John R. Rupert Jr.

John R. Rupert Jr., 81, of Horsecreek Road in Seneca, died Saturday afternoon, February 8, 2014 in Clarion Hospital following an extended illness.

He was born in Oil City on October 1, 1932 to the late John R. and Wealtha (Smoyer) Rupert.

He worked more than forty years at the Pennzoil Refinery in Rouseville.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia M. (Paup) Rupert.

There will be no visitation and a memorial service is being planned for spring/summer and details will be announced at a later date.

Interment will be in Venus Cemetery.

Maxine L. “Mick” Alabaugh

Maxine L. “Mick” Alabaugh, 80, formerly of 418 Chase Street, Kane, died Thursday evening, January 30, 2014, at The Lutheran Home at Kane, where she resided since November, 2012.

Born September 28, 1933 in Leeper, she was the daughter of Henry E. and Helen G. Frill Heasley. On March 21, 1959, in Venus, she married Allison V. “Jack” Alabaugh, who survives.

Mrs. Alabaugh worked at Stackpole in Kane for twenty-five years, retiring in 1977. She was of the Catholic faith and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of Kane, are a daughter, Luann (Bob) Larson of Kane; four sons, Stephen (Helen) Heasley of Kane, Greg (Trisha) Alabaugh of Sheffield, Ken (Chris) Alabaugh of Russell and Ted (Sandy) Alabaugh of Kane; three brothers, Norman Heasley of Leeper, Bob Heasley of Tylersburg and Richard Heasley of Leeper; and two sisters, Mildred Cussins of Marienville and Nancy Zacherl in Texas. Ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive, plus several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death, besides her parents, by a daughter, Kathy Wilson; a sister, Dorothy Regina; and a brother, George “Ike” Heasley.

Friends may call from noon until 1:00 on Monday at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc. in Kane, at which time a service will be held there with the rev. David Pflieger, chaplain of The Lutheran Home at Kane, officiating.

Interment will follow in St. Callistus Cemetery, Kane.

Lois Faragher, age 77, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on Monday, February 10th, 2014, peacefully in her sleep at 4:00 a.m.

She is survived by her husband James Faragher; daughters Pamela Kearney and Kevin of Rimersburg, Pa., Kimberly and Carrie of Phoenix, Arizona; and son Steven Zilke of St. Louis, Missouri.

She is also survived by eight granddaughters and three grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three infant sons.

Services will be held in Phoenix, Arizona, at a later date.

OI511736910_oliverOliver (Richard) Covington, 85, of Keely Road, Franklin died at 3:00 a.m. on Monday, February 10, 2014 at  The Caring Place in Franklin.

Born May 28, 1928 in Salamanca, NY, Dick was the son of the late Harold and Jeannetta (Schwab) Covington.  He was raised by his grandparents, George and Ida Schwab, on their farm on Buttermilk Hill.

On July 2, 1949 he married the former Gwendolyn A. Whann, who preceded him in death on October 12, 2008.

Mr. Covington proudly served his country in The Army in World War II earning a WWII Victory Ribbon.

Until his retirement, he was employed as a machinist for Joy for 35 years.

He was a member of the Elks Club BPOE #110 and the IAM #1842 Union and was a 4-H leader of the Ruff Riders. Dick enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and watching his grandchildren’s sporting events – basketball, baseball, track, and cross country.

Dick is survived by his son, Steven R. Covington and his wife, Celina of Franklin; two daughters, Linda Shouey and her husband, Gale of Franklin, and Karen Hoover and her husband, Marc of Franklin; a sister, Carol Robertson of Franklin; and 13 grandchildren, Justin Palmer and his wife, Kasey, Lindsey Snyder and her husband, Jason, Leah Ahlin and her husband, Rob, Matthew Shouey and his wife, Renee, Mark Shouey, Amy McCracken and her significant other, Mel, Andrew McCracken and his significant other, Melanie, Alex Hoover, Jay Covington, Zachary Covington, Ryan Covington and his wife, Lauren, Caitlin Gramley and her husband, Nathan, and Erin Ducharme.

He is additionally survived by his 15 great-grandchildren, Bailey, Ceara, Sophia, Jacob, Langley, Mariah, Noah, Camryn, Aidan, Asher, Rowyn, Destiny, Meadow, Mikayla, and Mackenzie; and his beagle, Fritz.

Mr. Covington was preceded in death by his parents, listed above; his wife, Gwendolyn A. Covington; his son, Charles “Chip” Covington; and his brother, Roy Robertson.

Friends will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 from 3-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Roy Gearhart of the Galloway United Methodist Church, officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard.

Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery.

Alice Marie Strauser

Alice Marie Strauser, 57, of Rimersburg, PA, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Clarion Hospital with her family by her side.

She was born on February 10, 1956 in Rimersburg, the daughter of Charlotte “Tillie” Jean Yori.

Marie lived in the Rimersburg area all her life and attended the New Athens Church of God of Prophecy. She was a hard worker with a strong work ethic who had many jobs throughout her life. Marie worked for 10 years at Beverly Health Care as a nurse’s aide and health assistant, over 20 years at the Sligo and Callensburg Restaurants as a cook and waitress, and most recently at the Clarion Psychiatric Center for the last 10 years in housekeeping.

In her free time, she enjoyed going out to eat and doing yard work with George. Above all, she loved spending time with her family – especially her grandchildren. Marie will be best remembered for the love she had for her family, her feisty personality and her quick-witted sense of humor.

She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, George Strauser, whom she married December 23, 1972; son, George E. Strauser, Jr. and wife, Kelly, of Brookville; daughter, Kathryn J. Miller and husband, Drew, of Perryville; grandchildren, Alicia and Zackery Miller, and Jaxson Strauser; and brothers, Dale Hockenberry, of East Brady, Chuck Hockenberry and wife, Donna, of Tarentum, and Don Hockenberry and wife, Sue, of Sligo.

Marie was preceded in death by her mother; brother, Paul Hockenberry; and sister, Donna J. Hockenberry.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at the Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 758 Main Street, Rimersburg, PA.

Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Rimer Hill Cemetery, Templeton, Pennsylvania.

Ruby L. Horn ,82, of 912 Colbert Ave. Oil City died at 4:35 P.M. Monday Feb. 10, 2014 at her home following an extended illness.

Born May 17, 1931 in Pinoak, she was the daughter of the late Leland C. Black Sr. & Luna Mae Roberts Black.

Ruby was a graduate of Cranberry High School.

She was married on Sept. 22, 1973 to Dennis J. Horn and he survives.

A homemaker, Ruby enjoyed crocheting, going to craft shows and doing puzzlebooks.

She enjoyed being in the kitchen and canning.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by five children and their spouses, Connie Moore & her significant other Bruce Morrison of Oil City, Mark Feely & his wife Michele of Townville, Jay Feely of Seneca

Joseph L. Knight

Joseph L. Knight, 77 of Clarion passed away on February 11, 2014, after a lengthy illness.

Born on July 24, 1936 in Shippenville, PA and he was the son of Emmett and Jessie Hurst Knight.

Joseph graduated in 1954 Shippenville High School. After high school he studied carpentry at the Williamsport Trade School.

On November 28, 1964, Joseph was married to the former Marjorie “Marge” McCord who survives.

He was a member of Greenwood United Methodist Church in Marienville.

Joseph was a self employed general contractor and a self taught Luthier. He had been prefecting his skills for the last 18 years. Joseph was the owner of Strad Jr. Violin Shop which he operated from his small workshop.

Through out his life time he enjoyed running beagles, playing 500 bid with his family, and also attending bluegrass festivals.

Joseph is survived by his wife Marge and their children: a son James “Jim” Knight of Pocono Lake, PA; Lesley Lander and husband Raymond of Lickingville; and Michelle Knight of Pittsburgh. Granddaughters: Sadie Jo and Kaitlyn Jane Schmader both of Lickingville and close family friend Shelby Reagle of Oil City. Also survived by brother Emmett R. and Delores Knight of Shippenville; a sister Bessie Mae Metzger of Pittsburgh; a brother-in-law George G. Wise Sr. of Shippenville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Cora A Hotchkins and Daisy J. Wise.

Friends and family will be received on 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the Faller Funeral Home, Inc. in Fryburg.

A funeral service for Joseph will be held at Greenwood United Methodist Church in Marienville on Friday, February 14, 2014, at 11:00 am with Pastor Daniel Richter officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery following the service.

OI1158168568_ZinzAlvinAlvin George Zinz, Sr, 70, of Lamberton Road, Franklin, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family at 6:45 a.m. on Sunday, February 9.

Born January 26, 1944 in Sewickley, Alvin was the son of the late George Edward and Freida Leora Johnson Zinz. He was married April 12, 1969 to the former Darlene Pearl Gegogeine, and she survives.

Alvin was a Vietnam Era Army Veteran who served in Korea as a radio operator. While in the U.S. Army, he received the Sharpshooter (Rifle M-1) and Basic MSLMAN Badge. He retired from Franklin Industries after working for 29 years as a crane operator. Alvin enjoyed hunting and the sport of archery, and had a United States Patent for an “arrow rest” for bows. He especially enjoyed spending endless hours with his family and friends. He was a lifetime and charter member of the Rainbow Bowman Archery Club, and was also a member of the Pennsylvania State Archery Association. Alvin enjoyed teaching archery to adults and children.

In addition to his wife, Alvin is survived by his daughter, Christina Marie Love of Franklin; his son, Alvin George Zinz, Jr. and his wife, Theresa, of Greenbrier, Arkansas; and his daughter, Cynthia Diane Rice and her husband, Brian, of Clarks Mills. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren, Lisa Ann Love, of Conway, Arkansas, Samantha Jo Love and Brian David Love of Rouseville, Kellye Brittani Zinz of Greenbrier, Arkansas, and Brandon DeWayne Rice and Austin Robert Rice, both of Clarks Mills. He is additionally survived by his twin brother, Alan Edward Zinz of Cooperstown, his brother, Dennis Dean Zinz, and his wife, Kathy, of Franklin; his sister, Pamela Joy Ritts and her husband, Mike, of Venus; and many nieces and nephews.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, George and Leora; his sisters, Diane and Cynthia; his niece, Kalyn Kaster; and his nephew, Adam Zinz.

A Memorial Service for Alvin will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 13 at the Franklin Church of the Nazarene, with Rev. David Smith, pastor of the church, officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the V.E.T. S. Honor Guard. The Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, will be handling arrangements.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Rainbow Bowman Archery Club – c/o Bob Blauser, 106 Holmarc Blvd, Franklin PA 16323; and/or the American Heart Association – PO Box 5120, Chicago IL 60693.

Retired from Nationwide Insurance Co. after 32 years. Member of Central College Presbyterian Church.

Survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Meabon; children, Mark (Pam) Meabon of Dillsburg, PA, Sue Ann (Jim) Langenbach of Westerville, Ellen (Carr) Mumford of Charlotte, NC and Beverly (Fawaz) Hamoui of Westerville; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

William “Bill” Riddle

William “Bill” Riddle, 88, died Friday, February 7, 2014 at Rainey Hospice House.

He was born in Clintonville, PA on October 31, 1925 and relocated to S.C. in 1976.

Mr. Riddle was the son of the late Lon Edward and Ethel Cross Riddle. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII in the Atlantic and South Pacific. He was fire chief for several years of the Clintonville Fire Department in Clintonville, PA.

Mr. Riddle was retired from William Riddle Excavating Construction whose work was primarily in the northeastern United States. He was a member of the Union Grove United Methodist Church and of Williamston American Legion Post 121.

Surviving are children, Barry Riddle, Robert Riddle, Bruce Riddle; step-children, Lynda, Robert, Mary Alice, Rob, Jodi; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-two great – grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Griffin; Patricia Harling, a wonderful caretaker for seven and a half years; loving friend, Holly Fornash.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson with the Rev. Louise Carter officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621.

Martha M. Dunkle

Martha M. Dunkle, 90, of Callensburg, passed away on February 11, 2014 at the Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born on May 31, 1923 in Perryville, Clarion County, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Irene (Reichart) Say.

After she graduated from Parker High School in 1942, Martha moved to Philadelphia where she worked as a civilian typist for the United States Army Signal Corps during World War II from 1942 to 1946. Martha then attended Clarion State Teacher’s College and the Pennsylvania State University, studying education and home economics. In 1963, she went to work for the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry doing office work for 17 years.

On December 22, 1949, she married Gerald E. Dunkle, who survives. Martha is also survived by one son, Thomas Dunkle and his wife Barbara of Mechanicsville, NY; a granddaughter, Maryellen, of Troy, NY; a grandson, Gordon, of Colonie, NY; a sister, Margaret Hamilton, of Raleigh, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory in Clarion. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no public visitation or memorial services.

Rose Katherine Casey, 61, of Emlenton, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

She was born on October 23, 1952 in Newark, New Jersey.

Devoted to her family, she was always putting others before herself and looking for ways to help. She loved to garden, yard sale, and anything to spend time with her children and grandson.

Rose was employed in sales all her life, constantly working her hardest. She was a long time employee of the Cedarview Memorial Park in Strattanville.

She is survived by one daughter, Kimberly (Rick) Oesterling of Chicora, one son, Justin Casey of Strattanville, one grandson, Tyler Oesterling (pictured), and her husband, Mark Casey.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2014, at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, 638 Wood Street, Clarion, with Father Mark Rusnak, officiating.

Entombment will be held at the Cedarview Memorial Park in Strattanville.

Darlene L. Davis, 74, of Franklin died Tuesday February 11, 2014 at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh.

A daughter of Robert F. and Carrie Louise Wice Baker she was born in Franklin on May 21, 1939. She was a graduate of Franklin High School.

She began her working career at Polk Center. She then went to work at Baker’s Transportation. She began as a driver, moved on to clerical work and retired as a supervisor.

Darlene was a member of the East Grove United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her family, she served as a 4-H leader when her children were younger and now attended many of her grandchildren’s activities. She had enjoyed camping, cooking and making candy just like her mother.

In 1964 she married Jerome L. “Jerry” Davis; he died on August 22, 2007. Surviving are a daughter Jody L. Long of Polk, a son Jeffrey L. Davis of Franklin and two grandchildren Jordan and Logan Davis of Franklin. A sister Karen Phillips and her husband Clair “Willie” of Franklin complete her family.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law Dawn Davis and a son-in-law Robert Long Sr.

Friends will be received in the Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 312 W. Park St., Franklin from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Friday.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Lea A. Guiney, pastor of the East Grove United Methodist Church officiating.

Interment will follow in Graham Cemetery.

James E. Daley, 86, of 133 W. Bloss St. Titusville, passed away Sunday evening February 16, 2014 at his residence following a brief illness.

Jim was born on January 14, 1928 in Titusville, a son of the late Joseph and Susan Barker Daley. He was married to Alma M. Lancaster on Sept. 13, 1947 at St. Walburga Church. She preceded him in death on Jan. 16, 2010.

Jim had attended the Titusville schools. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Navy.

Jim was a toolmaker most of his life. He began his machining career at Hillcrest Crankshaft in Titusville and later worked for Vertical Seal in Pleasantville, and Titusville Crankshaft and Machining Company. He was a partner with D & B Machine and Tool from 1970 to 1975. He was next employed at GTE Sylvania from 1975 to 1981. He then was hired as plant manager at Jarecki Industries in Charlotte, NC from 1981 to 1983. He then went to

Associated Spring in Corry until 1984, at which time he began working for General Electric in Grove City as a toolmaker until his retirement in 1988.

Jim was a member of St. Walburga Church. He was a life member of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW and a member of the Cleo J. Ross Post 368 American Legion.

Jim enjoyed Canadian hunting and fishing trips with his grandchildren and was proud to have harvested three moose in his lifetime. He loved the outdoors and spending time with his family.

Jim was a very loving and compassionate man who lived his life to the fullest. He was always eager to lend a helping hand to family and friends.

He is survived by three children; Mark Daley and wife Kathryn of Franklin, Christopher Daley of Titusville, and Meredith Farrar and husband Craig of Titusville; five grandchildren, James J. Daley and wife Ruth of Jackson, Michigan, Jason R. Daley and fiancée Tammy of Franklin, Christopher J. Farrar and wife Jill of Pittsburgh, Jeffrey M. Daley of Jackson, Michigan, and Tricia N. Daley of Franklin; four great grandchildren, Matthew W. Daley, Aaron J. Farrar, Audra Farrar, and Alexander Farrar; and a special nephew Donald Daley of Pleasantville.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank and Frederick Daley, and Joseph “Sonny” Schroeder; and a sister, Doris Schroeder.

Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 AM at St. Walburga Church with Fr. Walter E. Packard, pastor of the Titusville Catholic Community, as celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Catharines Cemetery.
