Ann E. Hagan

Ann E. Hagan, 63, of New Bethlehem, PA passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at her residence surrounded by her family.

She was born July 22, 1950 in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of Mahlon and Priscilla (Lentz) Traister.

Ann lived in the area all her life. A 1968 graduate of Union High School, she was the class Valedictorian. Upon graduation, Ann attended Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh where she earned a Master’s degree in Spanish Literature. An educator, her love of the Spanish language was passed along to the generations of children she taught spanning her 25 year teaching career, most recently with the Redbank Valley School District. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Pennsylvania State Education Association. Her favorite past times included knitting, reading and working on the farm. Ann was a grand lady of wisdom and humor in speech and in action. Her family and many friends will always remember her energy and enthusiasm, joy in learning and doing new things, and embracing life with all she could.

Her memory will be cherished by her mother, Priscilla Traister, of Rimersburg, loving husband, John Hagan; son, Samuel R. Hagan, of Rimersburg; daughter, Elissa Pettinato and husband, Nathaniel, of Philadelphia; and many special friends.

Ann was preceded in death by her father.

At Ann’s request, services will be private.

Dolores Lou Shaffer, 84, of Sigel, Pa., passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at Brookville Hospital.

Born on January 10, 1929, she was the daughter of Roy M. Coon, Sr., and Lula M. Moody Coon.

On August 4, 1951, she married Robert E. Shaffer in Siegel; he preceded her in death on December 12, 1997.

Dolores was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church in Sigel, Pa. She enjoyed her family, animals, cooking, music, and taking long car rides.

She is survived by four sons, Robert Eric Shaffer (Joyce) of Robinson Twp., Pa.; Steven D. Shaffer of Sigel, Pa.; Michael V. Shaffer of Brookville, Pa.; and Mark A. Shaffer (Rosemary) of Sigel, Pa.

Also surviving are eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Olive Rynd, two infant sisters, and two brothers, Kenneth R. Coon and Roy Coon Jr.

Visitation Hours are on Friday, July 26, 2013, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at McKinney Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Brookville, PA 15825.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at McKinney Funeral Home with The Rev. Boyd Edmondson.

Interment will be at Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Eldred Twp., Jefferson Co., Pa.

John E. Beegle

John E. Beegle, 68, of East Butler, formerly of Bruin, passed away at 9:15 pm. Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.

John was born at home in Everett on May 21, 1945. He was the son of Charles and Phyllis Weicht Beegle.

He attended Everett High School and had been employed by Witco Chemical Co. in Petrolia and then worked for Superior Carriers. John started Superior Carriers’ Parker Terminal and had been terminal manager. He later worked for William Altman Trucking as a dispatcher. John enjoyed old Chevy trucks, black labs, old time country music, and fishing at Moraine State Park.

John is survived by his wife, Sandra L. Stewart Beegle, whom he met while serving in the U.S. Coast Guard at Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. The couple married in Braintree, Mass. on May 14, 1966.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Charles F. Beegle of Irwin; a daughter, Darlene A. Roy and her husband, Jason, of East Butler; three grandchildren C.J. Beegle of Irwin, Holly D. Roy and Carter A. Roy, both of East Butler; two sisters, Judith Clark and her husband, Clinton, of Bedford, and Cherie Dicken of Everett, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Charlene Beegle.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora, from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. Saturday. The funeral service will be private.

Burial will be in Bear Creek Cemetery, Petrolia.

Rose Johnson

Rose Johnson, 74, of 17 North Oak Street, Kane, died early Thursday morning, July 25, 2013 at the Kane Community Hospital.

Born August 20, 1938 in Marienville, she was the daughter of Charles R. and Effie M. Barr Sharrow. On August 29, 1958 in Crown, she married Virgil A. Johnson, who survives.

A homemaker, Rose did housekeeping for folks in the area. She was a lifetime member of the McKean County Fire Police and belonged to the Kane Fire Dept. Auxiliary. She enjoyed puzzles and embroidery.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a son Robert Johnson of Kane; two daughters, Robin Yasurek and Rebecca Knapp, both of Kane; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and several step-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death, along with her parents, by several brothers and sisters.

Friends may call at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc. in Kane on Saturday from noon until 1:30, at which time a service will be held there with the rev. David Pflieger, chaplain of the Lutheran Home at Kane, officiating. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery following cremation.

Edward Bruce McCoy

Edward Bruce McCoy, 59 of Polk Center died Wednesday evening July 24, 2013 at Polk Center.

He was born May 3, 1954, Aliquippa, PA.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents Arch C. McCoy and Janet V. (Bruce) McCoy of Beaver, PA; and is survived by his sisters Iva Jane McCoy of Lansing, MI; and Joyce Lloyd of The Dalles, OR; and several nieces, nephews, and many cousins.

Ed had a ready smile and cheerful disposition, loved socializing, and had many friends among staff and peers, who were greeted by Ed as “Buddy” and “Sweetheart”, his favorite names for them.

He enjoyed activities at The Polk Center such as swimming, the annual dinner dance, Bingo, working at the car wash, and silverware dept., also community trips for eating out, movies, concerts, picnics, train rides, and bowling.

Ed valued his spiritual life, and sang his favorite hymns with gusto and great joy, especially “Jesus Loves Me”, and attended chapel services every week.

Visitation will be held form 10-11 a.m. Saturday at Huff Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc. 312 West Park St. Franklin.

Funeral services will follow at 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home with The Polk Center Chaplaincy, officiating.

Private interment will be made in Woodlawn Cemetery, Aliquippa, PA.

George E. Harvey, Sr.

George E. Harvey, Sr., 91, of Palatka became absent from the body and present with the Lord Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at his residence following an extended illness.

George was born in Greenville, PA and had been a resident of Palatka for the past 18 years, coming from Greenville. He served as an Officer in the Salvation Army in Franklin, PA in the 1940s. In the late 1940s and 1950s he served as a Pastor in the United Brethren Church in Sharon, Geneva, Linesville and New Castle, PA. He later joined the Pilgrim Holiness Church and was promoted to Assistant Superintendent of the Pittsburgh, PA Conference. He served as an evangelist and traveled through-out Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, Indiana and Michigan, preaching the Gospel to thousands. His main goal in life was to see souls saved, including those of his own family. He enjoyed going to flea markets and yard sales, and taking care of his property on his tractor. He was a member of the First Church of God in Palatka and had also attended the Church of the Nazarene in San Mateo. The family wishes to express their appreciation for the loving kindness George received from Hospice of the Nature Coast.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Stella Irene Cauvel Harvey; eleven brothers and sisters; a grandson, Paul Edward Harvey; and a daughter-in-law, Constance Harvey and Kathleen Harvey.

Surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law, George E. “Eddie” Harvey, Jr., and Thomas H. and Lucille Harvey, all of Palatka, Ron and Ann Harvey of Pomona Park, and William and Maurene Harvey of Huntington, VT; 17 grandchildren, including his caregiver, Brian Harvey of Palatka; 20 great grandchildren; 13 great great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert S. Emery

Robert S. Emery, 87, of 7 Vo-Tech Dr. Oil City, PA, died at 4:00 P.M. Thursday July 25, 2013, after a brief illness.

Born January 1, 1926, in Oil City, PA., he was the son of the late William E. Emery & Hazel Wilson Emery.

Robert was a graduate of Oil City High School.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving his country during World War II.

He was married on June 5, 1948, to Patricia “Patsy” Moss and she preceded him in death on Oct. 14, 2006.

Mr. Emery had worked for Sears & Roebuck and retired from Pennzoil, where he had worked for over 43 years.

He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church. Robert enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, and NASCAR. He also enjoyed traveling and walking. He greatly enjoyed the time spent camping with his wife in Knox, where they camped for over 35 years.

He is survived by two sons, James R. Emery & his wife Rita of Oil City, PA, William R. “Moose” Emery & his wife Lisa of Oil City, PA.

He is also survived by five grandchildren, Jamie Fairbanks & her husband Brian of Leland, NC, Robert L. Emery of Camp Hill, PA, Tiffany M. Dempsey of Oil City, PA, James R. Emery Jr. of Rouseville, PA, Todd J. Emery & his wife Lindsey of Cleveland, OH; four great grandchildren, Robert Fairbanks, Logan Emery, Jake Anthony and Milo McCullough; and a special cousin, Bob McSparren & his wife Karen of Oil City, PA.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert S. Emery, Jr., a granddaughter Stacey Ann Emery, and his brother Russell Emery.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and from 6-8 P.M. on Saturday in the Reinsel Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Sunday in the Reinsel Funeral Home with Rev. Bruce Davis, Pastor of Calvary United Methodist Church, presiding.

Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.

Marcia Alison “Missy” Reedy

Marcia Alison “Missy” Reedy, of Limestone Road, Fairmount City, left this world unexpectedly on July 26, 2013. She was 45 years old.

Born in Falmouth, Massachusetts on February 10, 1968, she was the daughter of Cecil and Veronica Dyess, who survive. Missy was a homemaker who loved to spend time with her family and friends and, wanted to see people happy no matter what. She liked reading, playing games, and traveling.

Missy was married to Dennis Reedy who survives. She is survived by her sons, Michael Dyess of Rhode Island, Ronald Devers, Jr. of Grove City, and Travis Reedy of Fairmount City; her daughters, Holly Devers and her husband Jeremy Wynkoop of Fairmount City, Rachel Devers of Clarion, Bobbi Sue Reedy of Fairmount City, and Michelle Phillippi and her husband Scott of Lakeland, Florida. Missy is also survived by her five grandchildren, Aydan, Ace, Zoe, Emily, and Hunter; and her three sisters. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Mary Lou Reedy.

Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home & Crematory, 330 Wood Street in Clarion where visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 am on Monday, July 29. Funeral services will follow immediately at 11:00 am in the funeral home.

Cummins, Rhetta obit picRhetta A. Cummins, 62, of 132 Time Machine Lane, Franklin, PA. died at 4:45 P.M. Thursday July 25, 2013 at the home of her son in Rocky Grove after an extended illness.

Born July 27, 1950, she was the daughter of Rex & Larue Bennett Smith.

Rhetta was a graduate of Franklin High School and received her nursing degree from Clarion University.

She had worked for the Augusta Medical Center, Beverly Healthcare, and for the Franklin and Clarion Hospitals.

On Oct. 7, 1989, she was married in the Grace United Methodist Church in Oil City to Joseph G. Cummins and he preceded her in death on May 30, 2010.

Rhetta was a member of the PNA Club of Oil City and the Franklin Elks, Eagles and Moose. She enjoyed being with her family, especially with the grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking and the companionship of her dog COCO.

She is survived by two sons, Greg Long & his wife Tina of Rocky Grove, Shayne Long & his wife Heather of Cooperstown; four grandchildren Donald, Cody, Garrett, and Isaiah; three step children, Mark & Cheryl Cummins of Dillsburg, Amy & Dave Garbacz of Mars, Lori & Terry Rhinehart of York.

She is also survived by a brother Lyle Smith of Carlton, and by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother Reggy Smith.

A Graveside Funeral Service will be held on Monday July 29, 2013. at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel in St. Catherine’s Cemetery (12231 State Highway 8) in Titusville, PA.

Rev. Mark Rusnak, Ascera Care Chaplain will preside.

Ervin Lawrence Huffman, 75, of Yount Rd. Summerville, Pa., passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2013, at home.

Born on April 29, 1938, at Mudlic, Pa., he was the son of Ervin Reed Huffman and Christina M. Smith Huffman.

On August 10, 1960, in Summerville, Pa., Ervin married Doris Elizabeth Beck, who survives.

He worked for Hanley Brick Co. in Summerville and later as a mechanic for Owens-Illinois in Brookville, Pa.

He enjoyed woodworking, painting, and making stained glass. He especially loved his family.

In addition to his wife, Ervin is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Huffman (Rose) of Corsica, Pa., and Robbie Huffman (Michelle) of Connoquensing, Pa.; and two brothers, John Huffman of Meadville, Pa. and Bob Huffman of Brookville, Pa.

He is also survived by three grandchildren, Seth Robert Huffman (Beth), Justin Huffman, and Jacob Huffman, and one great-grandchild, Anna Beth Huffman.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters,Shirley Collins and Mildred Holben.

Visitation Hours are on Monday, July 29, 2013,at 1 PM to 4 PM at McKinney Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Brookville, PA 15825.

Funeral services are at 4:00 PM on Monday, July 29, 2013, at McKinney Funeral Home with The Rev. James Dietrich officiating.

Interment will be at Carrier Cemetery in Clover Twp., Jefferson Co., Pa.

Phyllis Jane Shaffer

Phyllis Jane Shaffer, 79, of Rockland Township Road ,Rockland died at 3:15 AM ,July 30, 2013 at UPMC-Northwest Seneca.

Born March 8, 1934 in Meadville, PA, Phyllis was the daughter of the late Hugh and Mable Rebecca (Pratt) Haylett.

She was married for 25 years to James W. Ward, who preceded her in death. On February 9, 1982 she was married to Charles O. Shaffer, who preceded her in death on April 29, 2013, they were married for 32 years.

Mrs. Shaffer was a homemaker who enjoyed crocheting, traveling, gardening, watching the wild life out her front window, and gambling.

Phyllis is survived by her son, James ‘Dan’ Ward and his wife, Pam, of Rockland; her daughters, Rebecca Lynn Anderson and her husband, David, of Mechanicsburg, and Tamra Dunkle and her husband, Scott, of Seneca; her grandchildren, Joshua Ward and his wife, Kerensa, of Guam, Mindy Redding and her husband, Mike, of Meadville, Jarrod Ward of Rockland, Amanda Hoffner of Mechanicsburg, James Anderson of Mechanicburg, and Stephanie Keith and her husband Brandon of Seneca; her great-grandchildren, Tyler, Shay and Megan Redding, Ethan Ward, and Loralei and Gavin Keith.

She is additionally survived by three step-children, five step-grandchildren, and one step-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; brothers, Phillip ‘Alan’, Edward, and David Haylett; and her sister, Nancy Rex.

Friends will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Wednesday, July 31st, 2013, from 3:00PM – 7:00PM. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 1st, 2013 at Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., with Rev. Randy Kightlinger, VNA Chaplin, officiating.

Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery.

William C. “Bill” Painter

William C. “Bill” Painter, age 72, of New Bethlehem, died Monday evening, July 29, 2013 at the Kittanning Care Center following an illness.

Born February 7, 1941 in Wildcat (Rimersburg area) he was the son of the late Ruth Doverspike Painter.

Bill graduated from Redbank Valley High School in the Class of 1959.

He worked at Rugh’s Market as a student and continued working after graduation until being drafted into the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict.

Following his honorable discharge in 1965, Bill took a job with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. He retired from PENNDOT as a heavy equipment operator in 2003.

He married the former Jacqueline Porter on June 15, 1968. She survives.

Bill enjoyed mowing, gardening and working outdoors, he loved his truck, but his most enjoyment came from the time he spent with his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.

He was a big Conway Twitty fan but also enjoyed listening to Alan Jackson and Toby Keith.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie and two children: James Painter of New Bethlehem and Schontell McKinney and her husband, Ray, of New Bethlehem.

Bill is also survived by his grandchildren, Bethany and Jason McKinney of New Bethlehem; two sisters: Charlene Bish and her husband, James, of New Bethlehem and Joy Yeany and her husband, Bo, of Bechtelville and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Jason Painter in 1972.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Friday, August 2, 2013 at the Rupert Funeral Home and Cremation Service Chapel, 233 Penn Street, New Bethlehem.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am Saturday, August 3, 2013 in the funeral home chapel with the Reverend Jimmy Swogger officiating over the service.

Military honors will be accorded immediately before the funeral service on Saturday by the Walter W. Craig American Legion Post # 354 of New Bethlehem.

Interment will follow at the St. Charles Catholic Cemetery in New Bethlehem.

Bruce Ray Rosendahl

Bruce Ray Rosendahl, 66, a resident of Annapolis for 9 years, died on July 26, 2013 from multiple illnesses he battled for over a decade. He was previously a resident of Miami, Florida; Durham, North Carolina; LaJolla, California; and Honolulu, Hawaii.

He was born December 28, 1946 in Jamestown, New York to the late Raymond and Marjorie Rosendahl and grew up on Lake Chautauqua learning to boat, fish and dive. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Susan Ellen Rosendahl, formerly Susan Andrews of New Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; children Taña René Rosendahl of Jamestown, New York and Andrew Ray Rosendahl of New York City; grandson Jameson Truitt Trusler of Jamestown, New York; sister Becky Ann Isaacson of Longmeadow, Massachusetts; nephews Paul Barbee, III and Dan Isaacson; and mother-in-law Barbara Andrews of New Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

He earned a bachelor of science degree in geology and a master of science degree in geophysics from the University of Hawaii in 1970 and 1971. He earned a doctoral degree in Earth sciences in 1976 at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California at San Diego. His Ph.D. dissertation involved the use of seismic methodology to image a zone beneath the East Pacific Rise.

Dr. Rosendahl joined the faculty at Duke University in 1976 and during his tenure of 13 years launched Project PROBE in which he and a team of scientists conducted seismic surveys of the African Great Lakes of Tanganyika, Malawi, Victoria and Turkana. The team’s work on the research vessel Nyanja led to new understandings about continental rift zones.

Dr. Rosendahl was the dean of the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, University of Miami in 1989 – 1995 and professor in Marine Geology and Geophysics (MGG) until he retired Professor Emeritus in 2004. He was the first recipient of the Lewis G. Weeks Chair in Geology. At his request, the proceeds of the Weeks endowment were used to guarantee salaries for young faculty within MGG.

Dr. Rosendahl is the author and coauthor of several books, two seismic atlases, and more than 65 papers in scientific journals. His volume African Rifting is a classic in the field. Editorial roles have included membership on the board of contributors for the Miami Herald newspaper, technical editor of Sea Frontiers magazine and adviser to Time-Life Books, PBS’s NOVA series and National Geographic magazine. His professional service has included membership on the Joint Oceanographic Institution’s board of governors, executive committee of JOIDES, Southern Association of Marine Laboratories, Council on Ocean Affairs, University Corporation for Atmospheric Research, Interunion Commission on Lithosphere, Marine Geology Committee of the American Association for Petroleum Geologists and International Litho-sphere Program. He was a trustee for the Miami Museum of Science and served on the board of directors for the Miami Marine Council and the Maritime and Science Technology Academy.

Russell CannRussell I. Cann, 87, of Pinoak Circle, Oil City, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at the Clarion-Forest VNA Serenity House in Shippenville, following an extended illness.

Born September 14, 1925, in Cranberry, he was the son of Byron I. and Mary I. G. Cann.

He attended school in the Oil City area.

He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps during WWII, with tours of duty in Germany, Belgium and France, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Russell was employed by Continental Can Company, where he retired after more than 30 years of service.

Mr. Cann was of the protestant faith and a long time member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, in Oil City.

Russ was a member of American Legion Post 32 and was a member of Cranberry Mall A.M. Walkers.
Surviving are two sisters, Virginia M. Cann of Oil City, Carol A. Anchors and husband Wayne of Cambridge Springs. He is also survived by one brother George R. Cann of Seneca.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Edgar A. Cann, Robert E. Cann, Charles F. Cann and John B. Cann; and six sisters, Marion A. Smith, Florence I. ‘Jean’ Sosnowski, Ardelle L. Mietus, Isabelle L. Miller, Ruth A. Deshner, and Patricia L. Ziegler.

Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Friday.

Services will be held at 11 am Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Bruce Davis, pastor of the Calvary United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Grove Hill Cemetery, Oil City.

Sandra L. Rhoads, 70, of Golden Living Center Oil City, passed away July 31, 2013 at UPMC Passavant.<!–more–>

Born May 4, 1943 in Clarion PA she was the daughter of the late Charley A. Simpson and Erma Whitling Simpson. Sandra received her education from Keystone High School in Knox. Sandra was a past member of Moose Lodge of Chicora. She had worked at the Wolfs Den in Knox and also at the Emlenton Plaza as a janitor. Sandra loved spending time with her grandchildren. She also loved spending time with her family and friends sharing laughter and conversation.

Survived by her 3 sons: Tony Rhoads and his wife Christie of Texas, Tracy Rhoads and his wife Mindy of Emlenton and Terry Rhoads of Knox. Her grandchildren: Emma Rhoads of Texas, Kayla Shay of Florida, Brandon Heller of Harrisville, Ashley Shaw and her husband Dustin of Knox and Tyler Rhoads of Knox. One great grand daughter Graclin Shaw. Also survived by her siblings Bob Simpson and his wife Judy of North Carolina, Walter Simpson of Emlenton, Karen_Rutter_ of Ohio, Rodger Simpson of South Carolina. Proceeded in death by her parents.

Louave Hopper, 88, of Templeton, PA, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born on June 29, 1925 in Widnoon, PA, the daughter of James O. and Gladys (Hetrick) Duncan.

Louave attended Hawkville Elementary School and graduated from Kittanning High School in 1945. She married Alvin L. Hopper in Widnoon on October 15, 1946 and worked for several years as a production worker at the Sylvania plant in Brookville. Faith was an important facet of Louave’s life and she was a member of Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church. She also served as a lay minister for the Wesleyan Methodist Conference. Louave will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, and her family and friends will never forget her kind and caring spirit.

Her memory will be cherished by her sons, Stanley R. Hopper and wife, Tana, of Templeton, and Jerry Lee Hopper and wife, Judy, of Boardman, OH; daughters, Gloria N. Helsley and husband, Denny, of Widnoon, J. DeLee Craig and husband, Randall, of North Huntingdon, Shirley J. Peters and husband, Spencer, of Cooperstown, and Marilyn Kay Hannold and husband, Randy, of Cooperstown; 20 grandchildren and their spouses; 26 great-grandchildren and their spouses; nine great-great-grandchildren; brother, Gary W. “Bill” Duncan and wife, Cheryl, of Worthington; sisters, June Yarnell and husband, Burt, of Franklin, PA, and Willovene “Willie” Steiner and husband, James, of Lebanon, OH; sister-in-law, Maxine Duncan, of Kellersburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Louave was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 60 years, Alvin L. Hopper who died December 10, 2006; brother, Fred Duncan; son-in-law, Edward Hornberger, and great grandson-in-law, Josh Walker.

Relatives and friends will be received from 6-8 PM on Thursday, August 1, 2013, and from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Friday, August 2, 2013 at the Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 758 Main Street, Rimersburg, PA.

Additional visitation will be held from 12 PM until the time of funeral services at 1 PM on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at the Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church, State Route 861, Rimersburg, with the Rev. Mark Deeter and Rev. Richard Price co-officiating.

Burial will follow at Kellersburg Methodist Cemetery, Templeton, PA.

Memorial contributions may be made in Louave’s honor to Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church, State Route 861, Rimersburg, PA 16248.

Sedwick photoLinda J. (Nina) Sedwick, 66, of Tionesta, died Tuesday morning, July 30, 2013 at UPMC Northwest in Seneca.

Born March 30, 1947 in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Skrypzchak and the former Irene A. Podsiadly, with whom she made her home.

She attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. She was a published artist and worked for the Pittsburgh Press in advertising for many years. She was a Past President of the Pittsburgh Press Union.

Linda loved animals, and especially her Old English sheep dogs, Bucky and Farley.

In addition to her mother, Linda is survived by a brother, John Sedwick and his wife, Lisa of Walla Walla, Washington. She is also survived by a niece and nephew, Alleah and Bridger Sedwick, both of Washington State.

All funeral services are private. The family suggests memorials may be made to the Humane Society of your own choice.

Charlotte DaviesCharlotte Parsons Davies of 151 E. Bissell Avenue, Oil City, died at 6:50 a.m. on Thursday, August, 1, 2013 at UPMC Northwest in Seneca.

Born February 2, 1920, in Oil City, she was a daughter of the late Silas Richard and Charlotte Schwietering Parsons.

Mrs Davies was a 1937 graduate of Oil City High School.

She started her business career at 17 years of age in the office of Duffee Motor Express in Oil City. She then joined Oil City’s electric utility, Keystone Public Service.

During World War II she worked for the Defense Plant Corporation at the Pittsburgh Steel Foundry, in Glassport, PA; Talon, Inc. Steel Tube Division in Oil City; the American Rolling Mill Company, Los Angeles, California and an Exterminating Business in Jacksonville, Florida.

After returning to Oil City she worked for Quaker State Oil Refining Corporation for 27½ years. She retired on February 2, 1985.

Mrs. Davies was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Oil City where she sang in the choir for 60 years.

She was a member of the YWCA, the Xi Rho Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, an International sorority, and the Gallivanter’s Club.

Mrs Davies was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and received the Grand Cross of Color for service on the Board of Rainbow for Girls.

She was married September 2, 1942 to W. Wayne Davies in the Trinity United Methodist Church by the Reverend Thomas. Mr. Davies preceded her in death on February 12, 1992.

Surviving are two daughters, Pamela Jean Olmes of Reston, Virginia and Barbara Ann Carr and husband David of Bumpass, Virginia; three grandsons, Daniel Olmes and wife Elisa of Reston, Michael Carr and wife Tara of Fairfax and Brian Carr and wife Katie of Oakton, Virginia; and her great grandchildren, Berkeley Rose and Chase Landon Olmes, Emma Grace, Jack Michael and Abby Morgan Carr.

Also surviving is a sister-in-law Marian Parsons of Walla Walla, Washington. She is blessed to be survived by many caregivers who provided round the clock loving care for her for many years and a special friend Carol Wilson.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Angove and her son Gerald Angove, a brother Richard Parsons and a sister, Leonore Driscoll.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Saturday at the Morrison Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 pm Sunday at the Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bruce Davis and the Rev. Don Rudge, officiating.

Interment will follow at the Heckathorn Church Cemetery.

The family welcomes you back to Trinity United Methodist Church following the committal service for a memorial luncheon.

The family suggests memorials may be made to the VNA Foundation of Venango County, Trinity United Methodist Church or a charity of one’s choice.
