Lauritz E. “Lefty” Nelson

2014_122_180Lauritz E. “Lefty” Nelson, 85, of Emeritus, 220 Southwestern Drive, formerly of Port St. Lucie, FL. and Jamestown died at 11:44 p.m. Monday (April 7, 2014) in WCA Hospital.

A Jamestown native, he was born November 29th 1928, a son of late Ernest and Emma Petersen Nelson, and a graduate of the Lakewood Branch of the Southwestern Central School.

Lefty proudly served his country and is a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal October 23, 1952 from the 76th Engineer Construction Brigade.

He was a retired detective of the Jamestown Police Department who in his retirement enjoyed reading true crime and detective books. He was also employed as an investigator for the public defender’s office, and later employed by The Resource Center, as well as The Harbour Ridge Yacht & Country Club in Palm City, FL. Lefty was a member of the Lakewood American Legion Post #1286, as well as a life member of the Jamestown Elk’s Lodge #263, where he served as Exalted Ruler and was a past District Deputy and State Major Project Chairman; a life member of the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club serving on their board Board of Directors for 9 years as President , Vice President and Secretary; and a life member of the Korean Veterans Association.

Throughout his life, Lefty was an avid golfer enjoying courses throughout Western New York and Florida. He loved to socialize, could light up the room, and bring life to any gathering. He made distinct efforts to get to know a person’s individual ‘story’ and had an uncanny ability to remember them.

Surviving are three daughters: Karie (John) Carlson of Jamestown, Kathy (Richard) Crawford of Cooperstown, PA and Kelly (Timothy) Seymour of Port St. Lucie, FL; eight grandchildren: Rhonda (Matthew) Prusak of Avon, OH, Kendra Carlson of Pittsburgh, PA, Olivia Carlson of Jamestown, Tim (Tiffany Copley) Lee of Oil City, PA, Kelsey (Jason) Newton of Richmond, VA, Nathaniel Lee of Oil City, PA Heidi Seymour of Port St. Lucie, FL and Corey (Jena) Seymour of Pittsburgh PA; eight great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Nelson, Nellie Nelson, and Patricia Rugg; and three special nephews: Jim, Jeff, and Kevin Nelson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Rugg Nelson, whom he married March 15, 1952 and who died April 27, 2010; and three brothers, A. Edward, Rodney E. and Sydney W. Nelson.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. Pastor Kevin Costner will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Bentley Cemetery, Lakewood.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home, and for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home Saturday. An Elks Lodge Memorial Service will also be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday.

Barbara L. Sadler

Barbara L. Sadler, 85, of 681 High St., Victor, NY, formerly of 1653 Southwestern Drive, Lakewood, NY, passed away Wednesday (April 9, 2014) peacefully in her sleep to arrive in heaven in time for her 59th wedding anniversary.

She was born July 3, 1928, in Tulsa, OK, the daughter of the late Oran G. and L. Loraine Stadtler Krug.

Barbara was a 1946 graduate of Oil City High School and was a former Seneca, Pa resident.

She was employed by the Oil City National Bank from 1946-1957. She was a member of the Zion Covenant Church. She belonged to the Lakewood Golden Agers, and the Thursday A.M. Bowlers at the Lakewood Bowling Alley. She also enjoyed golfing and photography.

Surviving are her daughters, Leslie S. Snyder of Endicott, NY, and Polly L. Sadler of Macedon, NY, two grandchildren, Lindsey Snyder of Cortland, NY and Stacey Snyder of Rochester, NY, two sisters, Esther K. Smith of Southington, Conn., and Marcia K. Maul of Oil City, Pa., a niece, Kristi O’Rourake of North Carolina, three nephews, Gary L. Smith of Southington, Conn., and Larry and Lance Maul of Oil City, Pa.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William P. Sadler who died March 28, 2012, and a brother Oran G. Krug, Jr.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Rick Miller will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m. Friday and for one hour prior to the service Saturday in the funeral home.

Jean McGeoch Cutler

Jean McGeoch Cutler, 81, died peacefully Monday, April 8th at the St. Andrews Presbyterian Home in Indiana PA after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

The daughter of Wallace and Mary McGeoch, she was born on February 24th 1933 in Pontiac, Michigan.

Jean graduated from Westminster College in 1955, with a BA, majoring in mathematics and minoring in Sociology.

Jean lived with a courageous spirit and a caring soul. She had three distinct seasons in her adult life. She began as a junior high math teacher in Kittanning, PA. Then, in 1960, she began raising her family of 3 children, substitute teaching, and serving in various leadership roles in the Presbyterian Church. In 1988 she boldly relocated to Louisville, KY to work at the merged Presbyterian church (PC-USA) as associate for Presbyterian Women (UPW) and their global Women’s Offering program.

During her years in Louisville, she fulfilled her passion for mission work by reviewing grants and implementing mission projects around the world. She visited hospitals in Malawi and Kenya, attended international meetings in Japan and North America, and travelled to Mexico where she drank one of the two first cups of clean water drawn through the purifying device funded by the UPW.

Jean could spot beauty in the every day. She captured joy in her painting, her gardening, and through her domestic and international travels. She loved being with her children and grandchildren and looked for any occasion to help other people.

Jean is survived by her three children; Andy Cutler (wife Tracy, Son Ben, daughter Anna) who live in Lancaster, PA, Lynne Inness (husband George, son John, daughter Lauren ) who live in Cary NC, Valerie Wilson (husband Bob, daughter Becky, Sons Sam and Joe) who live in Indiana, PA. She is also survived by sister, Esther Shane, who lives in Indiana, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents Wallace and Mary McGeoch. The family is grateful to the team at St. Andrews for their gentle and respectful care.

Friends and family will be received Saturday April 12, 2014 from 2pm to 3pm at Calvary Presbyterian Church, Indiana, PA. The memorial service will be held at 3pm with The Reverend Richard Cassel officiating. Interment will be in Fair Oaks cemetary in Lawerence County.

Rodney Brian Saylor, 49, of Fluvanna County, died on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at his home.

He was born on January 19,1965 in Brookville, PA a son of Patricia Ann (Smith) of Sligo, PA and the late Frank Edward Saylor, Sr.

Mr. Saylor was a graduate of Union High School in Sligo, PA and the Ohio Diesel School.

He had a successful career as a diesel mechanic, having worked at Carl Johnson’s Shop in Troy and Jim Price Automotive in Charlottesville. He loved helping other people and enjoyed riding dirt bikes and three wheelers.

In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Tina Saylor; two sons, Dylan Shane Saylor and Austin Brian Saylor; a brother, Frank Edward Saylor, Jr. of Sligo, PA; and a special friend Mike Shifflett of Palmyra.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Thacker Brothers Lake Monticello Funeral Home.

Elizabeth A. “Betty” Peebles

Elizabeth A. “Betty” Peebles, 68, of 13020 State Highway 8 Titusville, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, April 10, 2014.

Betty was born on November 1, 1945 at Ligonier, PA, a daughter of the late John B. and Lillian C. Rankin Harmon.  She was married to Richard G. Peebles on November 28, 1964 in Titusville.

Betty was a graduate of the Titusville High School, class of 1964.  She had been employed for 25 years at the Titusville Post Office from where she had retired.

Betty was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was very active having served as deacon and elder.  She was a member of the ushering team and currently serving on session.

She was a former member of the Funsters Bowling League and of the Titusville Service League.  She enjoyed traveling with her husband, going on cruises, and snowmobiling.  She was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed tending to her gardens.

Betty is survived by her husband of Titusville; three sons, Roger Peebles and wife Colleen of Mukwonago, WI, Thomas Peebles of Enumclaw, WA, and Richard James “Jamie” Peebles of Titusville; two grandchildren, Lynsey and Leigha Peebles; the following brothers and sisters, Lois Smith and husband John of Titusville, Nettie Anders and husband Buzzy of Prineville, OR, Roxie “Butch” Ray of Chickamauga, GA, Kay Kellogg of Elko, NV, James B. Harmon of Dunlap, TN, Patricia Kellogg of Titusville, Teresa Whitman of Monte Vista, CO, Mildred “Midge” Pentland and husband David of Longview, WA, Russell Harmon and wife Aree of Rock Spring, GA, Nancy Queen and husband Verlin of Prineville, OR, and Donald C. Harmon and wife Nancy of Ringgold, GA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and attend the funeral service on Monday at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Barry E. Cressman, pastor, officiating.

Lorraine E. Couts

Lorraine E. Couts, 85, of Venus, Pinegrove Township, died at 9:25 a.m. on Friday, April 11, 2014 at her residence following an extended illness.

She was born on September 1, 1928 in Allegheny County to Florence (Hester) Carlson Novak.

Mrs. Couts was of the Lutheran faith.

In the Troy Hill area of Pittsburgh, she and her husband owned and operated Harry & Lorraine’s Market for many years. After moving to the Oil City area, they operated the West First Street Market in Oil City. She then became a dedicated homemaker and a very proud and loving grandmother.

Lorraine enjoyed cooking and the company of her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was married in Virginia on November 17, 1947 to Harry J. Couts, Sr., and he survives.

Also surviving is a son, Harry J. Couts, Jr. and his wife Patti of Venus; a son-in-law, Mick Miller of Oil City; four grandsons, Michael Couts and wife Andrea of High Point, North Carolina, Bryan Couts and wife Jamie of Wattsburg, Steven Miller and wife Brittany of Oil City, and Jeremy Miller and wife Jennifer of Dover, Delaware; and six great-grandchildren: Claire, Benjamin, Kaiden, Blake, Beau, and Bella; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Florence Ann Miller; a brother, Louis Carlson; and a sister, Betty Carlson.

Friends will be received Sunday (April 13th) from 1-4 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc., 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township, where a funeral service will be held following the visitation Sunday at 4 p.m., with the Rev. Randy Evans, hospice chaplain of the Clarion/Forest V.N.A., officiating.

Interment will follow in Venus Cemetery.

Raymond A. Ganoe

Raymond A. Ganoe, 72, of Cape Canaveral, Florida, formerly of Clarion, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2014, in Fleming Island, Florida.

Born on May 3, 1941 in Clarion, he was the son of William E. and Cecilia Aaron Ganoe.

Ray was a 1960 graduate of Clarion-Limestone High School.  He then graduated from Clarion State Collage with a degree in Secondary Science Education.  He taught science at Clarion High School and coached basketball and track.

Ray was a member of Our Savior Catholic Church in Cocoa Beach, Florida.

He was also a charter member and former president of the Merritt Island Breakfast Rotary Club.

Raymond owned and operated Ray’s Tire Center from 1971 to 2012.

He is survived by a son, Steven Ganoe and his wife, Deborah, of Jacksonville, Florida; two daughters, Cheri Ganoe Villa and her husband, Tony, of Manassas, Virginia, and Marcia Ganoe and her partner, Jenni Moehringer, of Seattle, Washington; and seven grandchildren, Mac Ganoe, Jack Ganoe, and Steven Ganoe Jr. of Fleming Island, Florida, Brittney Zeman of Silver Springs, Maryland, Ben Zeman of Virginia Beach, and Aaron and Alese Zeman of Manassas, Virginia.

Also surviving are five siblings, Mary Louise Beichner of Oil City, Dorothy Beichner and her husband, Eugene, of New Castle, Robert Ganoe of Clarion, Kathleen Thompson and her husband, Dick, of Clarion, and Bernard “Bun” Ganoe and his wife, Linda, of Clarion; four sisters-in-law, Nancy Ganoe of Clarion, Gayle Ganoe of Clarion, Donna Ganoe of Fisher, and Nancy Ganoe of Shippenville; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, David Ganoe, William Ganoe, Richard Ganoe, Leo Ganoe, and Edgar Ganoe; and a sister, Claire Marie Leitch.

Family will receive friends from 8 to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 14, 2014, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, 638 Wood Street, Clarion.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 14, 2014, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion with Rev. Monty Sayers, pastor of the Immaculate Conception Church, presiding.

Interment will be held at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery Mausoleum.

Thomas Eugene Ruditis

Thomas Eugene Ruditis, 56, of 2001 W First St, Oil City, died Thursday, April 10, 2014, at UPMC Shadyside in Pittsburgh.

Born December 31, 1957 in Franklin, he was a son of the late John and Dorothy Jane Beightol Ruditis.

Tom was a truck driver, most recently working for FedEx.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Tom enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and hunting.

On January 10, 2003 he married the former Jan Turnbull Kurschinske, who survives.

In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by two sons, Cory Ruditis and wife Allison of Oil City, and Zachery Ruditis of Rouseville; one daughter, Jamie Gordon and husband Matt of Franklin; five grandchildren, Jocelyn Gordon, Reiley Gordon, Braden Gordon, Carter Ruditis and Owen Ruditis; and a step son, Scott Kurschinske of Oil City.

Also surviving is a sister, Karen Ruditis of Jackson Center.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm Sunday at the Morrison Funeral Home.

A Memorial Service will be held in the funeral home at 4 pm with the Rev. Sharon Hilfiger, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, officiating.

Virginia E. Buzard Myers, 88, of 307 Oak Rd. Oil City, PA. died at 4:30 P.M. Thursday April 10, 2014 at Oakwood Heights in Oil City.

Born January 21, 1925 in Oil City, PA., she was the daughter of the late Silas A. Buzard & Lena Lasira Swartz Buzard

Virginia had worked as a controller for Quaker State .

She was involved with and sold Avon for many years and had won numerous cruises for her sales achievement.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the apple of her eye.

She traveled extensively to the Bahamas, the Caribbean and to Canada.

Virginia enjoyed meeting up with other Quaker State retirees when they would have their outings.

She was a member of the Belle Lettres Club and a member of the Willow St. Free Methodist Church.

She is survived by one son, Richard Buzard & his wife Roberta Davis of Oil City; Three grandchildren, Todd Yashinski of NH and his children Bella & Charlie, Jaime Jo Yashinski of Oil City and her children Nolan Wile, Chanel Wile and Alexis Yashinski, Daniel Buzard & his wife Shannon of Oil City and their daughter Jasmyn and son Brayden.

She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including Tina & Keith Lalley.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert H. Buzard; a sister, Lena Buzard Lewis Dilley; and two infants George Lloyd Buzard and Silas Buzard Jr.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday April 19, 2014 at the Willow St. Free Methodist Church with Rev. T. Christopher Hill Presiding.

Ruthanne M. Wotring

Ruthanne M. Wotring, 71 of Fairmount City, died Saturday afternoon, April 12, at the Clarion Hospital.

She was born on July 3, 1942 in Hawthorn and daughter of Frank and Stella (Troup) Yount. She was married on June 15, 1962 to Ronald L. Wotring and he preceded her in death on July 20, 1999.

Ruthanne was a teacher for Head Start. She attended the Christian Fellowship Church in Fairmount City.

She is survived by two daughters, Cindy J. Wotring and her companion Oscar Brooks of Fairmount City and Chariety A. Kriebel and her husband Michael of Bradenton, Florida, six grandchildren, Charles Brooks, Jr., Julianne Brooks, Amanda Kriebel, Kameron Kriebel, Logan Kriebel, and Landan Kriebel, four brothers, William and Vernetta Yount of Oil City, Jack and Edna Yount of Hawthorn, Ernie and Nancy Yount of Seminole and Don and Doris Yount of Franklin, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Ron, she was also preceded in death by both parents, five sisters and one brother.

Visitation will be on Monday, April 14, from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 15, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor James Thomas officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Mahoning Township, Armstrong County.

Marcia June Slaughenhoupt

Marcia June Slaughenhoupt, 80, of 549 Penn St. Sligo died at 8 AM Saturday April 12, 2014 at Clarview Nursing & Rehab. Center near Sligo.

Marcia was born at home under an oil lamp in Robinson Twp.,Allegheny Co. on June 1, 1933, to Boyd A. and Marian Petrie Gore.

She graduated with the the last class of the Bruin High School in 1953.

Marcia worked at her parent’s Gore’s Grocery Store in Bruin while in school and until she married Harold Slaughenhoupt in Harrisville on October 22, 1955 and he died May 2, 2003. She was a member of the Sligo Presbyterian Church, was active as a Deacon and baking pies for church dinners. Marcia enjoyed reading and watching Gunsmoke. She was kind and thoughtful, always trying to help others and will be greatly missed by her family.

She is survived by a daughter Marcy Lynn Mason and her husband James of Sligo,a grandaughter Jamie Mason Lomax and her husband Wes of Melbourne,FL, a sister Jeanne Kepple and her husband Robert of Hilliards.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a brother Allen Boyd Gore.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Tuesday April 15, at the Varner Funeral Home, 1632 Bald Eagle St. Sligo. Funeral sevices will be at 11 AM Wednesday April 16 from the Sligo Presbyterian Church with the Rev.Stephanie Weaver, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the Sligo Cemetery.

Patricia M. (Paup) Rupert

Patricia M. (Paup) Rupert, age 80, of Horsecreek Road in Seneca died at 10:58 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2014 at UPMC Hamot in Erie following a brief illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Rupert, who died February 8, 2014.

A memorial service to celebrate John and Patricia’s lives will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 26th, 2014 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Venus. Interment will follow in Venus Cemetery.

Charles W. Baughman Jr.

Charles W. Baughman Jr., 75 of Millerstown passed away April 11, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Clarion after an extended illness.

Born on August 18, 1938 in Oil City, PA he was the son of Charles H. and Margaret Swisher Baughman who preceded him in death.

On August 3, 1963 he was married to the former Barbara Beichner Baughman who survives.

Charles was a member of St. Michael Church in Fryburg.

He served 3 years in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. He was a truck driver during his time of service and traveled all over Europe. After the Army he drove truck for several companies in the area hauling mostly coal. In his later years he delivered the Derrick in the Knox area.

Charles enjoyed hunting, gardening, fishing, and spending time in the outdoors. He also enjoyed spending time with his faithful dog Hunter.

He is survived by his wife Barbara and their children: Jeanette Lannigan and husband Mark of Shippenville, Bob Baughman and wife Patty of Knox, Paul Baughman and wife Mickey of Strattenville. Grandchildren surviving are Jennifer Shropshire and husband Chris of Savannah, GA; Regina Port and husband John Scott of Clarion; Mary Lannigan and companion Travis of Tionesta; Shana Baughman and companion William of Kennerdale; Robert Baughman of Knox; Brooke and Seth Baughman both of Strattanville. Great-grandchildren Brayden Lannigan, Paisley Jo Barton and arriving in June, Charlotte Memphis “Charlie” Shropshire. A brother Francis Baughman and wife Mary of Millerstown and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Faller Funeral Home, Inc. in Fryburg. A parish vigil service will be held at 3:45pm on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at the funeral home.

Mass of a Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at St. Michael Church in Fryburg with Rev. D.G. Davis II, Pastor as celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Michael Cemetery following the Mass.

Military honors will be accorded at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at the cemetery by the Berlin-Bowser American Legion Post #720 of Knox

Born August 9, 1947, she was a daughter of Lester Starling Neal, Sr. and Dorothea Elizabeth Heckathorn Neal.

Mrs. Wilson was a graduate of Cranberry High School.

She last worked as a laundry aide/housekeeper at Golden Living Center in Oil City.

Previously she had been employed at the Pines of Olean, Owens Glass Plant, Card Company and Bradford Hospital.

Mrs. Wilson enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family members, reading and jig saw puzzles.

She was confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church.

On January 8, 1993 she married John A. Wilson, who preceded her in death on September 24, 2001.

Surviving are a son, Jerry W. Winger and wife Michele; a daughter, Carylle Ann Winger and companion Clint Finefrock; 11 grandchildren, Justin Winger, Zachery Woodcock, Jessica Taylor, Kayla Taylor, Ashley Finefrock, Brandalynn Finefrock, Britteny Winger, Amanda Winger, Samantha Winger, Breeanna Finefrock and Casandra Finefrock; and 5 great grandchildren.

Also surviving are three brothers, Lester S. Neal, Jr. and wife Carolyn Jean, Clyde W. Neal and wife Alberta, and Frederick L. Neal; one sister, Laura M. Carson and husband Paul; a special aunt, Margaret Spence; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, John C. Neal and her former husband Willard Winger.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 pm Wednesday in Christ Lutheran Church.

Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.

The Morrison Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Thumbnail (1)Rose Miller Braden, 52, of Erie, passed away at 7:40 p.m. on Saturday, April 12th, at UPMC Hamot in Erie, following a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Born December 30, 1961 in Titusville, Rose was the daughter of the late Cecil and Pearl Krepp Cole. She was married to Randy Braden an he survives.

Rose was a graduate of Franklin High School. She was a homemaker, who enjoyed spending time with her family. Rose was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler’s, Nascar, and Harley Davidson fan. She also enjoyed reading and gardening.

In addition to her husband, Randy, Rose is survived by her daughter, Lana Mestas and her fiance’, Timothy Dawes, of Oil City; her sister, Carla Daily and her husband, Jim, of Franklin; and her two grandchildren, Precious Clark and Dante Vogan, both of Oil City. Rose is also survived by her step-father, LaVerne Wentworth of Franklin; step-brother, Randy Wentworth of Sandy Lake; her step-sister, Janice Wentworth of Sandy Lake, and Julie Wentworth of Franklin; and numerous brothers-in law, sisters-in-law, and her step-children.

Family and friends of Rose will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Wednesday, April 16th from 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 17th.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Gardinier Funeral Home in Rose’s memory to help defray funeral expenses.

N. Dale Haugh, 90, Route 322, Brookville, died Friday, April 11, 2014, at McKinley Health Center, Brookville.

Born Aug. 19, 1923, in Brookville, he was the son of the late Edward Haugh and AnnaBelle Shea Haugh.

He was married to Joan Parsons on June 21, 1946, in Reidsburg. She died June 19, 2012.

He was in the U.S. Army, 148th Combat Engrs World War II European Theater.

He worked for the maintenance department for Clarion University.

Haugh was a member of the Roseville Church of Christ, VFW Post 204 Brookville and American Legion Post 102 Brookville, and a charter member World War II, Brookville Senior Citizens.

He is survived by two sons, Leonard D. (Kathy) Haugh of Brookville and Lawrence B. (Ruth) Haugh of Brookville; a sister, Bernice Alexander of Brookville; as well as six grandchildren and 10 great-
grandchildren.

Aside from his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by a son, Lewis Haugh; a daughter, Linda Haugh; five sisters and a brother.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2014, at the McKinney Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at Roseville Church of Christ with Minister John Kerr officiating. Burial will be in Roseville Bethel Cemetery in Union Township. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

The Rev. Gary D. Keith, 44, of Hawthorn, Pa., died Sunday, April 13, 2014, at Punsxutawney Area Hospital.

Born July 22, 1969, in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Elmer D. Keith and Patrica E. Choate, who survives, of Olathe, Kan.

He graduated from Moravia High School in Moravia, Iowa.

He received a degree in religion from Mid America Nazarene University in Olathe, Kan. He also attended Nazarene Bible College.

He was married to Amanda Hetrick on August 7, 1993, in Brookville.

He was the pastor of Hawthorn Church of the Nazarene for the past two years. Prior to that, he was the pastor at The Church of the Nazarene in Punxsutawney for nine years.

Gary liked to travel. He enjoyed playing video games with his children. He was a sports enthusiast and loved his Pirates.

Along with his mother and wife, Gary is survived by two sons, Caleb J. and Elijah D. Keith; two daughters, Abi’Gail E. and Grace R. Keith; and one sister, Donna Keith Oster and husband John of Olathe, Kan. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

His family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014, at the Hawthorn Church of the Nazarene, 1142 Chestnut St., Hawthorn, Pa.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014, at the church.

Interment will be at the Ohl Cemetery, Beaver Township, Jefferson County.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Furlong Funeral Home, Summerville.

Per the family’s request, memorial donations may be made to the Hawthorn Church of the Nazarene, or the Lions Club.

Rev. Leonard S. Burchfield

Rev. Leonard S. Burchfield, of McCune Road, Cochranton (Canal Twp.) passed away at 7:55 pm on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at the Sugar Creek Station following a period of declining health. He was 95.

He was born in Geneva, Pa on December 18, 1918, a son of the late Jerome and Alice (Loper) Burchfield. In 1938 he married the former Mae Randall who preceded him in death in 1983. On May 26, 1984 he subsequently married the former Evelyn Cole who survives. Leonard was a member of the Canal Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church. He had an extensive career in the ministry serving with the Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Connection, having been granted his ministerial license in 1945 at which time he was serving as the pastor of the Punxsutawney AWM Church.

He then went onto serve in fulltime ministry at the Barkley AWM Church, Homer City, East Conneaut AWM Church, Conneaut, Ohio, The Greenwood Wesleyan Methodist Church, Cochranton it was during this time that he was ordained as an Elder within the connection. Leonard continued to serve as a pastor at the North Salem AWM Church, Greenville, Hillsdale AWM Church, Hillsdale Pa., Akron Maple Valley AWM Church, Akron, Ohio, Penn Run AWM Church, Penn Run, Pa, Cottage Hill AWM Church New Bethlehem, PA, West Middlesex AWM Church, West Middlesex, PA, Fairmont AWM Church Fairmont, WV. Following his service at the Titusville AWM Church he retired from active ministry. During the period of 1967-1974 and from 1979 until his death he was involved in Evangelism work throughout the AWM conference.

In addition to his wife, Evelyn he is survived by a daughter, Phyllis Fitzgerald and her husband Arnold of Titusville, a granddaughter, Heather Rand of Titusville, 3 great grandchildren, David, Danae and Stephen Rand of Titusville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mae, two sisters, Helen Vernon and Mildred (Dot) McEntire and two brothers, Ronald Burchfield and Victor Burchfield.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Canal Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church, Deckards Run Road, Utica, PA. with Rev. William M. Cope and Rev. Robert Luther officiating. The committal service and interment will follow at the Anderson Cemetery, Greenwood Twp. Friends may call at the Robert L. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. Perry Hwy., Sheakleyville on Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 pm and at the church on Thursday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Joan H. Cangemi, 85, of 21 ½ E. Fifth St. Oil City, PA. died at 3:35 P.M. Monday, April 14, 2014, at the Golden Living Center in Oil City after an extended illness.

Born April 23, 1928, in Oil City, PA., she was the daughter of the late Harold L. Smith & Marian Weaver Smith.

Joan was a graduate of Oil City High School.

She was married on July 27, 1957 in St. Joseph Church to Stephen J. Cangemi and he preceded her in death on August 20, 1996.

Mrs. Cangemi had worked as a secretary at National Fuel Gas.
Joan was a member of St. Stephen’s Church, the Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She is survived by the following nieces and nephews, Jim and Dave Bruce, Karen Stanton, Kim Radford , Kathy Welch and Jim and Christopher Blaney, Carol Russell, Donna Madras, Tim, Kevin, Dennis and Sharon Clifford, Lori Clifford-Hacker, Joan Sabo, James Smith and Mary Beth Smith.

She was preceded in death by four sisters Charlotte Blaney, Dorothea Bruce, Lavonne Clifford and Geraldine Smith; a brother, James Smith; and a nephew Michael Smith.

Their will be no viewing or visitation.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday in St. Stephen’s Church with Fr. Matthew Ruyechan, Pastor, Presiding.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Stephen’s Second Century Fund.

Dudley Phipps Warner Jr.

Dudley Phipps Warner Jr., 93 formerly of Meadville, PA passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the Oakwood Heights, A Presbyterian Homes Community, Oil City, PA.

Dudley was born August 16, 1920 in Franklin, PA the son of the late Dudley Phipps Warner Sr. and Margaret Lillian Shaffer Warner. He married Anna Margaret Tarr who also was of Franklin, on April 30, 1948. She preceded him in death on September 13, 2013.

As a youth he attended Sharpsville High School, and became an Eagle Scout. After serving in the United States Army during World War II, he obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Temple University and became the Sales Manager of Warner & Smith Motor Freight, Inc. in Meadville, holding that position until he retired.
He was active in community affairs, especially as a member of the First Christian Church of Meadville, where he sang in the Men’s Choir and active with visiting the sick and needy. He also witnessed at the Crawford County Prison, and for many years, organized the Christian Laymen’s Gospel League at the Crawford County Fair. He had also served as a “Red Coat” at Meadville Medical Center. Dudley loved the outdoor life and sports, especially swimming, camping and canoe paddling. He spent many happy vacations enjoying these things at the family camp in Northern Ontario.

Dudley is survived by a brother; David W. Warner of Exeter, New Hampshire, a sister; Earla Warner Adams of Leesburg, Florida, ten nieces and nephews, notably Patricia Mellring of Cochranton, PA, Robert Deacle of Raleigh, North Carolina, Diane Adams of Hollidaysburg, PA and a niece by marriage, Jackie Rae of Oil City, PA.

In addition to parents and his wife, Dudley was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Deacle and a brother, Edmund Warner, both long time residents of Franklin, PA.

Family and friends may call at the Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home & Crematory, 614 Baldwin Street, Meadville, PA on Thursday from 12 noon to 2:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 2:00 PM with Roger Smith, of First Christian Church of Meadville, officiating. Dudley will be laid to rest next to his wife in the Franklin Cemetery, Franklin, PA
