Linville Douglas “Doug” Hughes Sr.

Linville Douglas “Doug” Hughes Sr., of the village of Mariasville, near Emlenton, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 3:50 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2013 while under the care of AseraCare Hospice at Golden Living in Shippenville.

Doug was born June 8, 1943 in Sloan’s Valley, KY, the last child of Hubert and Hattie Hill Hughes.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores Rumbaugh Brunsgaard Hughes, whom he married in North Olmsted, OH on July 25, 1981.

Doug graduated from Sloan’s Valley High School, where he was well-known basketball star. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Foseco of Brook Park, OH and later retired from United Airlines in Denver, CO. Doug attended New Zion E.C. Church in Emlenton and always enjoyed discussing doctrinal and scriptural topics. Doug was an avid sports fan and was well known for his love of the Cleveland Browns, the Cavaliers, and Indians. While in Denver, Doug cheered for the Broncos and Avalanche, and while living in Western Pennsylvania, he was a Penguins fan, and loved all things basketball in his home state of Kentucky. Doug made many friends wherever he lived and worked.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Linville Douglas Hughes Jr. of Georgia and Michael Hughes and his wife, Karen, of Dallas, GA; a stepson, Larry Brunsgaard and his wife, Angela, of North Ridgeville, OH; eight grandchildren, Christopher, Courtney and her husband, Zachary, Renee and her husband, Gerald, E.D. Lee, Tyler, Caitlyn, Robert A. “Drew”, and Nina, as well as a great granddaughter, Savannah; a brother, Bobbie Hughes and his wife, Dot, of Somerset, KY; a sister, Mary Helen Francisco of New Orleans, LA and Richmond, KY; two brothers- in-laws, Edward Rumbaugh of Emlenton and Robert D. Rumbaugh and his wife, Julie, of Yorktown, VA; his mother-in-law, Jean Rumbaugh of Emlenton, and a number of nieces and nephews residing from coast to coast, and two children who were very special to Doug, Dylan and Alia Fulkerson of Parker.

In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by two brothers, Hiram, Howard “Jack”, a sister, Edna Schobin, and a step-grandson, Shane Harris, and his father-in-law, Robert Rumbaugh.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton, from 1 – 3 and 6 – 8 p.m. today (Wednesday). A funeral service will be held from the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Charles J. Campbell, pastor of New Zion E.C. Church, Emlenton, and Pastor Ray Lovett, Baptist pastor and long-time family friend, co-officiating. Interment will be in Rimersburg Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to New Zion E.C.
