell was a graduate of the former Harrisville High School.
In his early years Jay was a truck driver for Pierce Trucking and then drove for Quaker State Oil and Refining for more than 32 years, retiring in 1987.
He served as a Worth Township supervisor for more than 27 years, and after his retirement he worked for McDowell Implement of Grove City.
Jay also had a love for farming and animals, he enjoyed raising beef cattle, and he enjoyed working his halflinger horses, Duke and Dan.
He was a member of Oak Grove Church in Fairview Township.
Jay served in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War veteran.
He was a member of Lake Lodge #434, Free & Accepted Masons of Sandy Lake, and the New Castle Consistory.
He served as a volunteer driver for Lakeview Area Meals on Wheels.
Jay enjoyed hunting and was a great supporter of Lakeview sports programs.
He always had time for a good conversation.
Jay loved to spend time with his family and was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
His wife of 59 years, the former Bessie Idella Bowmer, whom he married March 20, 1954, survives at home.
Also surviving is a daughter, Peggy Lengauer and her husband, Mike, of Stoneboro; two sons, Robert A. McConnell and his significant other, Barbara Thompson, of Somerset, Va., and Raymond L. McConnell and his wife, Lisa, of Wooster, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Joshua McConnell and his wife, Bethany, of Gainesville, Va., Nancy Keeling and her husband, Doug, of Hadley, Justin McConnell and his wife, Heather, of Gainesville, Va., Katie McAfoose and her husband, Joel, of Stoneboro, Amy Lengauer of Stoneboro, and twins Jacob and Jordan McConnell of Wooster, Ohio; a great-grandson, Grant McAfoose of Stoneboro; and a brother, Earl McConnell and his wife, Deanie, of Rouseville.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents.
The family would like to recognize the compassionate care they received from the doctors, nurses and staff at Grove City Medical Center who lovingly took care of Jay in his final days.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Scott A. Black Funeral Home, 99 Franklin St., Stoneboro.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Oak Grove Church, 16 Oak Grove Road, Mercer, with the Rev. Randy L. Ritchey, church pastor, officiating.

Suzanne L. Bowman formerly of 602 Walnut St. Reno, Pa. died on November 24, 2013 at the Sagebrook Health Center in Cedar Park, TX after an extended illness. She had recently moved to Texas to be with her daughter.
Born April 16, 1939 in Oil City,PA., she was the daughter of the late K. Virginia Austin Lilly.
She graduated from Rocky Grove High School in 1957.
She had worked as a clerk for 17 years for Venango County retiring in 2004.
She had also previously worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and for Polk Center.
Ms. Bowman was a member of St. Stephen’s Church in Oil City.
She is survived by one daughter, Tyann Cliffel & her husband Daniel of Cedar Park, Texas.
She is also survived by four grandchildren: Abbey, Andrew, Maggie and Paige.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday December 28, at St. Stephen’s Church with Fr. Matthew Ruyechan, Pastor, presiding.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
