Larry Richard Fox

Larry Richard Fox, 56, of Shippenville, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2014, unexpectedly at his home after an extended illness.

Born on March 8, 1957, in Oil City; he was the son of Chester L. and Carolyn R. Cyphert Fox.

Larry was married on September 16, 1977 to the former Anita L. Means, and she survives.

He was previously employed by the Department of Transportation and the Clarion News/Derrick Newspapers for many years.

Larry was of the Protestant faith and had attended the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Shippenville.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing Bingo, dancing, and attending the many annual Clarion County parades.

Larry is survived by his wife of 36 years, Anita; three children, Timothy M. Fox and his wife, Tiffany, of Shippenville; Theresa E. Renninger and her husband, Chad, of Knox; and Bradley J. Fox of Shippenville; four grandchildren, Michael, Tabitha, and Douglas Fox of Clarion, and Jasper Winsor of Strattanville.

Also surviving are two sisters, Darla M. Fox and her significant other, Mark Sunderland, of Shippenville, and Debbie L. Fox and her significant other, Carson Clark, of Clarion; father-in-law, Thomas Means of Clarion; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Means and his wife, Valerie, of Clarion; six nieces and nephews, Carla Fox, Kimberly Garcia, Rebecca Garcia, Brandon Means, Nicholas Means, and Caitlin Means; and a great niece, Truly Ann Long.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2024, at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Gary Hilfiger, pastor of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials contributions to assist with the final expenses.

Homer C. DeWalt

The Reverend Monsignor Homer C. DeWalt, age 94, passed away in Canton, OH on Wednesday, January 15, 2014. He was born on July 2, 1919 in Titusville, Pennsylvania, the son of Walter O. and Mary E. (Hart) DeWalt. He attended the public schools in Titusville, graduating from Colestock High School in 1937.

After graduating from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY in 1941, he was employed in Detroit until his entry in the military service with his brother, Walter O. DeWalt, in 1942, with discharge in 1946.

He entered Saint Mary’s Seminary and University in Baltimore to study Theology and was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Erie by Archbishop John Mark Gannon in 1950. He began his priestly ministry by teaching at Cathedral Preparatory School and then at Gannon College. After earning a Master’s Degree from John Carroll University, he was appointed Superintendent of Schools (1962-1982) and Director of the Diocesan CCD Office (1962-1964). In 1965 he obtained a Doctoral Degree from the University of Minnesota. That same year he was invited to participate in the White House Conference on Education, and he met President Lyndon Johnson at that time. During these years he served as Chaplain to the Sisters of Villa Maria College. In 1982, he became Associate Dean of Education at the Villa Maria College and was shortly thereafter appointed Assistant to the President for Diocesan Affairs of Gannon University (1983-1987). He also served a twenty year term as a member of the Diocesan Finance Committee.

Msgr. DeWalt was a member of the Education Department of the Pennsylvania Catholic Conference, a member of the Status and Functions Committee of the Superintendent’s Department of the National Catholic Education Association, a member of the Erie Rotary Club, and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.

From 1983 to 1990, he served as Administrator of Saint Cyprian Church in Waterford. In 1990, he was assigned as Chaplain at John XXIII Home in Hermitage, PA, a post he held until 1997. In 1993, he participated in an audience with Pope John Paul II in Rome. He was a member of the Sharon Rotary Club. During his last years in Erie, he was a member of the Erie Bridge Center. Msgr. DeWalt retired In September 1997, living in Erie until 2002 when he took permanent residence at the House of Loreto in Canton, OH. He passed away there, leaving a sister, Mrs. F. Rosemary English and a brother-in-law, Robert J. English of Rocky River, OH and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Thursday, January 23, 2014 from 9:00 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Erie, with The Most Reverend Lawrence T. Persico, Bishop of Erie, as the main celebrant. Further visitation will be on Friday, January 24, 2014 from 10:00 am until the time of the Memorial Mass at 11:00 am at Saint Titus Church in Titusville, PA. Burial will follow in Saint Catharine Cemetery, in Titusville.

Loretta J. Mason, 91,of Girard, entered eternal peace on Sunday, January 19, 2014, at 9:15 PM while she was a patient in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Youngstown, following a brief illness.

She was born October 28, 1922, in Rouseville, Pennsylvania, a daughter to Walter and Bertha (Dickinson) Winters.

A 1940 graduate of Oil City H.S., Loretta devoted her life to be a homemaker for her family.

She will be remembered for many, many things, including her naturally caring nature, her beautiful crocheted blankets, her love for playing bingo, and for always being the “peacemaker” with family and friends. She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, Girard; the Seniors Citizens Groups of St. Rose and Girard; and the Jolly Stitchers.

Her survivors include: son, Thomas Mason & his wife Charlotte, Vienna, OH; daughters, Kathy Miskell & her husband Jack, McDonald, OH, Pamela Lesher & her husband Donald, Howland, OH, and Mary Kremser & her husband Daniel, Columbus, OH; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Mason, Geneva, OH; brother, James D. Winters, Nickleville, PA; sisters, Delores J. Whitehill, Nickleville, PA, and Nancy L. McClintock, Cherrytree, PA; sister-in-law, Mary Winters, Franklin, PA; fourteen grandchildren, William Mason, Thomas Mason, Jacquelyn Buongiovanni, Kelly Vickers, Greg Mason, Tricia Turner, Jill Chuita, Melissa Miskell-Tabbara, Joseph Miskell, Jennifer Dargan, Daniel Mills, Justin Haines, Don Lesher, and Brittany Lesher; and nineteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Richard Mason; her brothers, Arden, Jack, & Walter Winters; and by her sisters, Betty Alberg and Doris Beckel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in her honor on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at 11:00 AM in St. Rose Catholic Church where family and friends may call from 9:30 until the time of service.

David L. Thompson

David L. Thompson, 92, resident of Kennerdell, PA for the past 20 years and formerly of Elwood City, PA passed away January 19, 2014 after an short illness.

Mr. Thompson was born April 10, 1921. He was the son of Jacob Gabe Thompson ad Lila Catherine Thompson who proceeded him death.

He was also proceeded by his sister, Marion McGlincy and an brother Robert Thompson. Mr. Thompson married Doris Mawhinney on May 11, 1942.

They were married for 66 years until her death in 2008. Mr. Thompson graduated from Zelienople High School and worked as an operating engineer for Local 66.

He was a member of Camp Run United Presbyterian Church in Harmony Pa, Rockland UMC and also Kennerdell Church of God. Mr. Thompson severed in the US Army during WWII, he was a Master Sergeant serving in the European Theater. Mr. Thompson was active in both church and the community.

He enjoyed hiking with his dog, bicycling, reading and working on projects. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Zelienople. He survived by his son, Sam Thompson and his wife Lea of Madison NC, and two daughters Susan Tyson and her husband Jeremy of Madison, NC and Kelly Thompson of Kennerdell PA. He had one grandson, Michael Thompson and his wife Virginia of Durham, NC.

A memorial service will be Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Kennerdell Church of God ,151 Watson Ave, Kennerdell, PA 16374. The Franklin VETS Memorial Squad will be conducting military honors.

Geraldine M. Hawk

Geraldine M. Hawk, 98 of Butler formerly of East Brady died Saturday January 18, 2014 at Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot.

Born May 19, 1915 in Barger Hollow (Perry Twp. Clarion Co.) she was the daughter of Ledney E. and Mazie F. (Barger) Keefer.

On May 6, 1939 she married John J. Hawk, he preceded her in death in January of 1983.

Geraldine was a member of the North Main Street Church of God in Butler. She was a former Sunday School teacher, a member of the Missionary Group and an assistant librarian at the church.

Geraldine had a special talent for reciting Christian poetry. She enjoyed entertaining her friends with many poems.

She is survived by 1 son Dr. Rodney J. Hawk of Hendersonville, NC., and 2 grandchildren.

Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 1 brother, 1 granddaughter and 2 sisters.

A Memorial Service for Geraldine M. Hawk will be held 11am Monday February 24, 2014 at the North Main Street Church of God with Pastor Brandon Lenhart officiating.

Her burial in Bear Creek Cemetery will be private.

William E. “Bill” Quinn

William E. “Bill” Quinn, 65, of 319 Hone Ave. Oil City, PA. died at 11:00 P.M. Tuesday Jan. 21, 2014 at UPMC-Northwest in Seneca after an extended illness.

Born April 1, 1948 in Oil City, PA., he was the son of the late William L. Quinn & Rita Hynes Quinn.

Bill had worked for the Venango Training Center for Life Skills.

He had a full and complete life, and had touched the hearts of many people.

Most people would use the word “sweet” to describe him.

He could always be found most days reading his horse books, watching westerns on T.V. and showing monsters.

He was a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Church and enjoyed going to Mass.

He started going to church with his late mother, Rita, and there he met Greg & Kathy Gonzales.

Greg and Kathy and their family entered his life and took care of him in their home and provided a home and family for him like no other.

He shared his life with Greg & Kathy and became part of their family and would do everything with them.

Bill loved the Gonzales’ and they loved him.

He shared his life with Greg & Kathy Gonzales of Oil City, Jeff & Kelly Gonzales and their children Andrew, Abigail and Hailey all of New Castle, Jason & Stephanie Gonzales and their children Hunter & Noah of Boardman, OH.

He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn Quinn Curran & her husband James of Oil City and their two sons Craig Curran of Oil City and Colin Curran of Cannonsburg, two brothers, Terry J. Quinn & his wife Kelley of Colleyville, TX, And their daughter Erin Quinn, Robert S. Quinn & his wife Stellie of Portola Valley, CA, and their children Cory, Kevin and Ryan.

He is also survived by a great niece Lindsay Curran.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and from 7-9 P.M. Thursday in the Reinsel Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 P.M. Friday in Our Lady Help of Christians Church with Rev. Shane Mathew, Pastor, Presiding.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Alice Mae Sollinger

Alice Mae Sollinger, 73, of Cranberry passed away Tuesday January 21 at UPMC Hamot Hospital in Erie.

Born January 5, 1941 in Shippenville, she was the daughter of John and Sarah Blair. Alice worked at Friendly Tavern in Knox and was a member of the Clarion Moose and the Berlin Bowser American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

She enjoyed spending time with her close friends Pearl Stover, Maxine Simpson and Richard Golden and especially loved her dog Poo Poo. On September 3, 1960 Alice married Everette Sollinger who
preceded her in death in 2007.

Alice is survived by four children Donna Bechtel and her husband Jim of Cranberry, John Sollinger and his wife Julie of Cranberry, E. Merle Sollinger of Cranberry, Robert Sollinger and his wife Elly of Oil City, six grand children David, Wendy, Joseph, Daniel, Randy, Heather, a sister in law Doris Blair of Clarion, and several aunts and uncles.

Along with her husband and parents Alice was preceded in death by two brothers David Blair and Carl Blair and a nephew Gerald Blair.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Friday and from 10 to 11 am Saturday at the McEntire-Weaver Funeral Home Inc, 504 East Penn Ave, Knox.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Emlenton Cemetery.

Virginia S. McCormick

Virginia S. McCormick, 88, of the Rockland-Nickleville Road, Emlenton, in Richland Township, Venango County, went to be with the Lord Wednesday morning, January 22, 2014 at Oakwood Heights, a Presbyterian Homes Community in Oil City.

Virginia was born September 19, 1925 on a farm in Pittsville, near Rockland, she was the daughter of the late Joseph T. and Sophia Bruntz Stellman. She graduated from Rockland High School in 1943. On May 18, 1943 in Nickleville, she married Raymond McCormick, and he preceded her in death on September 10, 1995, following fifty-two years of marriage.

She was a member of the Nickleville Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon and an auditor. Virginia served on the election board . Throughout the years she enjoyed baking and crocheting, and especially enjoyed crocheting for the church’s blanket ministry. She and her late husband loved fishing and looked forward to annual fishing trips to Canada. Following her husband’s passing, she enjoyed traveling with her good friend, Jean Ralph of Cranberry.

Mrs. McCormick was a well-known Richland Township resident and served as the secretary for Richland Township, Venango County for more than thirty years. In her earlier years, she was employed by Stanford Dry Cleaners and worked in the cafeteria at the Rockland Elementary School .

She is survived by a son, James McCormick and his wife Linda of West Salem, Ohio; a daughter, Kathleen Chadman and her husband Don of Emlenton; three granddaughters, Jennifer Powers and her husband Keith of New London, Ohio; Julie Scheub and her husband David of Ashland, Ohio; Terra Chadman and her boyfriend Rich Gertz of Mantua, Ohio; two-great-granddaughters, Ashley Powers Smitko and her husband Jared of Wellington, Ohio and Emily Powers of New London, Ohio; a step-grandson, Steven James of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Also surviving is her brother, Bob Stellman and his wife Anna Marie of Rochester, New York; two sisters-in-law, Barbara McCormick of Cherrytree and Mary Lou McCormick of Lynchburg, Virginia.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Josephine Nuhfer and Rose Warner; and three brothers, Frank, Ted, and Felix Stellman.

Friends will be received from 2-7 p.m. Friday (Jan. 24th) in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc., 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township and from 10-11 a.m. Saturday in the Nickleville Presbyterian Church, 169 Valley Church Road, Emlenton , where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Sue Sterling Montgomery, church pastor, and the Rev. Dr. Darrell Knopp, former pastor, co-officiating.

Interment will be in Rockland Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Nickleville Presbyterian Church, 169 Valley Church Rd., Emlenton PA 16373; or to Rockland Volunteer Fire Department, 995 Pittsville Rd., Kennerdell, PA 16374.

Richard C.( Dick ) Capp Sr.

Richard C.( Dick ) Capp Sr. 74 of 120 Spring Rd. Oil City, PA. and formerly of Munhall passed away unexpectedly Tuesday January 21, 2014 at UPMC Hamot in Erie ,PA.

He was born in Pgh., PA on Dec. 6, 1939 son of the late Charles and Ida Cush Capp.

He was a 1958 graduate of Munhall High School.

Dick was a veteran of the USMC serving from 10-19-1961 thru 10-19-1964. Returning from the service He started a forty year career with Bev-O-Matic, which had a long term contract with Electralloy bringing him to this area. He retired in 2001 .

Mr. Capp appreciated Holiday Services at the Wilson Ave. Free Methodist Church with Pastor Chris Hill who married Mr. Capp and his wife the former Barbara L. Gatesman- Thomas on May 5, 2001, and she survives.

He is also survived by his children Lois (Joe) Kobrys, Marie ( J.J. ) Zekeny, Dan ( Darlene ) Capp ,Rick ( Annette ) Capp , and was a proud grandfather and greatgrandfather to Donnie,Bradley, Abbey, Joey,, Kimberly, Cassie, Brock, Mallory, Bill and Colton, Bradley Jr. Chase and Jessina , and a step-mother Dorothy Capp, and two brothers Dan ( Karen ) Capp and Michael Capp and a nephew Dan.

He was preceded in death by his sister Deloris Capp .

Dick no longer lived in the Steel City, but still carried a patch of black & gold where he introduced Oil City to Iron City. He always said, “ The Dr. told him he needs his “iron “. Guess that is what made him a whiz at scrabble. He enjoyed playing penny slots, the lotto, and bets with the guys. You could always see Dick riding his John Deere or by accepting his open invitation to join him on the back porch. He looked forward to spending time with family and friends , and enjoyed listening to oldies and watching westerns.

Dick was loved and enjoyed by his extended family. Barb’s girls often joked about his youthful appearance. Lori always cooked the best bacon for him, and Lesa will be waiting at the gates. And He will always be watching Julian swim in the pool.

The family will receive friends from 12 Noon till 3:00 P.M. Friday in the Reinsel Funeral Home & Crematory 116 Bissell Ave. Oil City, PA 16301. A Service will be then be held at 3:00 –P.M. in the Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Hill , presiding.

A Second visitation will be held from 12 Noon till 3:00 P.M. Saturday followed by a service at 3:00 P.M. at the R.V. Anderson Funeral Home, INC. 315 East Tenth Ave. Homestead, PA 15120. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Pgh.

Elaine C. Stewart, 74 of 50 Lobaugh Hill Rd. Rimersburg went home to be with the Lord at 3:30 AM Thursday January 23, 2014 at St.Vincent Medical Center in Erie.

Born July 18, 2014 in Distant, she the daughter of Joseph and Dorothy Lucas Greenawalt. Elaine was a graduate of Redbank High School and worked 35 years at the former Owens-Brockway glass plant in Clarion, retiring in 1996.

She was married June 19, 1972 to Richard M. Stewart and he survives. Elaine was a member of the Grace Community Church in Curllsville and she enjoyed artwork and crafts.

In addition to her husband she is survived by her 2 children and their spouses; Susan and Daniel Rummell of Rimersburg and Thomas “Smiley” and Mary Ann Stewart of Clarion, her grandchildren; Matthew and Rebecca Stewart of Clarion. Also surviving are her sisters; Donna Jean Williams and husband Ron of Summerville, Nancy Bimber and husband Denny of Russell, and Marilyn Boyles of Hueber Height, OH and brothers and their wives; Arnold and Carolyn Greenawalt of New Bethlehem and Dewayne and Gerry Greenawalt of New Bethlehem and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by 3 brothers; Kenny, Allen, and Myron Greenawalt.

Elaine’s family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Saturday Jan. 25, at the Varner Funeral Home of Rimersburg.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Sunday from the funeral home with Pastor Daniel George of the Grace Community Church, officiating.

Interment will follow in the Rimersburg Cemetery.

Norma F. Double

Norma F. Double, 66 of East Brady died Wednesday January 22, 2014 at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

Born in Barger Hollow (Perry Twp. Clarion Co.) on April 23, 1947, she was the daughter of Clayton A. and Lois R. (Fair) Barger.

Norma was a Nurse’s Aide first at the Anderson House in New Bethlehem, then Golden Living in Clarion, lastly for 12 years she worked at Sugarcreek Rest Home.

She was a member of the Petrolia Lion’s Club, was a fan of country music and an avid bingo player. She was known by her family for making the best moon pie’s and no-bake cookies.
Norma was fond of pets especially her late dog Missy, but most of all enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Edward P. Double of East Brady whom she married July 28, 1991. 4 sons Donald “Bud” Adams Jr. of Widnoon. Bill( wife Robin) Adams of New Bethlehem, Ken (girlfriend Heather) Adams of Widnoon, Tim (wife Tatum) Adams of Freeport. 1 Granddaughter Bailey Adams and 3 grandsons Tyson, Joshua and Zyan Adams.

Norma is also survived by 3 sisters Nancy Barger, Judy Erb, Charlotte Rossman and 1 Brother Edward Barger. And numerous nieces and nephews.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Donald Adams Sr., Infant twin daughters, 1 grandson Craig, 1 sister Debra Gillespie and 1 brother Dean Barger.

A Memorial Service for Norma F. Double will be held at 11am Saturday February 1, 2014 at Buechele Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc. 707 Kellys Way East Brady, PA 16028

Private burial in Widnoon Cemetery will occur in the spring.

Mary Matilda Elliott, of Chestnut Street in Clarion, passed away on January 24, 2014 at the Clarion Hospital. She was 86 years old. Born on June 19, 1927 in Columbiana County, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Frederick N. and Mary Myers Smith who have preceded her in death. Mary worked at the G.C. Murphy Company Five and Dime store in Clarion before she met and married Robert Raymond Elliott on September 30, 1949. They were married for almost sixty years before he preceded her in death in December, 2007. A devoted mother and homemaker, Mary enjoyed gardening, flowers and reading. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Clarion. Mary will be greatly missed by her two sons, Robert Elliott of Clarion, and Richard Elliott and his wife Cindy of Venus; and her two grandchildren, Amy Lynn Whitney and her husband Richard of Corsica, and Robert James Elliott of Cleveland OH. Mary is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Lillian Smith of Martinez GA, and Lida Schwabenbauer of Venus; and a brother-in-law, Edward Elliott and his wife Dorothy of Shippenville; and a nephew, Frederick I. Smith and his wife Deborah of Martinez GA. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her three brothers, Frederick, Arthur, and Harry Smith. Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street, Clarion. At Mary’s request, there will be no public visitation. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. William A. Krupitzer, Jr., 54, of Oil City, died at 7:41 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 2014 at UPMC Northwest in Seneca.

He was born August 30, 1959 in Pittsburgh to William A. and Regina A. Slattery Krupitzer.

Bill graduated from Cranberry High School in 1977 and while there attended vocational classes concentrating in warehouse management.

He enjoyed watching the Steelers, attending a variety of family get-togethers, and the companionship of his dog, Junior. Bill will be remembered as always wearing a smile and having a good attitude towards life.

For the past thirty-five years, he was employed locally in the auto parts sales and service industry, working for Baker’s Auto Parts, Klapec Trucking, and Northpointe Automotive.

He is survived by his parents, William A. Krupitzer, Sr. and Regina A. Krupitzer of Oil City; he was a loving and proud father to his two sons, Kyle E. Krupitzer and his fiancé Tiffani Clark of Oil City and Jacob A. Krupitzer and his partner Victor Aponte of Pittsburgh; a friend whom Bill treated like a son, Joshua Pleger of Oil City; his significant other, Elsie M. Hale of Oil City; and his former spouse, Juanita Mahood of Dempseytown.

Bill is also survived by two sisters, Judy L. Ehrhart of Oil City and Jane L. Hutchinson and her husband Gene of Oil City; a brother, Daniel B. Krupitzer and his wife Staci of Cochranton; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday (Jan. 27th) in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc., 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 28th) in the funeral home.

Interment will follow in Rynd Farm Cemetery near Rouseville in Cornplanter Township.

Vernon J. Shaffer, 91, of New Bethlehem, died Friday morning January 24, 2014, at the Clarion Hospital.

He was born August 21, 1922, in Beautiful Lookout, Armstrong County, and son of Wallace and Mary C. (Procious) Shaffer.

He was first married on June 10, 1948, to D. Carolyn (Smith) and she preceded him in death on December 11, 1986. He then married on May 17, 1989, to Fannie Jane (Henry) McDonald; she preceded him in death on November 9, 2013.

He worked as a coal truck driver, and at Crawford Furniture, Keystone Salt Service, and McCauley Trucking.

He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, where he served at treasurer for over 20 years. He also enjoyed gardening, and had restored numerous John Deere tractors.

He is survived by a son, Vernon E. Shaffer and his wife Judy, of Mayport; 2 daughters, Greta Schneider and her husband Mark, of Stanford, CT, and Gayle Reddinger and her husband Tim, of Summerville; 3 step-daughters, Carol Wahl and her husband Robert, of Fairmount City, Linda Moore and her husband Terry, of New Bethlehem, and Cindy McDonald, of New Bethlehem; 7 grandchildren, Eric Schneider, Cara Schneider, Dustin Shaffer and wife Kate, Craig Shaffer and wife Kaitlin, Brock Shaffer, Lindsay Haber and husband Charles, and Leah Conti and husband Chad; 8 step-grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Emma, and Blake; 14 step-great-grandchildren; and 2 step-great-great-grandchildren; a niece, Cindy (Shaffer) Radaker, of Seneca; and a nephew, Robert “Robbie” Shaffer, of Fairmount City.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He was preceded in death by both parents, 2 spouses, and 1 brother, Robert H. Shaffer.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2014, from 2-6 pm at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn.

The funeral service will be held Monday, January 27, 2014, at 11 am at the Zion Lutheran Church in Shannondale, with Pastor James Steingass officiating.

Interment will be in the Shannondale Union Cemetery, Redbank Township, Clarion County.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Zion Lutheran Church at 2842 Pine Run Road, Mayport, PA 16240.

Alice May Carlile, 68, of O’Donnell Rd. Sigel, Pa., passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2014, at Alle-Kiski Hospital, Natrona Heights, Pa.

Born on March 9, 1945, in Kane, Pa., she was the daughter of Kenneth Troutman and Vivian Thatcher Troutman

On March 1, 1968, she married – Herman Ray Carlile in Las Vegas, Nevada. He survives.

She worked for many years as a waitress at Farmer’s Inn in Sigel, Pa.

She loved being at home and being with her family. She enjoyed gambling, playing Bingo, and especially cooking for her extended family and grandchildren

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a nephew, Travis Troutman of Sigel, Pa., and a cousin, Matt Thatcher of Marienville, Pa.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Nile, Larry, and Tony Troutman.

Visitation hours are on Sunday, January 26, 2014, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at McKinney Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Brookville, PA

Funeral services will be on Monday, January 27, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at McKinney Funeral Home, with Pastor Randy Hall officiating.

Interment will be at Donahey Hill Cemetery in Millstone Twp., Elk Co., Pa.

Myrna J. Phillips, 97, of Neilltown Road, Pleasantville, peacefully passed away at her home on Friday, January 24, 2014.

Myrna was born on July 5, 1916 to the late Lon B. and Sadie B. Phipps Surrena, in Harrisville, PA.

She worked for GTE Sylvania, retiring after twenty-nine years of employment.

Myrna was a member of the Hydetown Baptist Church and was a very special grandma to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by a son, Nolan Scott Phillips and wife Jean of Hydetown; a daughter, Sue Brown of Pleasantville, a daughter –in-law, Norma Jean Phillips of Akron, OH; a sister, Ruth Coast of Barkeyville; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

There will be no service observed per Myrna’s wishes.

Anna Mae Hayes, age 89, of New Bethlehem, passed away Thursday afternoon, January 23, 2014 at her home following an illness.

Born April 15, 1924 in Madison Township, Armstrong County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Wesley Bish and Mary Ecelia Hetrick Bish.

She attended the Ridgeview School in Kellersburg as a youth.

Anna Mae married Lloyd Donald Hopper and he preceded her in death. She later married Williard De Merle “Bucky” Hayes, in Georgia, on January 22, 1968 and he survives.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family. In her earlier years she enjoyed golfing, bowling and gardening.

She also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States with “Bucky” and playing cards.

Anna Mae was of the Methodist faith, was a member of the New Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary and gave her time doing volunteer work in the local area.

Survivors include her husband, “Bucky”, a son: Donald O. Hopper and his wife, Jan R., of Templeton; three step-children: Dr. Bob Hayes and his wife, Mary, of Virginia; Donna White of Florida and Karen Emings and her husband, Darl, of New Bethlehem; Three grandchildren: Larry Wagner and his wife, Cherie, of Arkansas; Teresa “Jeanie” Nelson and her husband, Eric, from the village of Redbank and Lloyd L. Hopper and his wife, Brenda, of Beautiful Lookout; Step grandchildren: Kim Pierce, Chris Hayes and friend, Elizabeth, Jennifer Avram, January and Nick Coventry, all of Arizona and Chad White of Florida, Shane and Hiromi White of Hawaii, Tammy and Mike Catlos of Leechburg and Scott and Mikie Emings of Hawthorn.

She is also survived by her great grandchildren: Jennifer Kaza and husband, Jeremy of Timblin; Doug Hopper of Beautiful Lookout and Torilynne Nelson from the village of Redbank; Step great grandchildren: Nicholas and Stephanie Avery of Arizona; Zin and Mary Jane White of Hawaii; Lauren and Dave Leskowak of Brookville and Brooke and Mikaela Emings of Hawthorn; Great Great Grandchildren: Brylie and Wyatt Kaza of Timblin; two brothers: Mason Bish of New York and John Bish of New Bethlehem and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

In addition to her parents and first husband, Anna Mae was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Mae Wagner, two brothers: Amos and George Bish; one sister, Viola Cendrowski and a niece and nephew.

A private visitation will be held.

Family and Friends are invited to attended funeral services for Anna Mae at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 2014 at the Rupert Funeral Home and Cremation Service Chapel, 233 Penn Street, New Bethlehem. Reverend Ben Shindledecker will officiate over the service.

Interment will follow in the Kellersburg Methodist Cemetery, Madison Township, Armstrong County.

Richard Allen Eddinger

Richard Allen Eddinger, age 77, of Knox, passed away early Friday morning, January 24, 2014 at the Clarion Hospital, following an illness.

Born June 13, 1936 in Emlenton, he was a son of the late Charles A. and Ruth Ferguson Eddinger.

He was a clergyman, serving in churches for 36 years.

He married the former Margaret A. Beisel and she survives.

Dick was a member of the Western PA Conference of the United Methodist Church and preached at the Rustic Acres Campground up until last year.

He and Margaret started the Sunday School program at the Mount Joy United Methodist Church and for many years he served as a counselor and board member at the Cherry Run Camp in Rimersburg.

For one week a year, for 17 years, Dick went to Jamaica on a missions trip. He also did a missions trip to Kentucky Bible College.

He treasured the time he spent with his family and also enjoyed woodworking, camping, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret and their children; one son, David A. Eddinger and his wife, Chris, of Erie; three daughters: Cynthia L. Hoover and her husband, Ron, of Indiana; Brenda E. Means and her husband, Bill, of Punxsutawney and Dena M. Johnston and her husband, Kevin, of Sligo.

Dick is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 1 step grandchild and 4 great grandchildren and a brother, C. Robert Eddinger of Honolulu, Hawaii.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Hess.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 2014 at the William N. Rupert Mortuary, Inc., 430 Mendenhall Avenue, Knox and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, January 27, 2014 at the Mt. Joy United Methodist Church, 159 Mt. Joy Road, Knox.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the church with the Reverend Dan Myers, pastor at Mt. Joy, and Reverend George Porter, District Superintendent of the Franklin District of the United Methodist Church, officiating over the service.

Interment will following in the Mt. Joy Cemetery.
