Edward Isaac “Ed” Snyder

Edward Isaac “Ed” Snyder, 91, of Dutch Hill, Parker, Pa. passed away early Thursday morning (12-12-13) at his residence of natural causes.

Born on the family homestead, where he resided, on February 28, 1922, he was the son of the late William and Hazel Harriger Snyder.

Ed was a longtime member of the Concord Presbyterian Church in Perry Township. He was a lifelong dairy farmer in Perry Township, and served on the Clarion County and District Soil Conservation Board for many years.

Mr. Snyder could see the need for fire protection in Perry Township, and he and a number of residents organized the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Dept. in the early 1950’s.

He held the offices of president and treasurer many times over the years.

Ed also was a member and treasurer of the Clarion County Firemen’s Assn. for over twenty two years.

Ed hauled milk to area processing plants as well as drove truck for McCauley’s of New Bethlehem.

In later years he also drove both school and tour buses. He and his wife enjoyed participating in the art of square-dancing.

Ed is survived by his wife, the former Rose Helsel, whom he married on February 7, 1949, and one daughter, Sharon Snyder Master of Saxonburg; one sister, Sue Snyder Foust of Brookville, formerly of Perry Twp.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford Snyder. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Sunday at H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home, Inc., 201 So. Wayne Ave., Parker.

Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 PM Sunday in the funeral home with Rev. Randy Evans, Clarion-Forest VNA Hospice Chaplain, officiating.

Interment will follow at a later date at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Dutch Hill.


Shirley Sita

Shirley Sita, 87, of Sligo, PA formerly of Phillipston, PA, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Country Springs Personal Care Home in Sligo.

She was born September 16, 1926 in Phillipston, PA, the daughter of Edward S. and Sara Jane (Crawford) Vosburg.

Shirley lived in Phillipston all of her life and graduated from East Brady High School. In her younger years she worked at Schenley Distillery and later went to work in the production department at the former Clarion Owens Illinois Glass plant, a position she held for more than 20 years. Shirley was a member of East Brady United Methodist Church.

Shirely enjoyed several hobbies throughout her life. She took great pleasure in her many bus trips over the years. She was also a gifted artist and throughout her school years created many beautiful pencil sketches and drawings. Shirley was especially fond of cats and loved and nurtured many as her pets. She had a great appreciation of the outdoors and was an avid walker who could be seen walking around Phillipston every day. Those who knew her will remember her many feline friends, her kind and gentle heart, and giving nature.

Her memory will be cherished by her cousins Audrey Hile and Gene Hile, both of Karns City, and numerous other cousins.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dominick Sita, DDS, whom she married November 25, 1961 and who died November 9, 2002; and twin brother, Edward S. Vosburg, III.

Relatives and friends will be received from 11 AM until the time of funeral services at 1 PM on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 758 Main Street, Rimersburg, with the Rev. John A. Milliron officiating.

Burial will be in Rimersburg Cemetery, Rimersburg, PA.

John M. Gannon

John M. Gannon, of 18 W. 5th St., Oil City, died peacefully Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Fairview Manor in Fairview, following a brief illness.

Born March 8, 1925 in Lucinda, PA, he was the son of the late William H. and Pauline Hargenrader Gannon. He was the seventh of their 14 children.

Mr. Gannon retired as a journeyman machinist from Chicago Pneumatic Tools, Franklin, PA, in 1984. He previously worked for Pennzoil and, briefly, PG&E in Bakersfield, CA. After retirement he made deliveries for the Double Bloom Flower Shop in Oil City.

Mr. Gannon served proudly in the United States Navy, joining the service in 1943, and seeing action as a Machinist’s Mate on board LCT 659 during the Normandy Campaign. His vessel carried medical supplies to Omaha Beach on the second landing wave of the D-Day Invasion. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

Upon his return to western Pennsylvania he met Alice Catlin of Tionesta. They were married September 1, 1950. She shared his love of the outdoors and they spent much of their time camping or enjoying walks in the woods. Both belonged to the Oil City chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America. He served two terms as the club’s president and was the longtime range master, and for years, coordinated the semi-monthly muzzle loader shoots and Friday evening Junior Rifle Club instruction.

Mr. Gannon was an avid firearms enthusiast, hunter and fisherman. He counted beekeeping, gardening, and tinkering with anything mechanical, among his many hobbies.

A man of deep faith, he attended St. Stephen Church, where he served for decades as an usher at the 7:30 am Sunday Mass. A patriot, he was a member of American Legion Post 32.

He is survived by his children, Rita Johnson, and her husband Bill, of Lake City, PA, Stephen and his wife Patty of Waterville, NY; his grandchildren Brian Gannon, and Angela Meyers and her husband James of Clearwater, FL,
Mary Kate Gannon of Nashville, TN and Anthony Gannon of Waterville. Surviving siblings include his brothers Pat, Larry and Paul and a sister Edith Steel and their spouses, and brother-in-law Charles Catlin. Also surviving are dozens of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Gannon was predeceased by his wife, his oldest son Philip, three brothers and six sisters.

Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Stephen Church at 10 am Wednesday with the Rev. Matthew Ruyechan, pastor, presiding.

The family would like to thank the staff of the transitional care unit of Millcreek Community Hospital, Erie, PA and Fairview Manor, Fairview, PA, for the care they gave Mr. Gannon. Also, they would like to express their deepest gratitude to family friends Vicki Porter, a longtime neighbor, Tom and Judy Cochran, and Preston Morrow for helping Mr. Gannon continue to enjoy life independently at his beloved home on Fifth St.

Alberta Stover

Alberta Stover, 90, of Seneca, died at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family. She was a loving, dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.

Born May 25, 1923 in Newmansville, she was the daughter of the late DeWayne Albert and Orpha Slocum McCauley.

She graduated from the Shippenville High School and then attended the Oil City School of Nursing and became a licensed practical nurse.

She and husband belonged to the A.M. Mall Walkers at the Cranberry Mall.

Mrs. Stover was a member of the Heckathorn United Methodist Church where she participated with the Homemaker’s Club, making crafts.

Alberta and her husband enjoyed traveling and were fortunate to go to places such as Jerusalem, Egypt, and Hawaii. They traveled together to every U.S. state except for Alaska. She was well known in the family for her coleslaw and her pie crusts.

She was employed as a nurse at the Oil City Hospital for 27 years, and following that she did private duty nursing in the area.

She was married on June 1, 1944 to Merle L. Stover, and he preceded her in death on August 6, 1999.

Surviving are four children, Albert D. Stover and wife Joyce of Seneca, Carolyn Seegers and husband Gerald, of Keithville, Louisiana, Rhea D. Hale and husband Harvey of Seneca, with whom she made her home with for the past seven years, and Lawrence C. Stover and wife Debra of Franklin; nineteen grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friends John and Judy Riley of Seneca.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two grandsons, John and Ronald Stover; two brothers, Glen Berdell McCauley and John David McCauley; and a sister, Irene Isabelle Shields.

A private viewing and funeral service will be held for the family in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc., in Seneca, Cranberry Township, with the Rev. Rob Kifer, pastor of Heckathorn United Methodist Church, officiating.

Entombment will follow in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens in Cranberry.

Elizabeth Ruth “Sis” Andrews

Elizabeth Ruth “Sis” Andrews, 88, of Franklin, died at 12:50 PM on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at the Caring Place.

A daughter of the late Hulbert and Beulah Shaffer Stanton she was born December 19, 1924 in Shanksville, PA.

Mrs. Andrews was a member of the Sugarcreek United Methodist Church.

Employed as a secretary, she had worked 13 years for the Valley Grove School District and for three years in the Purchasing Department of Franklin Steel.

She had been an avid bridge player who enjoyed golf and duckpin bowling at both the Franklin Elks Lodge and the former Franklin Club. Elizabeth and her husband had traveled extensively, having visited more than nine countries.

Surviving are two sons, Craig Andrews and wife Kimberly of Franklin; Dennis Andrews and wife Judi of Laguna Hills, CA; a daughter, Margaret Heydrick and husband Christopher of Scottsdale, AZ; three sisters, Malden Peters of California; Lois McCauly of Endocino, CA; Aleda Morris of Onalaska, TX; nine grandchildren; Lisa Noon and husband Patrick of Scottsdale, AZ, Lori Ibach and husband BJ of Jacksonville, FL; Marc Andrews of Incline Village, NV; Jody Mietus and wife Sarah of Franklin; Marissa Osborn of Grove City; Marinda Osborn of Grove City; Ryan Andrews and wife Amanda of Simmisport, LA; Jessie Carrethers of South Dakota; Michelle Rhodenizer and husband Brian of Richmond, VA; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Andrews; and a son, Chris Andrews.

Friends will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin on Monday, December 16, 2013 from 3-7 PM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home, with Pastor Karen Kostur of the Sugarcreek United Methodist Church officiating.

Interment will be in Cochranton Cemetery.

Carol Pardee Sherick

Carol Pardee Sherick, 81 of Mechanicsburg and formerly of Oil City, PA, passed away Monday, December 9, 2013 at Select Specialty Hospital in Harrisburg.

Born September 22, 1932 in Oil City, she was the daughter of the late George Pardee and Mary Cavanaugh.

Carol retired as an administrative assistant with Quaker State Corporate Headquarters in Oil City. She was a graduate of Cranberry Area High School and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where she sang in the church choir. Carol enjoyed many activities; one of her favorite past times was her weekly Bridge game with her close friends and vacationing with her family.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband William G. Sherick and by their daughter Amy G. Ochalek. Surviving are her two sons, Scott W. Sherick and his wife Bridget of Carlisle; Steven J. Sherick and his wife Patricia of Mechanicsburg; four grandchildren Sarah Rumberger (Corey), Katelyn Sherick, Christopher McKlveen (Christine), Jesse McKlveen (Jill); two great grandchildren Dean and Felicity McKlveen and a brother George Pardee.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1480 Jerusalem Road, Mechanicsburg. Visitation and time of fellowship with the family will take place immediately following the services in the church social hall.

Roxanne S. Adams, 62, of 22 Crestview Dr, Oil City, died at 1:15 pm, Friday, December 13, 2013, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born May 26, 1951 in Oil City, she was a daughter of the late William J. and Margaret J. Miller Struthers.

Roxanne was a 1969 graduate of Oil City High School.

She was an employee of GTE and Liberty Electronics.

Roxanne enjoyed decorating, and spending time with her family and her cat.

On May 12, 1973 she was married to Richard Lee Adams, who survives.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Bryan James Adams of West lake OH; three sisters, Rebecca Smrekar and husband Philip of Titusville, Joyce Beichner and Husband Joseph of Emporium, and Edna Bowen and husband John of Seneca; and three brothers, William Struthers, Jr. of Oil City, Richard Lee Struthers and wife Julia of Oil City, and Joseph Charles Struthers of Oil City.

Also surviving are nieces and nephews, William M. Struthers and wife Donna of Illinois, Joseph Struthers and wife Brenda of Oil City, David Smith and wife Shontelle of Florida, Margaret Beichner of Maryland, Jerry Beichner of Emporium, Rachel Drake of Oil City, Andrew Struthers and wife Jessica of Reno, Rochelle Cressman and husband Toby of Titusville, Shannon Scannel of Pittsburgh, Seth Scannel of Pittsburgh, Dani Wolfgong and husband Matt of Brookville, and Chris Campagna and wife Beth of Baltimore MD; several great nieces and great nephews; and an extended family of Tina, Ryan, Eric and Neil McMahon of Oil City.

In addition to her parents, Roxanne was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Charles Adams; a brother, Thomas Henry Struthers; a sister, Jean Marie Struthers; and a nephew, Dylan Thomas Smith.

At Roxanne’s request, there will be no visitation and services will be private for the family.

Interment will be in Brandon Cemetery.

Russell Eugene Himes

Russell Eugene Himes, age 87, passed away on December 14, 2013 at the Clarion Hospital. Born on December 7, 1926 in Cool Spring, Jefferson County, he was the son of the late Clayton and Orpha A. (Mauck) Himes.

On November 8, 1953, Russ married the former Carolyn June Wensel. They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage and raising a family.

After high school, Russ served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II. He later was educated as an electrician, and worked for 39 years as an electrician for Owens-Illinois in Clarion before retiring in 1992. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed flying his own airplane. He attended the Assembly of God churches in Clarion and Brookville.

Russ is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his son, Kevin E. Himes and his wife Jackie of Clarion; his daughter Gwendolyn Carol Bailey are her husband Gary of Curwensville; his 5 grandchildren, Rebekah Bailey, Kari Krause and her husband Isaiah, Anna Bailey, Sarah Bailey, and Colby Himes; and his 2 great-grandchildren, Ava and Shaylee Krause. He is also survived by a brother, Junior Clayton Himes and his wife Cathy of Summerville; and his sister, Ruby Harper of Jamestown NY.

In addition to his parents, Russ was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah Kathryn Himes in 2000; and his four brothers, Allen, Kenneth, Reed, and Ray Himes.

Memorial donation may be made in Russ’s honor to the Cancer Center at Clarion Hospital.

Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street, Clarion where visitation will be held from 10 – 11 am on Tuesday, December 17. Funeral services will follow immediately at 11:00am on Tuesday in the funeral home with Rev. Gary Bailey, Russ’s son-in-law, officiating. Interment will be in the Cedarview Memorial Park.

Thomas R. Burns Sr.

Thomas R. Burns Sr., 89 of 14329 Rt. 68 Sligo died at 7:07 PM Saturday December 14, 2013 at Clarview Nursing & Rehab. Center near Sligo following a period of failing health.

Born in Licking Twp. May 29, 1924 he was the son of Thomas S. and Rachael Rhea Burns. Tom was a self employed dairy farmer all of life as the owner of Burns Farms and also Burns Trucking of Sligo. He was married June 15, 1945 to the former Norene Elliott and she survives. Tom hosted picnics for the PA Farm Bureau, enjoyed hunting, and entertaining family and friends throughout the year at his camp near Callensburg.

In addition to wife Tom is survived by 3 sons; Thomas R. Burns Jr. of Sligo, Steve Burns and his wife Wendy of Curllsville, and Randy Burns and his wife Trudi of Callensburg, 11 grandchildren; Greg Burns and his friend Amanda, Doug Burns and his wife Janet, Robbie Burns, Clint Burns and his wife Dusty, Stephanie Frances and her husband Ronnie, Billy Burns and his fiancee Abbey, Clay Burns, Shawn Burns, Randon Burns Jr., Katie Mullet and her husband Mason, and Brian Burns and his wife Lori, and 4 greatgrandsons; Nathaniel, Carter, Caden, and Elliott. In addition to his parents he was preced in death by 2 sisters; Olga Straub and Velma Elliott, and a grandson Thomas R. Burns III.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Tuesday December 17, 2013 at the Varner Funeral Home in Sligo. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Wednesday December 18, 2013 from the funeral home with Rev. Larry Piper, pastor of the Sligo Chapel, and Rev. Raymond E. Beers Sr.

Raymond E. Beers, Sr., 87, of Roseland Ave. , Seneca, went to be with the Lord at 8:32 p.m. Saturday, December 14, 2013 at his residence.

Raymond was born in Franklin on September 22, 1926. He was the son of Arthur and Elsie Shields Beers.

He was a graduate of Franklin High School.

Ray was a talented baseball player and prior to the onset of World War II, he may have been on his way to becoming a ‘major leaguer.’ He played baseball for a year while in Japan, and then played ball locally in the Hayrake league for many years and enjoyed attending the annual league banquet. He was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Yankees fan. He enjoyed watching professional football and was a Cleveland Browns fan. He enjoyed dancing and big band music.

Mr. Beers was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the infantry in the Pacific Theatre. Raymond was among the first troops to occupy Japan.

He was employed by Joy Manufacturing in Franklin for over 45 years and retired from their shipping department. Ray was an officer in the International Associations of Machinists Local 1842, and traveled extensively on behalf of the union.

Ray was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church in Oil City. He was also a volunteer for many years at the hospital, both in Franklin and in Seneca.

Mr. Beers was married for over forty years to his first wife, Rita Ione Olsen Beers, who preceded him in death on May 11, 1989.

On September 19, 1998 he married the former Mabel Rector, and she survives.

He is also survived by two children, Raymond E. Beers, Jr. and wife Linda and Dianna Lynn Judson, all of Franklin; and a stepson, Robert C. Hallman and wife Louise of Westerville, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Michael J. “Mickey” Beers, Jason C. Beers and wife Julie, Erica R. Alcorn and husband Eddy, Yvonne Cutchall, Shannon M. Cutchall, Shelly Bell and companion Charles Lamberton, Adrian Kuzma, Richard Judson and companion Garbriel Forsell, and Jennifer Judson and fiancé Paul White; three step-grandchildren, Renee, Jordan and Michael Hallman; sixteen great-grandchildren, including a very close great-granddaughter, Allison Hedglin and husband Rustie; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents and his first wife, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Andrea Bell and John Judson; a son-in-law, Joseph “Ted” Judson; two sisters, Evelyn Beers and Doris Seyler; and a brother, Arthur Beers, Jr.; and a brother-in-law, Robert Seyler. Raymond was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Friends will be received Tuesday (Dec. 17th) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc., 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township. A funeral service will be held Wednesday (Dec. 18th) at 11 a.m. in Good Hope Lutheran Church, 800 Moran Street, Oil City, with the Rev. Philip H. Scherr, church pastor, officiating. A committal service will be held at the church following the funeral service, where full military funeral honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard.

Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens in Cranberry.

Mary Jane Gabrys

Mary Jane Gabrys of Franklin, died at 9:50 AM on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at The Caring Place in Franklin.

Born April 16, 1928 in Oil City, Mrs. Gabrys was the daughter of the late Vincent V. and Mary C. Malek Wnuk.

She graduated from Oil City High School in 1946 and attended Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, and studied at Behrend Campus of Penn State University in Erie.

She was employed by the News Herald in Franklin for 24 years where she served as the Society Editor and also wrote a weekly column on antiques and collectables. She retired in 1989.

Mrs. Gabrys was a member of St. Patrick’s Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and the Altar Rosary Society of the Church. She was active in community events and was a charter member of the League of Women Voters, and served on the boards of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, the Venango County Historical Society, and the Historic Franklin Preservation Association. She was also a member of the Wednesday Club and the Venango County Republican Women’s Club.

Mrs. Gabrys was listed in “Who’s Who of American Women” and the Bicentennial Edition of the “American Catholic Who’s Who”.

She had an avid interest in antiques and had written articles for several publications.

An alumnus of Assumption B.V.M. School in Oil City, she initiated plans for the first and only reunion held for all who attended the school until its closing.

In 1976 she was selected for inclusion into the Library of Human Resources of the American-Bicentennial Research Institute in recognition for professional and civic attainment within the community.

She was married to Edward W. Gabrys on July 29, 1950 in the Assumption B.V.M. Church in Oil City, and he preceded her in death on January 7, 2007.

Mrs. Gabrys is survived by her son, E. William Gabrys II and his wife, Marilyn, of Franklin, and her daughter, M. Rebecca Badgett and her husband, Dr. John L. Badgett, of Slippery Rock. She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren: Edward V. Gabrys of Buffalo, NY, Emily E. Kern and her husband, Jeff of Erie, William P. Gabrys and Julia F. Gabrys, both of Franklin, and Jennifer R. Badgett and Jesse W. Badgett, both of Slippery Rock.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Gabrys was preceded in death by her brother, Vincent J. Wnuk.

The family will receive friends at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 from 3-5 and 7-9 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at St. Patrick Church with Monsignor John Herbein presiding.

Interment will be in St. Patrick Cemetery.

Evangeline (Angie) L. Best, 82, of Knox died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at the Clareview Nursing and Rehab Center following a brief illness.

Born March 10, 1931, in Grange, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Esther Smith.

Angie worked for Knox Glass for 25 years.

She enjoyed playing bingo, reading, fishing and watching the Steelers and loved her cat, Calico.

On Nov. 29, 1968, she married Nevin Best, who preceded her in death in 1992.

Angie is survived by three children, Sara (Gary) Neal of Clarion, Linda (Joe) Botts of Strattanville and Gary (Lisa) Neal of Warsaw, N.Y.; a stepson, Wayne (Helen) Best of Shippenville; eight grandchildren, Sue, Robin, Trudy, Julie, Darcy, Sabrina, Nikki, and Roxie; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grand children; and a sister, Alice (Wilmer) McQuown.

Along with her parents and husband, Angie was preceded in death by a son, Robert Neal Jr.; two grandsons, Stanley Botts and Paul Botts; twin great-great-granddaughters McKenzie; four brothers, Levi Smith, Joe Smith, Bob Smith and Maurice Smith; and four sisters, Twila Enterline, Maude Whitehill, Alda Maloof, and Mary Smith.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the McEntire-Weaver Funeral Home, Inc., 504 E. Penn St., Knox.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Dan Myers, pastor of the Mount Joy United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will follow in Cedar View Cemetery in Strattanville.

Charles W. Stephenson

Charles W. Stephenson, 80, of 807 Allegheny Ave. Oil City, PA. died peacefully at home on Sunday Dec. 15, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimers Disease.

Born Dec. 25, 1932 in Sharon, PA., he was the son of the late George W. Stephenson & I. Marie Henshaw Stephenson.

He graduated from Ridgway High School.

A veteran of the United States Army, he was a Corporal serving from March 26, 1953 until March 23, 1955 and had received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

On Feb. 4, 1956 he was married to the former Mary Jo DeStefano in St. Leo’s Church in Ridgway and she survives. Mr. Stephenson worked as a crew chief for National Fuel Gas Co. and retired in 1993 after 43 years of service with the company.

He was a member of St. Stephen’s Church, the Oil City Izaak Walton and a former member of the Oil City K of C.

He was a handyman, and could always be found tinkering in the basement or working on something for somebody.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was always with his kids or grandkids. He was a master at Flint Lock.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Jerry Stephenson & his wife Liz of Oil City, Julie Kelley & her husband Joseph of California, Mary Jane Verhoff & her husband Jeff of Oil City, Jeff Stephenson of Oil City, Suzanne Vavala & her husband Dino of Warren, PA., 10 grandchildren, Matt & Brett Stephenson, Savanah Goodwin & her husband Chris, Morgan Kelley, Kurt, Samantha Horne, Jonathan Verhoff, Renee Stephenson, Jennifer Douglas and Angelina Vavala, 2 step-grandchildren, James & Nina Vavala, 2 great grandchildren, Kyle Horne and Ellie Goodwin, one brother, Robert (Bob) Stephenson & his wife Sharyn of Oil City And several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and from 7-9 P.M. Thursday in the Reinsel Funeral Home & Crematory Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Friday in St. Stephen’s Church with Rev. Matthew Ruyechan, Pastor, Presiding.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with Full Militray Honors accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard.

Rev. George D. McDaniel, 84, of Cranberry, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, December 15th, 2013 at UPMC Northwest in Seneca, following a brief illness.

Born January 17, 1929 in Shippenville, Rev. McDaniel was the son of the late Elmer and Lucy Hines McDaniel. He was married September 20, 1958 to the former Shirley Snyder, and she survives.

Rev. McDaniel was a graduate of St. Paul Bible College in Minnesota. He worked at Joy Manufacturing for more than 20 years, and had also at one time been the Chaplain at Polk Center and at Northwest Medical Center in Seneca. . He was an active member and clergy of the Christian and Missionary Alliance and Free Methodist Churches, and enjoyed the fellowship of his church families. He enjoyed shooting his BB Gun, his retirement and the times he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a kind, compassionate and devoted husband, who had a great love for his family.

In addition to his wife, Rev. McDaniel is survived by his sons, Keith McDaniel of Texas City, Texas, and Kevin McDaniel and his wife, Pamela, of Titusville; and his daughter, Katrina O’Neil and her husband, Douglas, of Cranberry.

He is also survived by his 15 grandchildren: Eben McDaniel, Anica McDaniel, Hana McDaniel, Petr McDaniel, Gemma McDaniel, Morea McDaniel, Rockne McDaniel, Daniel McDaniel, Emma Droddy and her husband, Samuel, Kara O’Neil, Laura O’Neil, Lydia O’Neil, Emily O’Neil, Calvin O’Neil, and Andrew O’Neil; and his 2 great-grandchildren, John Malachy McDaniel and Wisdom McDaniel.

In addition to his parents, Rev. McDaniel was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Karen; his grandson, Aric McDaniel; and his foster daughter, Tina Barr.

Family and friends of Rev. McDaniel will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin on Wednesday, December 18th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the Franklin Alliance Church at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 19th with Rev. Larry Aldrich and Rev. Scott Woodlee, co-officiating.

Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery.

Robert E. Davies, 82, of Ft. Pierce, FL, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2013, after a brief illness.

Bob was born May 8, 1931 in Erie, PA. He graduated from Cathedral Preparatory School and Gannon College. He is a Veteran of the US Army Corps of Engineers in Ft. Bragg, NC. Bob was employed as a Technical Writer at GE Transportation and then in advertising at Mitchell Advertising, Erie, PA. He and his family moved to Oil City, PA where he worked as VP of Marketing at the Northwest Pa. Bank & Trust headquarters in Oil City, PA. He owned and operated Dusty Corner Antiques in Reno, PA until his retirement.

Bob was an avid huntsman and fly-fisherman.

He was the loving husband of Dorothy McDonald Davies – having just celebrated 60 years of marriage on August 8, 2013. He is survived by daughters: Kerri Whittle and Sam of Stuart, FL, Jennifer Monocello and Lawrence of Erie, PA; grandchildren Ian, Emma and Eric Turner and Lawrence Jr, Alexis, and Dominic Monocello.

He was preceded in death by his parents Emerson Davies and Gladys Davies; brother Raymond Davies; and daughter, Elizabeth Ann Spencer.

Patricia L. Wentworth (née: Hanna), age 74, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, in Goose Creek, S.C.

Patricia was born on Feb. 17, 1939, in Franklin, Pa. She was the daughter of Richard K. and Gail E. DeWoody Hanna. Patricia married Edward Wentworth on June 6, 1959, in Cochranton, Pa. She graduated from Franklin High School in 1957 and from Bryant and Stratton Business College in Buffalo, N.Y., in 1959. Pat was a member of Peace Presbyterian Church in Goose Creek, S.C.

Patricia worked as an Administrator for the Ashtabula Medical Center in Ashtabula, Ohio, and retired in 1980.

In addition to her husband, survivors include her daughter, Sharon (Bill) Snyder of Summerville, S.C.; son, Richard Wentworth of Belmont, Ohio; grandchildren, Heather and Brittany Wentworth of Ashtabula, Ohio, Matt and Morgan Snyder of Summerville, S.C., and Allison Lister of Geneva, Ohio; sister, Cynthia (Mark) Goodman of Pittsburgh, Pa.; aunts, Shirley Sheehan of Cochranton, Pa., and Ellen DeWoody of Sweden; brother-in-law, Bob (Karen) Wentworth of North Kingsville, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Sidney (David) Knapp of Meadville, Pa., Patricia Hanna of Colonia, N.J., and Sandy Wentworth of Meadville, Pa.; son-in-law, Larry Lister of Geneva, Ohio; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother; another brother, William Hanna; and daughter, Elaine Wentworth Lister.

A Private Family Service will be held and an internment will be in the Cochranton Cemetery in Cochranton, Pa.

Dorothy L. Boner Webster, 93, of Oil City, formerly of Titusville, died peacefully at 5:42 p.m. on Monday, December 16, 2013, at the home of her daughter in Erie, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born March 10, 1920 in Grove City to the late Vern and Gladys Mason Peters.

Mrs. Webster was a 1937 graduate of Rocky Grove High School.

She was employed by G.T.E. Sylvania in Titusville for 33 years, retiring in 1983.

Mrs. Webster was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Oil City. She enjoyed bowling, golf, and playing cards.

She served as a volunteer at the former Oil City Hospital, and was a member of the Gallivantars Club of the Y.W.C.A. , the Prime Time Club, and the G.T.E. Sylvania retiree’s group.

She was married on June 27, 1937 to Joseph Boner, who preceded her in death on July 23, 1963. She later married Francis Webster on July 25, 1973, and he preceded her in death on May 11, 1987.

Surviving are two daughters, Sonja Swanson and her husband Phil of Erie, and Judy Snyder and husband Dan of Titusville; seven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Liz Foley of Michigan; her sister, Dixie Hornburg of Arizona; her brother, Bob Peters and wife Betsy of Washington; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Also surviving are three step-children, Barb Thomas and husband Fred, Betty Hovis, and Gary Webster and wife Joyce; and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2014 in Grace United Methodist Church, 100 Central Ave. in Oil City, with the Rev. Byron K. Myers, church pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Titusville.
