Mary Helen Mead

Mary Helen Mead, 84, of 449 Halyday Run Road, Oil City, died at 1:10 am., Friday, May 9, 2014, at Oakwood Heights in Oil City.

Born July 20, 1929 in Little Cooley PA, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Byron H. and Albertina E. Friggle Mead.

Mary completed course at the Institute for Medical Record Library Personnel in Chicago in 1951. She then had training at St. Vincent Hospital in Erie.

She had worked as a medical record transcriber at the Oil City Hospital, and for over 20 years was the office manager for Dr. Leo Levine.

Mary was of the Nazarene faith.

Surviving are 2 nephews, Tedd Heckathorn of Oil City and Byron Hoot of Wexford and 2 nieces, Sherry Heckathorn of Marysville WA and Esther Dooley of Paulding OH.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Fern Heckathorn and June Hoot.

At Mary’s direction, there will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of her family.

Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.

Lillian Karlyn Frid Ordiway

Lillian Karlyn Frid Ordiway, 88, of Clarion, died peacefully but unexpectedly at her home on May 7, 2014.

Born in Mt. Jewett, PA, on September 8, 1925, she was the daughter of Gustav and Mattea Johnson Frid.

A 1943 graduate of Mt. Jewett High School, Lillian worked as a law office secretary for Pennsylvania House Representative Albert W. Johnson in Smethport.

She was married on February 7, 1948 to Verle Ordiway.

During her children’s school years she was a homemaker who truly knew how to “keep house.” Her bread-baking skills were unparalleled.

She later worked in the Men’s Department at Wein’s Clothing Store in Clarion. She enjoyed visiting with the customers as much as making a sale. Many local residents will remember her from her long tenure there.

Lillian treasured the simple life and counted Clarion County’s many Amish families among her dearest friends. She loved music, Christmas movies, snowfall, wild birds, and knick-knacks, Amish quilts and antiques.

Her Victorian Christmas tree reflected Lillian’s appreciation of collectibles and the past. She proudly proclaimed herself “old-fashioned.”

Lillian is survived by four children, Trace Ordiway and his wife, Lori, of Dallas, TX, Kirby Ordiway of Austin, TX, Holly Ordiway Thiem of Clarion, and Clark Ordiway of Clarion; a step-daughter Kay Ordiway Clark and her husband, Frank, of Lake Mary, FL; and a brother, Norman Frid of Grand Haven, MI.

She is also survived by grandchildren Mathieu Thiem and his wife, Brooklyne, Sam Thiem, Crowe Thiem, Brett Ordiway, Josh Ordiway, and Seth Ordiway; and one great-grandchild, Asa Thiem.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Verle Norman Ordiway; two brothers, Oscar and Eric Frid; and a sister, Ruth Frid Bixby.

A memorial service will be held at 2 P.M. on Monday, May 12, 2014, at the Grace Lutheran Church, Clarion, with Pastor Harold O. Jacobson, pastor of the Grace Lutheran Church, presiding.

A gathering will be held to celebrate her life at her home after the service. Per her wishes, Lillian was cremated, and her ashes will be scattered from the Kinzua Bridge in McKean County, PA.

Joseph R. Nosker

Joseph R. Nosker, 85, of Titusville, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014 following a sudden illness.

Mr. Nosker was born on September 12, 1928 at Youngsville, PA, a son of the late George J. Nosker, Sr. and Theressa Bunce Nosker. He was married to Mary Jane Weber on Aug. 8, 1955 at Centerville, PA. She preceded him in death on June 2, 2005.

He was a graduate of the Pleasantville High School, class of 1946.

Mr. Nosker was a veteran of World War II and of the Korean Conflict. He entered the US Army at Pittsburgh on June 4, 1946 and was honorably discharged on Nov. 5, 1947 at Ft. McPherson, GA with the rank of corporal. He immediately reenlisted and was honorably discharged on March 21, 1952.

Mr. Nosker had been employed as an electrician at the former Cyclops Specialty Steel Corp. in Titusville for many years until his retirement.

He was a life member of the Tidioute VFW Post No. 8803 and of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW in Titusville; and was a member of the Cleo J. Ross Post 368 American Legion in Titusville.

“Uncle Joe” owned a cabin near the original family home in Carsonville for many years and hosted many family reunions there. He enjoyed traveling to casinos with his friends, poker being his game of choice. He also enjoyed his many mornings having coffee at the local McDonald’s with friends, and his time spent at the YMCA. One of his hobbies was woodworking and he made many bird feeders, chairs, stools, etc. for his loved ones.

He is survived by his girlfriend, Joan “Rusty” Pokay of Oil City; his best friend, Gloria Kutska of Titusville; his sister-in-law, Evelyn Nosker-Bickel of Meadville; his niece, Linda Litzinger and husband John of Meadville; nephews, Wayne

Nosker and wife Marie of Meadville, James Morrison and wife Linda of Sugar Grove, and Donald Morrison and wife Eileen of Titusville; and many great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, George James Nosker, Jr.; a sister, Olive “Peg” Morrison; and a nephew, Russell Morrison and his wife Kathleen.

Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Thursday May 15th from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at which time the funeral service will be conducted. Full military honors will be provided by officers and members of the Titusville VFW and American Legion.

Interment will be in Neilltown Cemetery.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Crawford County Humane Society or to the charity of one’s choice.

Richard Dean “Shorty” Reed

Richard Dean “Shorty” Reed, age 66, of Shippenville, passed away Thursday evening, May 8, 2014 at his home.

Born March 27, 1948 in Brookville, he was a son of the late Mac Gerald and Evelyn Beisel Reed.

He was a 1966 graduate of Clarion-Limestone High School and was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from January 1968 to December 1969. He was a Specialist 4, Company B, 97th SIG BN USAREUR, stationed in Germany. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Marksman M-14 and Sharpshooter M-16.

Dick married the former Sally Jordan on March 3, 1983 in the Shippenville Lutheran Church. She survives.

He worked for Glass Containers of Marienville from 1970 until the plant closed in 1982 and in 1983 began working as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant for the Laurel Eye Clinic in Brookville, retiring in 2000.

In his retirement, Dick enjoyed delivering equipment for Terry W. Kahle of Knox and teaching Hunters Safety courses for the PA Game Commission.

He was proud of being an excellent marksman and enjoyed hunting.

Dick was known for his kindness and generosity and will be missed by his “girls”, Maggie May and Gypsy Rose.

Survivors include his wife, Sally; his twin brother: Robert Reed and wife, Barbara, of Fisher; Brothers: John Reed of Fisher; Dennis “Hip” Reed and his wife, Molly, of Clarion and Mac “Smoke” Reed of California; sister, Patricia Schneider of California; Mother-in-law, Ione Jordan of West Freedom; Three sisters-in-law: Evelyn Reed of New Castle; Kay Caldwell and her husband, Tom, of Parker and Charlotte Callander and her husband, Larry, also of Parker.

Dick is also survived by nine nephews: James II, Jeff, Mike, Dave and Kevin Reed; Dale and Scott Caldwell; Mark Callander and Craig Kerr; Twelve nieces: Jennifer Reed DeLong, Kim Reed Neal, Sherry Hornberger, Shelly Miller, Katie Reed, Christen Schneider, Chelsi Reed, Hanna Reed, Brittney Reed, Debbie Caldwell Bobbert, Lynne Caldwell Sleppy and Mary Callander Rothen.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Reed; Father-in-law, Dale Jordan and a special nephew and “The best hunting buddy he ever had”, Michael Callander.

Family and friends will be received from Noon to 2 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2014 at the William N. Rupert Mortuary, Inc., 430 Mendenhall Avenue, Knox.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2014 in the Shippenville United Methodist Church, 123 Main Street, Shippenville, PA, with the Reverend Randy Evans, Clarion/Forest VNA Hospice Chaplain, officiating over the service.

Military honors will be accorded at the beginning of the service by the Berlin-Bowser Post #720 of the American Legion in Knox.

Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Shippenville.

Donald R. Claypoole

Donald R. Claypoole, 86, of Emlenton, Richland Twp., Clarion County, passed away Thursday afternoon, May 8, 2014 at UPMC Northwest in Seneca.

Mr. Claypoole was born in Kittanning on November 12, 1927. He was the son of the late Craig and Oda Campbell Claypool.

Don attended the St. Petersburg United Methodist Church. He was employed as a truck driver for many years and was a proud member of The Million Mile Club. He was a member of Canby Lodge #520 F&AM in St. Petersburg. He was an avid and talented golfer and had scored a hole in one eight times.

Don was married to the former Donna C. Hahn on June 11, 1948. Mrs. Claypoole preceded him death on March 13, 2013.

He is survived by a son, Mitchell R. Claypoole and his wife, Terri, of West Springfield, two step granddaughters, Cindy Grazioli of East Brady and Carrie Vercuski of Streetsboro, OH; four step grandchildren, and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents and wife, Don was preceded in death by a son, Michael C. Claypool.

A private family service was held Saturday morning at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., St. Petersburg, with the Rev. Dan Myers, pastor of St. Petersburg United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment followed at St. Petersburg Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Petersburg United Methodist Church, PO Box 281, St. Petersburg, PA 16054. Cheryl M. Parker, 39, of Oil City died peacefully at home Friday, May 9, 2014. She was born December 20, 1974 in Meadville a daughter of Gary Frank Parker and Shirley K. Luzier. She loved scrapbooking and putting together pages of special occasions. She enjoyed gardening and was an avid animal lover, welcoming any and all animals to the house. She was especially fond of her dog, Lucy and cat, Sassy and all of her kittens. She is survived by her husband Michael Fargo; two daughters, Kayla Butcheck and Dawn Parker; granddaughter, Paytin Bellinger all of Oil City; three sisters, Brenda Parker of Meadville, Tonya Andrews of Conneaut Lake and Judy Cornell of Blooming Valley; her grandmother, Mary Luzier of Centerville and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 12-2 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Kiser Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Robert W. Floyd D. Southwick

Floyd D. Southwick, 91, of Oil City, passed from this life to the next on Sat., May 10 in his home surrounded by family.

Born Nov. 29, 1922, in Oil Creek Township, Crawford County, he was the son of the late John and Ida Sturgiss Southwick.

He was a graduate of Hydetown High School.

Floyd served as a Private First Class in the U.S. Army in the Philippines during World War II where he received three bronze stars.

He married Dorothy Jean Schoch in December, 1946.

Floyd retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

He was active in the Cranberry Lions Club and was a member of Seneca United Methodist Church.

Floyd loved life, his family, and his dog “Laddie”.

His hobbies included: gardening, woodworking, hunting, and fishing. With his love of woodworking and fishing, he created his own wooden fishing boat. He loved playing cards especially 500. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include: his wife Jean, his 2 daughters: Linda and her husband Chuck Hamaide, Nancy Mansfield, and his son Dale and his wife Sandy. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Matthew C. Hamaide and wife Samantha, Julie M. Hamaide, and Michael C. Hamaide, Michael R. Mansfield and wife Jacki, and Sky Mansfield, Bryce D. Southwick, Jana L. Southwick and fiance Matthew Connolly, and 2 great grandchildren: Cadence Mansfield, Damian Southwick.

Per his request there will be no visitation. There will be a private memorial service at Morrison’s Funeral Home.

Charles T. “Terry” Patton

Charles T. “Terry” Patton, Sandy Lake, passed away peacefully after an extended illness at 4:05 p.m. Friday (5-9-14) in Evergreen Hills Nursing Center, Harmony, Pa.  He was 71.

Born Oct. 11, 1942, in Grove City, he was a son of DeLos A. “Carney” and Clara L. McFadden Patton.

He was a 1960 graduate of Lakeview High School.

In his early years, Terry worked at the former Patton’s Pennzoil of Sandy Lake, then 16 years at Westinghouse Electric, Sharon Transformer Division, then retired in 2002 as a corrections officer from the Mercer County State Regional Correctional facility.

He was of the Catholic faith.

Mr. Patton was an Air Force veteran serving during the Vietnam era.

Terry loved animals and was an avid Pirates and Steelers fan. He enjoyed fishing and visiting with friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Gary Patton.

He is survived by three daughters: Amy Szlucha and her husband David, Macedon, N.Y., and twins Tera Warnock and her husband Michael, Butler, and Cara Johnston and her husband Mark, Poland, Ohio; two grandchildren, Matthew Szlucha Macedon and Carley Johnston, Poland.

Naomi R. Lewis

Naomi R. Lewis, of Main Street, Shippenville, passed away on May 10, 2014 at the Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Piney Township, Clarion County. She was 97 years old.

Born on April 28, 1917, in Shippenville, she was the daughter of Harry T. and Ruth (Davis) Wingard.

In 1937 in Wellsville, NY, she married Blake E. Lewis and together they built a home, raised a family and she cherished her role as a mother and homemaker. He preceded her in death on March 4, 2012.

Mrs. Lewis was a life-long member of the Shippenville United Methodist Church, having been born the same year as the current building was erected. She was active as a communion steward, a secretary for both the Women’s Society for Christian Service and the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, the treasurer of the Sunday School class, and a member of the United Methodist Women and the Bible Learner’s Class. Mrs. Lewis also served on the Election Board for Shippenville Borough for many years.

Her family fondly remembers her love of cooking, flowers and gardening, crocheting, knitting and quilting. All of these done with love to make her home more comfortable and welcoming.

Mrs. Lewis is survived by her two sons, Edward Lewis and his wife Linda of Knox and Father David Lewis of Irvona; eight grandchildren, Dena Kania, Rhonda Hanky, Carla Wise, Duane Kahle, Benji Kahle, Chris Lewis, Joel Lewis and Kevin Lewis; 12 great-grandchildren, Cory, Shaun, Camden, Jessica, Kayla, Tuesday, Paige, Kobe, Blake, Heath, Sadie, and Haylee; and six great-great-grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by her brothers, Herbert Wingard and his wife Bertil of Indiana state, and John Wingard and his wife Judy of Shippenville; and her sisters, Eunice Slye of Venus, Fern Reese of Brookville, and Ida Edgar and her husband Jim of Missouri.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by a daughter, Constance Kahle and her husband Roger; her brothers, Mervin, Merritt, Alfred and Stewart Wingard; and her sister Iris Carrier.

Memorials may be made to either the Shippenville United Methodist Church or the Clarion-Forest Visiting Nurse Association (www.cfvna.org).

Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street in Clarion where visitation will be held from 4-8 pm on Monday, May 12. An additional visitation will be held from 10-11 am on Tuesday, May 13 at the Shippenville United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am at the church with Pastor Chris Lewis of Bethany Evangelical Congregation Church and Salem United Church of Christ, Mrs. Lewis’ grandson, and Father David Lewis, Orthodox priest at St Michael’s Church in Irvona, Mrs. Lewis’ son, officiating.

Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Shippenville.

Almeda R. Sayers Shick

Almeda R. Sayers Shick, age 93, of Erie, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2014. She was born in Fairmount City, Pa. on January 19, 1921, the daughter of the late James and Susie Sayers.

Almeda was an active member of the First Church of God, Pine Ave., where she taught Sunday School, and served on the church board. She was an active member of the W.C.G. and with the Breakfast for the Hungary program. Following her husband’s retirement, they enjoyed bowling & playing Uno together. Almeda worked as a Nurse’s Aide for 11 years at St. Vincent Hospital, and as a press operator for Fryling Mfg., and then owned Almeda’s Daycare until her retirement.
Almeda is survived by one daughter, Patricia Borges; one son, Larry Shick and wife Melody; seven grandchildren, David Borges, Jr. (Kathy), Rachelle Dunar (Dan), Jennifer Briggs (Fred), Michaeline Skarzenski (Steven), Sara Warnick, Carrie Cady (Cory), and Daniel Shick (fianceé, Nicole); 15 great grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren, many nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Joseph C. Shick, one daughter, Connie Dornhoefer, two sons, Barry Shick and infant son, Baby Joe, one grandson, Jody Dornhoefer, one great grandson, Ronald L. Rossman III, one sister, Carrie Powell and two brothers, Irven and Fred Sayers.
Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Further visitation will be held at the First Church of God, 3510 Pine Ave. on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service there at 10 a.m., conducted by Rev. Douglas Hepler. Interment will take place at 3 p.m. at Squirrel Hill Cemetery, New Bethlehem, Pa. Memorial contributions may be designated to the First Church of God, 3510 Pine Ave., Erie, PA 16504.

Lillian Alvere Bowen

Lillian Alvere Bowen, 81, of Southington, passed away Friday, May 9, 2014, at St. Joseph Health Center ICU. She was born May 9, 1933, in Clintonville, Pa., the daughter of Elmer E. and Rachel Pearl Surrena Miller Sr. In 1948, she married Robert D. Bowen, with whom she spent 51 wonderful years before his passing in 1999. Lillian leaves behind her son, Terry (Judy) Bowen, and daughter, Michelle (Roy) Savanyu-Burns, both of Champion. Also surviving her are five granddaughters, Julie Gibbs, Mary Lou Bowen, Jolene Geunther, Laura Bowen and Amanda Cole; 14 great-grandchildren; her sister, Irene Paden of Franklin, Pa.; and her beloved cat, Baby; as well as a close friend, Tom Savanyu.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Dewayne Bowen; son, Robert “Bobby” Bowen, who died at a young age; three brothers, Edward N. Miller, Elmer E. Miller Jr. and Andrew P. Miller; and three sisters, Mary R. Roemer, Violet Ushoff and Eltha A. Miller.

In accordance with her wishes, Lillian was cremated and no services were held.

Arrangements were entrusted to Carl W. Hall Funeral Service.

Eleanora M. Wiand of Stoneboro passed away peacefully of natural causes at 10:42 p.m. Mother’s Day, May 11, 2014, in Grove Manor, Grove City. She was 98.

Born Sept. 2, 1915, in Lake Township, Mrs. Wiand was a daughter of Charles S. and Kathryn E. Humphrey Steinlechner.

Mrs. Wiand was a 1932 graduate of the former Stoneboro High School where she was a member of the girls basketball team.

During World War ll, Eleanora received her nurse’s training through the American Red Cross. For more than 22 years, she was an office nurse for Dr. John T. Burke, Stoneboro, retiring in January 1981.

Eleanora was a lifetime member of St. Columbkille Church, Stoneboro, where she remained very active for most of her 98 years. She had been a member of the Altar Society and Parish Council, was a teacher of religion for more than 50 years, and served as a lector and a Eucharistic minister, visiting and giving communion to shut-ins.

Eleanora was a woman described as “wonderfully kind” and always true to her faith by serving others. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She was a volunteer for Lakeview Meals on Wheels and, in early years, was a den mother and a Girl Scout leader.

Her husband, Harry H. Wiand, whom she married Dec. 1, 1934, preceded her in death Aug. 16, 1973.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan M. White and her husband Dennis, Erie; two sons, John H. Wiand and his wife Patricia, St. Petersburg, Fla.; and Thomas L. Wiand and his wife Sherry, Stoneboro; a daughter-in-law, Celine Wiand, Raleigh, N.C.; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and infant daughter; a son, Terry E. Wiand; two sisters, Ann Patton and Margaret Patterson; and three brothers, Joseph, John and Charles Steinlechner.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Columbkille Church, Box 206, Stoneboro, PA 16153.

Calling hours are set for 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday (5-14-14) in Scott A. Black Funeral Home, 99 Franklin St., Stoneboro, with a prayer vigil at 8:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday (5-15-14) in St. Columbkille Church, 70 Franklin St., Stoneboro, with the Rev. Robert A. Manning, pastor, as celebrant.

Internment will follow at Crestview Memorial Park, Grove City.

Dorothy J Weible, 89, of Knox, passed away Monday, May 12, 2014, following a brief illness.

Born February 25, 1925, in Knox, she was the daughter of John and Margie “Beals” Hahn. Dorothy graduated from the White Memorial High School then worked as a librarian for the Knox Public Library.

She was also a home maker and devoted mother that especially enjoyed cooking Sunday dinner for her family.

She enjoyed bingo, cross-stitch and reading and was a member of the Edenburg Presbyterian Church. On March 16, 1942 Dorothy married David Weible Jr. who preceded her in death.

Dorothy is survived by two daughters Karen Kellogg of Knox, Gayle Brohl of Knox, two grand children, Jon Kellogg Jr. of Knox, Kim Schmader and her husband, Kevin, of Brockport, and four great grand children Courtney and Caitlin Kellogg of Erie, Landon and Lauren Schmader of Brockport.

She is also survived by a sister in law Mary Jane Wise and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents Dorothy was preceded in death by two brothers, Don and George Hahn; two sisters, Evelyn Hahn, Betty Benninger and a son-in-law Jon “Herk” Kellogg.

Per Dorothy’s request there will be no viewing.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the McEntire-Weaver Funeral Home, Inc., 504 E. Penn St., Knox.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Jay Montgomery officiating. Interment will follow at the Knox Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Knox Public Library, 305 North Main Street, Knox PA 16232 or the Edenburg Presbyterian Church, 405 Main Street, Knox PA 16232.

Ethel Olon, 85 of Oil City, passed away peacefully at her home at 6:40 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14, following a lengthy illness.

Born November 3, 1928 in Santa Ana, California, Ethel was the daughter of the late Clarence Joseph and Florence Mariba Last. She married Edward Andrew Olon on September 30, 1950 and he preceded her in death on November 5, 2001.

Mrs. Olon was a graduate of Oil City High School, and worked at Dehn Optical for 15 years. She was a long-time member of Oakland United Methodist Church. Mrs. Olon liked to play cards with her friends, and was “unbeatable” at Chinese Checkers. She enjoyed having a garden and planting vegetables and flowers. She loved her pet cats and dogs, and especially cherished the times she spent with her family.

Mrs. Olon is survived by her two sons, Raymond Edward Olon of Oil City, and Randall John Olon and his wife, Cynthia, of Greenville; and her two daughters, Joyce Ann Cole, and her husband, Dr. Harry Cole, of Newport News, VA, and Judith Diane Shoff and her husband, Dave, of Raleigh, NC.

She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Alexander Olon of Greenville, Dr. Sara Mae Pittore and her husband, Dan, of Edgewood, MD, Anna Leigh Stevens and her husband, Joshua, of Front Royal, VA, John Thomas Cole of Newport News, VA, Eric Mathew Shoff of Raleigh, NC, and Meridith Brooke Haralambakis and her husband, Peter, of Chicago, IL.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Olon was preceded in death by her brothers, Edward and Robert Last.

Family and friends will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin on Friday, May 16th from 6 to 9 p.m. Additional visitation will be held at the Oakland UNited Methodist Church from 3:30-4:30 PM on Saturday. Funeral services for Mrs. Olon will be held at the Oakland United Methodist Church at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, with Rev. Ed Saxman, pastor of the church, officiating.

Interment will be in Bethel Cemetery.

Betty Fae Deets

Betty Fae Deets, aged 90, died peacefully in her sleep on May 10, 2014 at her daughter’s residence in Summerdale, Alabama. Betty was born October 18, 1923, in Cooperstown, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Glenn Brink and Katherine P. (Wyant) Brink.

Betty graduated from Franklin High School in 1942 and was married to the love of her life, Richard E. Deets, in 1944. In addition to raising three children, she was an avid reader and worked as a bookkeeper in both the corporate arena and for small religious entities. Betty cared deeply about the needs of others and volunteered wherever she saw a need that she could help alleviate.

Betty had been a member of Canal Wesleyan Methodist Church and attended Hobe Sound Bible Church in Hobe Sound, Florida, where she resided much of the last forty years.
Betty is survived by her brother, James Brink and wife, Pauline, of Butler, PA; Richard Brink and wife, Jennifer, of Las Vegas, NV; her son, Stephen B. Deets and wife, Joanna, of Florence, KY; her daughter, Pamela K. (Miller) and husband, Judson, of Summerdale, AL; and her son, Barry M. Deets and wife, Robin, of Port St. Lucie, FL.

Betty is also survived by six grandchildren: Angela Deets, Heather Seta (and husband, Joseph), Allison Barker (and husband, Aaron), Travis Miller (and wife, Christie), Curtis “Kurt” Miller (and wife, Shannon), Dominic Deets and seven great-grandchildren: Joseph “Joey” Seta, Jr., Nicholas Seta, Makayla Barker, Bree Barker, Brody Miller, Zach Miller and McKenna Miller.

There will be a viewing for family and friends at Gardinier Funeral Home in Franklin, PA from 6-9PM on May 16, 2014, with the funeral service at 11:00AM on May 17 at Canal Wesleyan Methodist Church in Utica, PA with interment immediately following at Oakwood Cemetery.

Yvonne “Sug” Klapec

Yvonne “Sug” Klapec, 78, of432 Oak Road, Oil City, died unexpectedly at 10:47 pm, Monday, May 12, 2014, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca.

Born December 8, 1935 in Marble, she was a daughter of Vaughn and Emma Layton Beary, and a step daughter of Wilda Amsler Beary.

Yvonne graduated from North Clarion High School.

One of her favorite past times was painting with her friends. She as known internationally for her talent of porcelain paintings, dolls and china, and her work was featured in several national magazines.

Yvonne spent her adult life helping with family businesses.

She enjoyed spending winters in Naples, Florida.

Yvonne was a past president and member of the Belles Lettres Club, past president of the former Oil City Women’s Club, board member of the Oil City Arts Council, member of the O.R.A., International Porcelain Artists & Teachers, International Doll Makers of America, Western PA Porcelain Artists, Pennsylvania Porcelain Artists and the Lady Oilers Red Hats.

On January 29, 1955 she was married in St. Joseph Church to Joseph A. Klapec, who preceded her in death on November 15, 2009.

Surviving are three sons, Daniel and his wife Becky, Bill and his wife Elaine and Mike and his wife Christine all of Oil City; 9 grandchildren, Mandy Kightlinger and her husband Mic, Joe Klapec and his wife Sue, Kelly Culbertson and her husband Brian, Sara Klapec, Richard Klapec, Sharon Klapec, Evan Klapec, Olivia Klapec and Alec Klapec; and 6 great grandchildren, Benjamin, Parker and Sean Culbertson, Addison Kightlinger, and Kaelyn and Cooper Klapec.

Also surviving are one brother, Leroy “Butch” Beary and wife Janice; two sisters, Velma “Sis” Zock and husband James, and Bonnie Strandburg and husband Chuck; a special friend, Jack Rector; a brother-in-law, John C. Klapec; and a sister-in-law, Mary Malys.

In addition to her parents and husband, Yvonne was preceded in death by a brother, Ora Beary and wife Joanne, and a brother-in-law, Bert Klapec and wife Julia.

Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am Saturday in St. Joseph Church.

Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to a charity of one’s choice.
