William M. (“Bill”) Snyder

William M. (“Bill”) Snyder, 66, of 853 Mercer Road, Franklin, PA died at 2:10 AM, January 16, 2014 at his residence following a two year battle with cancer.

Born July 12, 1947 in Franklin, Bill was the son of the late Robert E. and Thelma A. (Lubold) Snyder. He grew up in Polk and was a 1965 graduate of Franklin High School.

He proudly served his country in the United States Navy.

On August 9, 1969 Bill married the former Linda Baker, who survives.

Mr. Snyder loved playing baseball. Golf was his passion. He enjoyed his fishing trips to Canada, hunting for mule deer and antelope out west, and his many golf vacations down south. Bill loved attending his granddaughters’ sports games and dance recitals. He coached little league for many years. Bill enjoyed going to breakfast on Saturdays with his childhood friend, Joe Sechler. He especially enjoyed all of the buckwheat and sausage breakfasts in the area and the Polk Firehall breakfasts.

Bill retired from the I.B.E.W. Local #5 after over 40 years of employment. His two favorite employers were Hey Electric of Butler and Lanco Electric of New Kensington.

Mr. Snyder enjoyed watching golf and many westerns on television. His favorite westerns were John (Duke) Wayne. Bill named his Airedale, Duke.

In addition to his wife, Linda (Baker) Snyder, Bill is survived by his daughter, Tamara Shields and her husband, Corey of Franklin; two sons, Timothy Snyder of Franklin and William (“B.J.”) Snyder and his wife, Amy of Greenville, PA.

Also surviving is his sister, Janet Heffern and her husband, Walter of Utica; brothers, R. Edward Snyder of New Mexico and Ronald Snyder of Philadelphia; and his four grandchildren, Laken Shields, currently studying at Thiel College, Skylar Shields of Franklin, Rebecca H. Snyder, currently studying at Edinboro University, and Paxton J. Snyder of Greenville.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In accordance with his wishes, Bill will be cremated. There will be no visitation or services. The Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, PA is handling the arrangements.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Sandycreek Fire Department, Polk Fire Rescue, and/or the Franklin Public Library.

James “Jimmy” McClellan

James “Jimmy” McClellan, 50, of East Liverpool, passed away, Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014.

He was born April 11, 1963, in Franklin, Pa., a son of Lois Deeter Reed of East Liverpool and the late Glenn McClellan.

He was also preceded in death by a stepfather, Jerry Reed.

Besides his mother, he leaves behind a son, Shawn McClellan of Boardman; three brothers, Darryl (Julie) McClellan of East Liverpool, Tim McClellan of Pennsylvania and Glenn (Reanee Hrycko) McClellan of East Liverpool; three sisters, Peggy Strub of East Liverpool, Carol Wright of Ohio and Penny Roos of Pennsylvania; a maternal grandmother, Helen Gibson of Pennsylvania; and two stepbrothers, Bruce Reed and Todd Reed both of Pennsylvania.

Visitation will be held at the Nixon Funeral Home in Newell on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, from 1-3 p.m. with funeral services at 3 p.m.

Phillip Andrew Blakley

Phillip Andrew Blakley, 62, of Causeway Drive, Franklin, passed away at 3:30 a.m. on Friday, January 17th, at UPMC Passavant in Pittsburgh, following a brief illness.

Born September 16, 1951 in Grove City, Phillip was the son of James and Lucille Tarsela Blakley. He was a US Army Vietnam Veteran. He worked at Polk Center as a Resident Service Aide. Phillip enjoyed relaxing, watching television (especially the sci-fi channel), working on cars, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Phillip is survived by his daughter, Stacy Smith of Franklin; his brothers, John Blakley and his wife, Sandy, of Cranberry, and Terry Blakley of Franklin; and his sister, Cindy Morrow and her husband, Curt, of Franklin. Phillip is also survived by his grandchildren, Brandon Miller, Paige Winder and Parker Smith, all of Franklin.

In addition to his parents, Phillip was preceded in death by his sister, Linda.

Family and friends will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Sunday, January 19 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Funeral Home following visitation at 2 p.m., with Rev., Karen Kostur, pastor of the Sugarcreek United Methodist Church, officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the local V.E.T.S. Honor Guard. Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery.

Victor H. Slagle

Victor H. Slagle, 78, of Cranberry, passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday afternoon, January 16, 2014.

He was born August 28, 1935 in Climax, Armstrong County, to the late Manuel and Nellie Anthony Slagle.

He attended Oil City schools and was of the Methodist faith.

Vic enjoyed hunting and fishing; taking bus trips to the area casinos; and attending the school events of his granddaughters.

Mr. Slagle retired in 1998 from Joy Manufacturing in Franklin, where he was employed as a mechanic for thirty-one years.

He was married in Seneca on October 1, 1955 to the former Helen G. Hartzell, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Penny J. Perry and husband Donald of Oil City and Tracey Pettit and husband Blaine of Dempseytown; two granddaughters, Nicole LaBonde of Miami, Florida and Valerie D. Perry of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Mary Belle Gerard of Erie; two brothers, James Slagle and wife Sandy of Oil City, and Denver Slagle; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Gregory Dean Slagle; and a favorite uncle, Chalmer “Hilt” Anthony.

Friends will be received Sunday (Jan. 19th) from noon until 5 p.m. in Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc., 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home Monday (Jan. 20) at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Linda Dinger, pastor of Cranberry United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery in Van, Cranberry Township, Venango County.

Susan L. (Keefer) Myers

Susan L. (Keefer) Myers, 62, of Clarion, passed away Friday January 17, 2014 at home.

Susan was born on January 21, 1951 in Brookville, the daughter of Ruth L. Keefer.

Susan lived in the Clarion area all of her life and attended Keystone High School. She was a mother and homemaker and worked as a secretary in the Marwick-Boyd Art Gallery at Clarion University for several years.

Susan was a member of the Strattanville United Methodist Church.

Susan enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, cooking, reading, traveling and playing bingo. Baking cookies and going on bus trips with her grandchildren will be a special memory.

Susan’s greatest joy in life was her daughters and she will be greatly missed by Shelbi Wolbert and her husband Bill of Clarion, Sheila Vasbinder and her husband Bob of Rimersburg, Sharon Stewart of Clarion, and Shannon Rearick and her fiance Jerry, of Rimersburg; granchildren Cara, Carter, and Curtis Shipley, Isaac and Nathan Vasbinder, Justin Stewart, Ryan Sharp, Zoe Shaffer and Ted and Ben Rearick; and great-grandchildren Avery and Vincent Shipley.

Susan was preceded in death by her mother and her sister, Judy Lytle.

Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street in Clarion where visitation will be held from 10-11am on Tuesday January 21, 2014 with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 am. Rev. Nancy Zahn, Pastor of the Strattanville United Methodist Church, will officiate.


George Earl Burkett

George Earl Burkett, 78, Punxsutawney, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 17, 2014, at home with his family by his side.

Mr. Burkett was born February 24, 1935, in Oliver Township, a son of the late Russell and Leona (McAninch) Burkett.

On July 14, 1956, he married Dolores (Reed) Burkett, who survives.

Mr. Burkett was a member of the Grange Church of God.

He is a Veteran of the United States Army, having served in Germany.

He was a former employee of Youngstown Welding and Engineering in Youngstown, Ohio, and Machining Enterprises, Inc. of Punxsutawney before becoming a full time dairy farmer. He later raised beef cattle and horses and continued to crop farm.

He enjoyed working outdoors, farming, hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include a son Timothy Burkett and wife Sandra of Punxsutawney, a daughter Tamie Malencia and husband Ken of Butler; five grandchildren, Kayla, Kelsey and Nathan Burkett of Punxsutawney, and Austin and Sean Malencia of Butler; and a sister Delores London and husband Irvin of Punxsutawney.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, John, James, Jacob, and David Burkett; and two sisters, Mary Bowser and Elsie Geist.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday, January 18, 2014, and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, January 19, 2014, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, January 20, 2014, at the funeral home, with Pastor Janis Bracken officiating.

Interment will be in Markton Cemetery.

The family has suggested that memorials may be made to The Grange Church of God or The Oliver Township Fire Company.

Dorothy Ryen, 96, formerly of Punxsutawney, PA, died Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Jefferson Manor in Brookville, PA.

She was born on August 14, 1917 in Punxsutawney, PA, the daughter of the late John and Ruth Deitman.

She was married to Floyd C. Ryen who preceded her in death on April 8, 2001.

She was a long-time employee of Rola-Jensen of Punxsutawney, PA.

She was a member of the Canoe Ridge Church of God.

She is survived by two sons, Donald J. Ryen and wife Cheryl of Punxsutawney, PA; Jack Ryen and wife Joyce of Brandywine, MD; three daughters, Shirley Rainey of Hubbard, OH; Diane Prutznal and husband Joe of North Tonawanda, NY; and Barbara Keller of North Tonawanda, NY; two brothers, Robert Deitman and Carl “Butch” Deitman; and by three sisters, Mildred Bash, Patricia Rankin and Judy McDonald.

She is also survived by 22 Grandchildren………17 Great-Grandchildren…..and10 Great-Great-Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Eva Jean McCracken and one son, Kenneth Ryen; and by nine brothers and sisters, and two grandsons.

Friends will be received at the Richard L. Fait Funeral Home in Punxsutawney, PA on Friday, January 17, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 and on Saturday, January 18, 2014 from 10-11

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Pastor Earl Flick officiating.

Interment will follow at Union Hill Cemetery at Rossiter, PA

The family suggests that donations in memory of Mrs. Ryen be made to the Canoe Ridge Church of God or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Diana A.G. Barnes-Clark, age 50, of Tionesta, PA, died on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.

She was born October 11, 1963 in Harbor City, California, daughter of Sharon J. (McGee) Shulin, who survives in Tionesta, and the late Duane E. Barnes.

Diana received her Bachelor’s Degree in Juvenile Justice at Granite State College in New Hampshire and formerly was employed at Abraxas in Marienville, PA. She attended the Tionesta Church of God.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by two sons, Matthew Henson and his wife Heidi, and Andrew Henson, all of Arkansas. A daughter, Amanda Henson of Massachusetts. Two grandchildren, Destiny Henson of Georgia, and Wyatt Henson of Arkansas. Three brothers, Patrick and David Barnes, both of Las Vegas, and Vincent R. Shulin of Tionesta. Two sisters, Sarah C. Girardi and her husband Dr. David Girardi DO of Clarion, PA, and Ellen G. Shulin of Tionesta. Several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father, Diana was preceded in death by an Aunt, Kathleen S. Rokey.

Friends will be received at the Norman J. Wimer Funeral Home of Tionesta on Wednesday from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 1:30 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Randy L. Evans, Clarion/Forest VNA Hospice Chaplin, officiating. Burial at Riverside Cemetery, Tionesta.

Daniel Ernest Estadt II

Daniel Ernest Estadt II, of Pinoak Circle in Oil City, a native of Clarion, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 18, 2014. He was 50 years old.

Danny was born on May 20, 1963 in Natrona Heights, PA, the youngest son of Daniel E. and Marian (Seigel) Estadt.

He attended Clarion Area High School where he was a letterman in football and basketball. Danny also played baseball in Little League, Senior League and American League. He graduated from Clarion University of PA in 1986.

Danny’s business career included working for his family’s sporting good store in Clarion, Nike in Chicago, IL, and an insurance company in Charlotte, NC. Fifteen years ago, he made a move back home to Pennsylvania and opened his own insurance and notary services firm in Seneca. Danny was a member of numerous business and industry organizations including the Oil City Chamber.

In his spare time, Danny enjoyed fly-fishing, golf, and SCUBA diving.

Danny is survived by his mother, Mame Estadt of Shippenville; his brother, Dave Estadt and his wife Andrea of Clarion; his sister, Kelley Rupert and her husband Jon of Saxonburg; his niece, Lindsay Jankowski and her husband Joe of Gibsonia and his great-niece Haley Jankowski; his nephew, Mark Rupert of Wexford; his nephew, Jake Rupert of Saxonburg; his niece, Elizabeth Estadt of Clarion; his aunts and uncles, Genna Schwartz of AZ, Paul and Raine Siegel of Erie, Bill and Marcia Siegel of Pittsburgh, Larry Siegel of Lucinda, Edna Siegel of Erie, John and Debbie Burford of Clarion, Mickey and Jim Bowersox of Clarion, and Nancy Estadt of Boston; and his special friend Pam Lockhart of Butler and her children Erin & Colin. Danny will also be missed by Romeo, his English lab.

Elsie Miller Burk

Elsie Miller Burk, 93, formerly of the Coal Hill area, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 6:43 am, Sunday, January 19, 2014, at The Caring Place in Franklin.

Born February 17, 1920 in Oil City, she was a daughter of the late Sheldon and Jennie Silzle Blauser.

Mrs. Burk attended Cranberry High School.

She worked as a housekeeper for Venango Federal, Venango Campus and several residences.

Mrs. Burk attended the Seneca Evangelical Congregational Church, then the Church of God in Fern.

She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, crossword puzzles, bingo and always made delicious Sunday dinners.

On September 19, 1936 she married Raymond Miller, Sr., who preceded her in death on June 28, 1993. On December 10, 1994 she married Clarence Burk, who preceded her on August 6, 1996.

Surviving are 5 sons, Raymond “Bill” Miller, Jr. of Franklin, James Miller of York, Donald Miller of Seneca, Gordon Miller of Kentucky and John Miller of Cooperstown; 5 daughters, Janice Warring of Seneca, Delores Frantz of Oil City, Linda Hall of Seneca, Fay Sharpe of Seneca and Gay Swartz of Franklin; 28 grandchildren among who is Keith Miller who was raised by Elsie and Raymond Miller; and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Also surviving are a brother, Paul Blauser of Maple Shade; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Wilmer Blauser, Burdell Blauser, Thirston Blauser, Harold Blauser and Norman Blauser; and 6 sisters, Marian Kleck, Ruth Knight, Evelyn Weaver, Leola Karns, Lois Bidwell and Carmen Blauser.

Friends will be received at the Morrison Funeral Home on Wednesday from 12 noon to 2 pm.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 2 pm Wednesday with the Pastor Trevor Hanna, of the Living Word Church, officiating.

Interment will be in the Heckathorn Cemetery.

Steven A. Copley

Steven A. Copley, 52, of 30 Selden Ave, Oil City, died Saturday, January 18, 2014, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca, following a brief battle with cancer.

Born December 17, 1961 in Bradford, he was a son of William Albert “Tweet” and Judy Copley.

Steve worked as a CNC programmer at SMS Millcraft.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling, gardening and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

On July 31, 1982, he married the former Mary Rita Hogue, who survives.

In addition to his wife, Steve is survived by a son, Nathan Copley and daughter Abigail of Oil City; and a daughter Tiffany Copley and children Kylee Copley and Aidan Copley, of Oil City.

Also surviving are his step mother Judy Copley of Oil City; his biological mother, Nancy Joan Edwards of Oil City; two brothers, William Copley Jr. and wife Janet, and their children Danielle, Michael, Katie and Sarah, of Oil City, and Richard Edwards of Oil City; six sisters, Kim Copley Harris and husband Gene of Cooperstown, Brenda Stevenson and husband Ike and daughters Stephanie and Jennifer of Kaneville, Tammy Holcomb and husband Ron and family of Georgia, Millie Uscianowski and husband John and family of Youngstown OH, Jamie Edwards and family of Oil City, and Nancy Arroyo and husband Guarionex and family of Franklin; a step brother, Thomas McMunn and wife Amanda and family of Titusville; and a special uncle and aunt, Denny and Kathy Daugherty and family of Oil City.

Steve was preceded in death by his father and a brother Jeff Johnson.

Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 am Tuesday.

Interment will be in Rynd Farm Cemetery.

Ralph C. Murrin

Ralph C. Murrin was born in Franklin Pennsylvania in 1922, the son of James and Helen Murrin. Ralph graduated from Franklin High School in 1939 and enrolled at Westminster College in New Wilmington Pennsylvania. In 1943 with war declared by Japan, he enlisted in the US Army and was assigned to infantry training at Camp Roberts, California, followed by appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. While at West Point, Ralph served as cadet captain in two honor guards; first at the burial of Franklin D. Roosevelt in Hyde Park, NY (1945), and later to escort Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery, Commander of the British Army (WWII), to Stewart Field, NY (1946). Ralph graduated from West Point in 1947.

Ralph married artist Louise Warner of Pittsburgh in June 1947. He entered the Army Air Corps and completed pilot training at Randolph Field in San Antonio, Texas, and Barksdale AF Base, LA where he piloted AT-6, B-25, C-47 aircraft. In 1950 he transferred to University of Michigan where he received a masters degree in aeronautical engineering. While in Ann Arbor his daughter Jill was born. In 1952 Ralph was assigned to Wright Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB). Then a Captain in the USAF, his family resided in Fairborn, and Ralph was project engineer for the Atlas Intercontinental Missile Program and flight test manager for the Navaho Intercontinental Missile Program (1954-1956). His son Jim was born on Wright-Patterson AFB during that assignment. In 1956 Ralph resigned his Air Force commission in order to become civilian manager of guided missile development at Wright Air Development Center, WPAFB. Ralph supervised development of the GAM-77 Hound Dog missile, and AGM-65A Maverick missile for the USAF. He retired from civil service in 1973. He and Louise subsequently moved to Osprey, Florida, then moved between Florida and Ohio several times, ultimately residing in Dublin Ohio.

Wherever he was, Ralph was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He enjoyed serving his local church, traveling with family and friends, tennis, fishing, building furniture, and remodeling.

Ralph is preceded in death by Louise, his beloved wife of 63 years, and his sister Nita Thurau. He is survived by his daughter Jill Fugaro and husband Dr. Steve Fugaro of Mill Valley, California, his son Dr. Jim Murrin and wife Anne of Dublin, Ohio, and his grandchildren; Kevin Fugaro of New York City, and Alex Murrin of Washington, DC. Gertrude V. Winger

Gertrude V. Winger, 87, of Gerry, New York, formerly of Cranberry, peacefully entered the gates of Heaven at 8:25 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2014. She died at the Heritage Village Skilled Nursing facility in Gerry, New York.

Born February 14, 1926 in Meadville, she was the daughter of Silas and Bertha May Unger Lybarger Young.

She graduated from Meadville High School and then studied to be a registered nurse at the Meadville School of Nursing.

Mrs. Winger had attended services at the Gerry Free Methodist Church in New York; and also at Cranberry United Methodist Church and the Willow Street Free Methodist Church in Oil City.

Gertrude enjoyed reading, flowers and gardening, and knitting and crocheting.

She was employed as a nurse for many years before retiring from the Franklin Hospital.

She was married in Cochranton on December 7, 1951 to William B. Winger, and he preceded her in death on June 29, 2012.

Surviving are five children, Michael Winger and wife Gail of Lakewood, Colorado; Luann Valdesalice of Franklin; Laura Winger of Spring Lake, N. Carolina; Gerald Winger of Gaston, S. Carolina; and Amy Liddle and husband Kevin of Rochester, New York. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Jen Valdesalice, David and Renee Winger, Jerry Lee Winger, and Kyle, Nicole, and Zachary Liddle; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Winger was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by the following siblings: Joseph, Noble, Leah, Austin, Reno, and David Young, Lois Stanley, Paul Young, and Chester, Irvin, and Wilbur Lybarger, and Dortha Free.

There will be no visitation and a memorial service to celebrate Gertrude’s life is being planned. Additional details will be announced at a later date.

Interment will be in Grove Hill Cemetery, Oil City.

Elizabeth I. Bowser, 71, of 28 West Fifth St. Oil City, PA. died at 2:00 A.M. Friday Jan. 17, 2014 at her home following an extended illness.

Born in President, PA. on Jan. 7, 1943, she was the daughter of the late George Russell Fox & Edith R. Mohnkern Fox.

Elizabeth was a graduate of Oil City High School.

She had been employed as a nurse’s aide at the Oil City Presbyterian Home.

She loved to be with her children and grandchildren. Faith and Family were most important to her.

She is survived by three children, David Bowser & his wife Lisa of Titusville and their children, Davey, Megan and Cole, Amy E. Beck of Flat Rock, MI, and her children, Jordan , Makenna and Kayleigh Beck, Jeff Bowser of Blasdell, NY and his two daughters, Victoria Bowser & fiancé Ryan Jablonski and their children Charlotte Bowser and Benjamin Jablonski, Alexandra Bowser.
She is also survived by the following brothers and sisters, George Fox & his wife Carol of Dempseytown, Doug Fox & his wife Vicky of Cranberry, Dee Busch & her husband Dave of Dallas, TX, Clayton Fox & his wife Sue of Oil City, Bill Fox & his wife Vicki of North Carolina, Joyce Gibbs & her husband Darrel of Dempseytown.

Private Funeral Services will take place at the convenience of the family in the Reinsel Funeral Home with Pastor Thomas Lutz, Presiding.

David A. Terwilliger

David A. Terwilliger, 66, of Boyers went to be with his Lord and Saviour Thursday evening (01-16-14) at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

His passing was following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Butler County on March 12, 1947, he was the adopted son of the late Harry H. and Elmira E. Shawl Terwilliger.

It is important to note that David and his brother Larry of Parker, also adopted by the Terwilligers, met and became very close with their eight blood siblings a number of years ago. Including David and Larry, there were five boys and five girls in the original family, many of whom live in various parts of the United States. He was a 1965 graduate of Allegheny-Clarion Valley School Dist. at Foxburg, and during the VietNam Era served with the U.S. Navy, from which he was honorably discharged.

He was employed for a number of years as an electrician for the former Koppers Chemical Co. of Petrolia. David was a member of the New Testament Baptist Church of Butler. An avid hunter and reader, he held a very high passion for old cars, both restoring them and attending as many old car shows as time permitted. But his true passion was loving and caring for his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren, as well as practicing his faith in Jesus Christ.

Surviving are his wife, Karen McGinnis Terwilliger whom he married in Parker on August 27, 1966; three sons and wives: Jason (Becky) Terwilliger of Butler, Adam (Brady) Terwilliger of Parker, and Marcus (Tara) Terwilliger of Slippery Rock; six grandchildren; brother and wife: Larry (Bonnie) Terwilliger of Parker; mother-in-law Veda McGinnis of Eau Claire; number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a special aunt, Annie M. Terwilliger.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Sunday at H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home, 201 So. Washington St., Eau Claire. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday in the funeral home with Rev. Steve Fisher of the New Testament Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Eau Claire Cemetery.

Members of the VFW and American Legion Posts of Parker will conduct services at 10:45 AM Monday in the funeral home.

Mary C. Haniwalt, 84, of Bredinsburg Road, Franklin, Cranberry Township, entered the gates of Heaven on Sunday night, January 19, 2014 at UPMC Hamot in Erie, following a brief illness.

Born November 10, 1929 in Nickleville, she was the daughter of the late John and Amelia Colhepp Bell.

She was a member of Seneca United Methodist Church.

Mary enjoyed playing bingo, crafts and painting, making dolls, and especially the company of her grandchildren.

Mrs. Haniwalt was employed as both a custodian and a cook for the Cranberry Area School District. She retired from there following many years of dedicated service.

She was married on February 17, 1951 to Waldo E. Haniwalt, and he preceded her in death on June 26, 2005.

Surviving are three children, Waldo E. Haniwalt, Jr. of Franklin; Sandra Shaffer of Tionesta; and Bonnie Smith and husband Scott of Seneca; four grandchildren, Christopher and Daniel Shaffer, Jody Lucas and husband Hansel, and Ryan Smith and wife Tabitha; and ten great-grandchildren, Laurianne, Morgan, and Katielynne Shaffer, McKaylah, Bradley, Aiyanna, and Heyden Smith, Jordan and Megan Mealy, and Benjamin Anthony. Mary was anxiously awaiting the upcoming birth of another great-granddaughter, Haley Lynn Lucas.

Also surviving are two sisters, Ella Stone of Oil City and Jessie Stover and husband Don of Titusville; a sister-in-law, Rose Bell of Oil City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Craig Shaffer; a great-grandson, Glenn Shaffer; four sisters, Ima Hackett, Margie Findlay, Ada Wice, and Agnes Rode; and four brothers, James, Robert “Dietz”, George, and John Bell.

Friends will be received Thursday (Jan. 23) from 4-7 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc., 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home Friday (Jan. 24) at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Rob Kifer, pastor of Heckathorn United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will follow in Rockland Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
